Interesting you'd ask; I've been wondering the same thing myself. The PS3 Manual has nothing on this. I set mine to full screen, and it looks noticeably better than my regular DvD player.
I'd also like to add, I didn't find anything in the manual about half of the display/sound options in the PS3 menu. :| Perhaps Sony was planning on releasing a manual for it's systems features at a later time. :evil:JbulMost of the features you're talking about were not system features until after a firmware upgrade. How do you expect Sony to supply documentation with the system for features that haven't even been implemented yet?
[QUOTE="donnygorgas"]Set it to whatever way you prefer.HJrAS_PT
i don't know what i prefer 'cos i have no idea of the differences between each options...
Why not try each setting as they are visibly different and then you can make a decision.

hahaa full. that would probably be the worse one to use. stretches out to fill the screen.
How come no one has noticed the "Online Manual" link in the Network section of the XMB? They update it with firmware updates. The best one to use if you have your TV set to 1080i/p is Double Scale, if you prefer 720p then use Normal.
I wouldn't use Full Screen unless you need to stretch the image for some reason, like if the picture appears with black bars all the way around. I use Full Screen for PS2 upscaling, because otherwise it appears in a box in the centre of the screen.

Don't blindly defend Sony, it makes you sound retarded. I bought a brand new PS3, without playing any games or getting online, and all those features were available, all without decumentation. It turns out an online manual was found after all, but that's besides the point. You can be brand-loyal, but don't be a fanboy. ;)

HAHAHAH!! Ludacris! Damn, that's tight yo! :/
Turns out I use double for my DvD's, full screen for my games.
Don't post like a 6 year old, you have a rap video playing at the end of your sig. Remember? ;)

1st off, I never said that there wasn't an online manual. Quite to the contrary, I assumed there was seeing as the entire interface is fluid due to the fact that firmware updates are possible. 2nd, I wasn't really trying to defend Sony or say that your system wouldn't be updated out of the box, simply that I doubt they go to the expense to update the printed documentation packaged with each system with every iteration of firmware that is released. That would not make good economic sense. My response was more directed towards the fact that you immediately begin whining about the lack of documentation without taking the 2 seconds it would take to Google, PS3 Manual. Had you taken the time it took you to log onto Gamespot and post this message and instead taken the initiative to do the search on your own, you'd have seen that the FIRST link of said search would have taken you directly to the online manual linked above. It just seems that most of the people in this forum would rather cry about how something doesn't work than find out what the problem is and fix it.[QUOTE="Jbul"]Most of the features you're talking about were not system features until after a firmware upgrade. Mm, not quite. I never accused you of saying there wasn't an online manual. I merely stated the fact that it was an inconvenience to an average consumer to not have those features explained. Plain and simple. Not everyone has the desire to log online to figure out how their $600 investment works, when the company who puts it out could easily have put 3 pages in a manual to do so. I didn't have to look up anything on the Internet regarding my360.A simple concept, isn't it? And you are indeed blindly defending Sony. Still. I am an American consumer, andthese are not outlandish requests. When you get out of grade-school, perhaps you should take a business class, son.
And for SodaBoy, your Internet HAZXOR SLANZ!! ABUT BENG OWNZED!!! shows how pathetically childish you are. End of story.

Not quite Sally. Calling people retarded is the real gauge at how childish a person can be. You fail.
Funny you should mention taking a business class when you are obviously the one that needs the class. Sony is already losing money on the system, if they were to reprint the included manual every time there was an update, it would be even more costly. Not to mention the fact there is a good chance that your system was produced and boxed before the update that added upscaling as a feature was even released. Its not like if an update comes out tomorrow and I bought a system next week, they could even have a separate insert in the box detailing the update. I would venture to guess that it would take several months for the stock to completely deplete with old printed documentation. Case in point, 60GB systems have been out of production for several months now, but they are still available in stores. Before you call someone out, you may want to have something to back it up with. If you don't know what you're talking about, keep your mouth shut. Btw, I have an MBA and have been working in the business world for more than 10 years. Stop perpetuating the lazy, sense-of-entitlement American stereotype and take a little initiative next time before you start complaining.Mm, not quite.
