Before you say anything, believe me I know..there is probably a topic similar to this from way back when. But with that said, I have never played oblivion mainly because I was never into the whole swords and magic thing. Fallout 3 on one hand is Epic, ive played through it several times..even without the dlcs yet and it hasnt gotten dull one bit. I still enjoy it as much as I did when I first played it. Ive heard comparisons made between the two at least a thousand times so, even though im not into the whole swords and magic thing..do you think I should give Oblivion a try? Also which do you prefer for those that have played both, because if you havent played both then you cant really compare the two..so please spare me the hater persona.

What I've found is that most people who dislike Oblivion love Fallout 3. I've seen this on so many forums and it even works the other way around. I for one, love Oblivion and hate Fallout 3. I love the swords and magic thing. I like that there is a whole world full of life in there unlike Fallout 3. Fallout 3 got boring way too fast and I really could not play it anymore.

My cousin is like the only person I know who loves both games equally. :P

I love both games really, but if I had to choose I'd easily chose Fallout 3. I get a stiffy from start to finish while playing that game (JK of course...or am I? ) Oblivion got kinda boring to me probably cause I either A. Kept getting lost, B. Didn't know what de fook to do, C. Ran out of stuff to steal. That doesn't make it a bad game to come back to though :D Still a great game, just imo FO3 is better.

i prefered oblivion the game looked a lot better then fallout 3 there was much more variety in the characters and landscape and buildings not just the same run down ruined city where ever you looked and also i found that the VATS system got really old and tiring. just over all i found oblivion to be better the only thing that fallout did better is that many quest seemed much more epic and crazy there are a few of those in oblivion as well just not as much

I got tired of the Middle-Earth esque types of role-playing games that I'd been playing so Fallout 3 was a welcome change. I got bored with it rather quickly like DevilDude3232, the world did seem too barren. And yes I know its a post-apoc game but I got a little tired of only running into a couple creatures and only really seeing humans in the towns.

personally, oblivion. Although a lot of it is just dungeon hunting it's pretty fun. There's ALOT more to do in oblivion(quest-wise) and it just makes you i don't know its hard to explain. IT CAPTIVATES YOU WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Seriously though, you should try oblivion even if you aren't into dungeons and dragons.

I liked Oblivion as well from the scant time I played it (rental from Blockbuster). I can see how FO3 might tend to get boring for some people.

Oblivion is superior in every way to Fallout 3, the only argument i could use to justify someones preference going the other way is if they can only play games with guns. If you want a massive interactive world with beautiful landscapes, ultra character customization, INTERESTING exploration, a billion missions to do and so on, then get Oblivion. The immersion factor far out ways that of Fallout.

I agree ^.^ i just felt that more thought was put into the oblivion world...it was alot more dense with things to do everywhere while fallout 3 felt pretty empty...i still love both though

Both games are great, but I'd have to give the edge to fallout.

This is mainly because I love the ability to make choices in a game and have NPC's react to my actions. Oblivion does not do choices in the same sense as falout does. I also love the atmosphere of Falout with the old 20's music and all.

That said, Oblivion is surely a game worth your time, especially considering you can probably get it dirt cheap now. I have recently started playing FO3 again, thinking the expansions were out for the ps3 already, haven't seen them anywhere yet though, after beating that I'mgoing to play Oblivion again.

You see, that's the only reason I liked FO3, was because of the 1920/30's feel too it, but that's why I love Bioshock (Yes I know, Bioshock has nothing to do with either game). But overall, I simply loved Oblivion. The amount of time you can pour into the game with endless oppourtunities (not to mention the fact after you've finished the main quest, you can go back and carry on playing in the world whereas, so I've heard, you cannot in FO3) for quests.

I will have to go with Oblivion. I'm just more of a fantasy kind of guy rather than a post-apocalyptic one. Not to mention the size of Oblivion is much larger compared to Fallout 3. Both epic games though, it just comes down to personal preference for me.

Both are great games but IMHO Oblivion is the better RPG.

Also IMHO I dont understand why FO3 didn't have swords, bows etc. It seems strange that in a post-apocalyptic world everybody has guns.

Fallout 3.

I love the atmosphere of Oblivion, but I could never get into the game. The absolutely dreadful graphics, glitches, and crappy combat just rendered the game unplayable to me. I may try it again one day, though.

I adore Fallout 3 though. Even if my pants are wet the entire time. The shooting works much better to me because of the type of collision detection they use.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but Fallout 3 is my preference.

Oblivion (particularly the GOTY edition) is still highly recommended and, in truth, there's a lot about that game I prefer, but Fallout 3 edges out with a greatly superior story, setting and presentation (love the whole 50s Cold War spin on it). Oblivion also doesn't have VATS.

Anyway, you can find Oblivion GOTY Edition out there pretty cheap nowadays, I highly recommend it if you like Fallout 3... you're bound to get something out of it.

Since you own Fallout 3, it might be a waste of time bothering with Oblivion. I do love both games, Oblivion's amazingbut as you said it is very much a traditional RPG. You will not enjoy Oblivion if you have already played Fallout 3 (maybe give it a rent), because Fallouts world has had a lot more time put into it. That said, I put more hours into Oblivion and still look at it with fonder memories. Both games are awesome but if you love Fallout 3 because it has guns, blood and plays like an fps (all the wrong reasons) then chances are, Oblivion will not be kind to you.

I love both Fallout 3 and Oblivion, I have the Goty editions of both games, so both games do have some bugs, although to me the bugs don't hinder the games playability too much. Fallout 3 graphics are better than Oblivions but not by far. In Oblivion you have a main quest and many side quests from guilds and NPC's that may ask you for help with something. In Fallout 3 you also have a main quest and side quests that will appear, (if you have the goty edition) and from certain NPC's. I have yet to play through the entire game of either. In Fallout 3 you have a neat V.A.T.S targeting system that allows you to target specific parts of the body. I did like Oblivions character creation system better than Fallouts and all the different classes you can be and even create your own class. Both games will have you exploring for hours, the people who couldn't get into Oblivion, maybe they just like shooters more. I do like shooters but I am getting a bit tired of these post apocalyptic warzone games with 20s-50s music playing in the background. But yeah, I like both equally.

Well both games were meh for the ps3, i got them both on pc. What does that have to do with anything? Well on pc you can use mods, but how much changes the game? However in the pc version you can use amazing hd textures and add many REAL weapons instead of the fake ones the game has. So FO3. Fo3 as a game has better story and level up system. While oblivion has better looking map but more or less its the same. For what is worth FO3 is a better singleplayer experiance. I wouldnt reccomend oblivion if you dont like swords and magic.

I have both and personally, I enjoy Oblivion more simply because it's more traditional RPG then Fallout 3 which it's pretty much First Person Shooter with good RPG elements but in the end, it's more focused on shooting and I don't really feel like I'm playing the RPG.

However, both games are worth the money and offer many hours of solid gameplay, however I would have to argue that Oblivion is much, much longer game experience if you decide to look explore the huge world.

I was about to argue that Oblivion is one of the best looking games this get but then it struck that you probably played the PS3 version which I hear was somewhat half-baked.
