I'll be posting a full review for the game on here soon, but I thought I'd give you all a sneak preview. Far Cry 2 has already been reviewed by several sites, and most of these reviews have addressed issues such as AI and traveling pains, but I can assure you that there are more problems than just these two on the surface. I've now delved into the game for about 12 hours, and here are some of the things I've noticed so far.
Random Uber enemies: This has happened numerous times. The most memorable instance happened a couple hours ago, when I approached a group of three enemies. First one died from a head shot from my sniper, and the next one dropped after taking one to the gut, but the third was seemingly invincible. It took a headshot, gut shot, another head shot, and finally a good whack from my machete to take this guy down. This happens from time to time without warning.
Stupid Enemies: Most notable for me was the train mission. You go to aid your friend after a train has crashed, and you complete the mission upon defeat of all enemies. This took me about 20 minutes. 4 to kill everyone visible, and another 16 to find the two stragglers who apparently found something very interesting about the backside of the train.
Bad gunplay: First of all, accuracy on all guns is really bad, but the worst of all are the mounted guns. You can spray your bullets until the gun catches on fire, and you probably still won't hit your enemy. It is just that bad. Also, your own guns are pretty shaky. You can stand 5 ft from a guy, and 80%+ of your bullets will still miss him. You can aim if you want, but it's extremely difficult to see the enemies through the iron sights.
Suicidal buddies: Yes, your buddies are suicidal. I was on my way to meet my girl buddy, and she called me halfway there, said something about there being too many of them, and *click* she was dead. Now I hauled butt trying to get to her, so apparently the game hated her and wanted her to die. Beats me. In another instance, the fellow with the turban came to my aid after I was run over by a rogue jeep. Before I came to, he was on the ground himself. I healed him, and he got back up, only to fall down again. I repeated this twice, and on the third time he made me inject him 3 times, causing me to unwillingly perform a mercy killing. There weren't even any enemies around! He just kept collapsing!
Quicksand?: Apparently there's quicksand in the game. Just kidding, the game is just buggy. But really, during that train mission, my turban buddy kept whimpering in pain, and after my 20 minute battle with the idiot enemies, I now was faced with the task of finding him and aiding. After 10 minutes of searching, this is what I found: Turban boy stuck
I wasn't even presented with the option to attempt to save him, so I just shot him and put him out of his misery.
All in all, this game is pretty pitiful. Pretty? Yes, at times. Flawed? Very. I won't even mention the sandbox element, because it's just too frustrating, but I think I've made my point here.
