I start off on easy (especially shooter games, because I'm not very good at shooters), than I progress up to hard. I usually start racing games on medium-hard.

I normally go for medium, unless the game gets tedious, then I knock it down a notch so I breeze through it quicker.

1st play is on hard, not hardest, then second play is on superduperhorrificallyimpossible or whatever the game calls it.

It depends ,if the game has any trophies or other unlockables for completing it on hard , that's the difficult I'll be playing , otherwise , I always play on medium.

[QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"]Minus Ninja Gaiden & Dragon Age I generally choose Hard since few games provide any real challenge these days. Back in my day there were no checkpoints every 3 minutes or regenerating health and I had to walk through a foot of snow to get anywhere.OriginalJonty

Snow?! I would have been happy with snow! In my day, we had to travel to Greece and climb Mount Olympus just to get a health pack!

Haha, I was just thinking how 10-15 years ago I was lucky to beat 75% of the games I played, usually because I'd get stuck at a challenging bossfight or platform jump and then lose interest after 20 tries. The only game I've played that was THAT hard on a current console is Ninja Gaiden II.

If it's a story-oriented game or a game that requires a lot of exploration, I start at Easy or Normal. I get very pissed off when I'm just trying to find the next checkpoint, and I die a lot. I love playing games on Hard afterwards and knowing what I'm supposed to do.

I always play Oblivion on the easiest 1/3rd setting, just because it's a lot more fun to mess around and create trouble than to actually play a "challenge."

I always play on Medium because that's intended difficulty for the game but there's certain occasions I'll play on Hard. For example, if I beat a previous game in the series on Hard then I'll probably play the sequel on Hard.

I only play ARPG/RPG games with hardcore setting. That is if you die you lose all loot and then you have to start all over again from scratch eg: D2/S2/Demon's souls etc.. Best adrenilin rush ever!
