Sony hit an all time low with me. My 1st ps3 got messed up i had it traded in with my replacement plan and got a new ps3.
I tried renting a movie from the psn store 1 day and it says i needed to deactivate my other ps3 i traded in....

i tried to go online to deactivate it and only psp's can be deactivated online. No problem, i call technical support and they said to prove that i am who i say i am i need to fax a copy of the receipt to deactivate it. I dont own a fax, so in total i spent 3 dollars on the rental and i need to spend 5 to get it faxed from a staples? No way, i said no problem can you give me back the money for a rental i couldnt use they said no refunds kthxbye. i offered the phone and receipt number to call to verify it and they said no, thats not how we do things. Sony customer support is the worst service experience i ever had. To the point where im considering trading it in for an xbox which i think isnt that great compared to sony. I hope at least Microsoft doesnt treat their customers like trash. This along with sony not helping with the new psp problems and the random purchases that happened to me and friends on the psn store without our authorization, is mad.
Sony is done for.

do you not keep the hard drive like when you send off the 360, because if you kept the hard drive, you can delete your account. If you sent off the hard drive which seems a bit of a ridiculous policy, you should take it up with sony, because someone could get your credit card information etc. If you do still have the hard drive and using your old account, i don't see how this could happen. The ps3 won't be registered to you only your psn / ps3 account would be.

i see you concern, but saddened by your conclusion. This really is not that big of a deal bro.... really, it's not :)

I'm sorry but my rationale is just very different from yours. some pricks at tech support and strict policies would not force me to even CONSIDER switching consoles. I can't connect my enjoyment of the PS3 and sony's policies together. But this is America afterall, the country which cries over spilt milk to a point where they switch to soy, j/k.

Look at the 360 community as an example: a lot of them had their 360s replaced, but they still came back for more, some would call it blind support, but all it means is that they like to play on their 360 and could give a rats-*** about MS.

Man. You should have really deleted your accounts and everything before trading in your ps3. Better luck next time i guess. It's not Sonys fault.

I have said this many times. Sony customer support has always been a joke to me. PS2's had DRE, and Sony wouldn't even acknowledge that. My mom had a faulty Sony TV back in the day, and they did everything they could to make it look like her fault. She had it for a week...

Now with them refusing to admit a problem or fix for the PSP-3000 it's just the icing on the cake to had bad Sony is as a company.

Plus this gen with MS and the RROD, I don't even listen to the "reliability" discussion anymore, I just buy a Best Buy Warranty with every console I own.

The proof would have been you sending it back...I highly doubt Sony just mailed out a free controller to your house.

It's 5 bucks to avoid future problems!! Plus, you can always try looking if one of your friends have a fax machine... you don't necesarily have to waste those $5 and become poor.

I guess I can believe it...Dell sent me an extra monitor once, never made me to send back the old one. I had it fixed for 20$ so now I have an extra. Lucky breaks.

For his issue yea, but if you bought a PSP-3000 would you like people saying, "it's only 200$" ... And also, it's 2008, how many of your friends have fax machines? :)

I also find it funny that he had to deactivate a broken PS3. Irony.

i did delete everything on the old ps3 but that isnt enough you need to go to account management and deactivate the ability to download stuff on your old ps3 which no one knows or thinks about im giving a heads up to people out there because i know im not the only one who bought a replacement plan and it may happen to you.

Sorry, I skipped your 1st post... what's with the new PSP?? I've never heard problems about it.

Please tell me because I was actually thinking on getting one and getting rid of my fat one.

I am on my second ps3 myself but I have yet to have a problem on it that didn't have to do with the games since the disc reader cracked on my first one.

Yeah Customer Service IS NOT Sony's strong suit. They treat their customers the same way they treat Software Developers - They take the "I'm the boss and you have to do what we say and like it" attitude. Every experience I've had with their CS has been absolutely horrible - but like I said it's what I've come to expect from Sony - because if one thing can be said for sure...

They treat everyone equally - equally like crap that is.

They do make some of the best products in the world - I just wish they didn't feel that gives them the right to be the bully on the block. And they are definitely worse than any other manufacturer when it comes to Customer Service.

Ok - enough Sony bashing because they do make great products like I said - just wish they had the CS to match.

Sorry to hear your horror story - that's not a reason to abandon ship though IMO.

LOL - yeah but it's poor marketing when you're the worst at something (Customer Service) - even if your the best at something at the same time (Hardware). It's just dissappointing because their competition outshines them everytime in this specific area.

Speaking of the "Real Business World" - Most retailers and large companies (including manufacturers) know that if you have poor Customer Service you will eventually be doomed to fail. Without customers Sony would be as rich as the homeless guy that lives down the street. Take care of your customers and they will take care of you - that's the model for most businesses in the "Real Business World". ;)

I honestly don't think Sony is like that .. I think the people you talk to are like that .. everyone is different and handles things in a different manner .. some people get the pricks .. some people get the nice people that actually want to help you out ..

Good and Valid points - it does come down to the individual Customer Service Agent you speak with. Hopefully some of the idiots will get replaced with more professionals who know how to be courteous.

YOU ARE most definitely RIGHT though - it's the individual reps.

They just hand out those jobs though .. to anyone who is willing to sit behind the phone .. it does give the company an all around bad name sometimes ..

I've had my run ins with crappy reps, and good reps within the same company .. so I usually just hang up and call back until I get someone who knows what the problem is and is able to actually help me ..

Thanks man .. :)
