I'll be posting a full review for the game on here soon, but I thought I'd give you all a sneak preview. Far Cry 2 has already been reviewed by several sites, and most of these reviews have addressed issues such as AI and traveling pains, but I can assure you that there are more problems than just these two on the surface. I've now delved into the game for about 12 hours, and here are some of the things I've noticed so far.

Random Uber enemies: This has happened numerous times. The most memorable instance happened a couple hours ago, when I approached a group of three enemies. First one died from a head shot from my sniper, and the next one dropped after taking one to the gut, but the third was seemingly invincible. It took a headshot, gut shot, another head shot, and finally a good whack from my machete to take this guy down. This happens from time to time without warning.

Stupid Enemies: Most notable for me was the train mission. You go to aid your friend after a train has crashed, and you complete the mission upon defeat of all enemies. This took me about 20 minutes. 4 to kill everyone visible, and another 16 to find the two stragglers who apparently found something very interesting about the backside of the train.

Bad gunplay: First of all, accuracy on all guns is really bad, but the worst of all are the mounted guns. You can spray your bullets until the gun catches on fire, and you probably still won't hit your enemy. It is just that bad. Also, your own guns are pretty shaky. You can stand 5 ft from a guy, and 80%+ of your bullets will still miss him. You can aim if you want, but it's extremely difficult to see the enemies through the iron sights.

Suicidal buddies: Yes, your buddies are suicidal. I was on my way to meet my girl buddy, and she called me halfway there, said something about there being too many of them, and *click* she was dead. Now I hauled butt trying to get to her, so apparently the game hated her and wanted her to die. Beats me. In another instance, the fellow with the turban came to my aid after I was run over by a rogue jeep. Before I came to, he was on the ground himself. I healed him, and he got back up, only to fall down again. I repeated this twice, and on the third time he made me inject him 3 times, causing me to unwillingly perform a mercy killing. There weren't even any enemies around! He just kept collapsing!

Quicksand?: Apparently there's quicksand in the game. Just kidding, the game is just buggy. But really, during that train mission, my turban buddy kept whimpering in pain, and after my 20 minute battle with the idiot enemies, I now was faced with the task of finding him and aiding. After 10 minutes of searching, this is what I found: Turban boy stuck

I wasn't even presented with the option to attempt to save him, so I just shot him and put him out of his misery.

All in all, this game is pretty pitiful. Pretty? Yes, at times. Flawed? Very. I won't even mention the sandbox element, because it's just too frustrating, but I think I've made my point here.

Agree. There was a thread earlier where I was ranting about this game. It's just a glitchy, repetitive, tedious mess. I don't really care how good the graphics look, the game is just not that good. And I played the game for about 7 hours too, so it's not like I didn't give it a chance. Needless to say I already sold my copy to someone for $50. Probably the last UBISOFT game I buy in a while, the last 3 games or so I've bought from them have all been over-hyped disappointments.

That's what I was thinking. Wasn't Assassin's Creed a Ubisoft spawn?

Yep. Ass Creed and this are made by the same people. Ironically enough, I was ranting earlier about how Far Cry 2 is basically Assassin's Creed: The FPS.

And don't forget Haze.

I thought as much. I'm just glad I was able to get a pick of turban boy stuck in the ground. People are having a hard time believing how flawed this game is, based off of the "decent" reviews. I don't think I could honestly give this game over a 7 and still be able to sleep at night. It's huge and pretty, but it's just not a good game whatsoever.

Sad to see that a game I really anticpiated didn't turn out to be how I expected. The buddy stuck in the ground was a big suprise, I haven't seen glitches like that in modern games very often (except The Force Unleashed which I borrowed from a mate).

I'll wait to see what other people thing about it as most reviews are fairly decent for this title. For the time being I will just enjoy the ultimate sensation that is Dead Space!

Except Assassins Creed and Far Cry 2 were made by two completely different teams.

I know, right? That glitch totally caught me off guard. I haven't seen anything like that in a long time. I thought I had put those days behind me, but this game proved me wrong. The reviews out there make me wonder how long they really even played the games, because I don't see how they could overlook such huge issues.

Another thing that needs to be taken into account when reading reviews is the reviewer. Nowadays may games are advertising on the big gaming websites/reviewers and so there is a clear conflict of interest. Sometimes reviewers just go along with hype as well, it really depends. It's always good to read some cynical reviews just so you know everything that IS wrong with a game.

I dunno.. i disagree. Im probably 7hours in and im loving it, havent seen any massive glitches and it has been running as smooth as anything on my console. I do however agree the aiming can be ridiculous...it seems really unsensitive for the first slight movement on the joystick..then increases in sensitivity massively as u contine to move the stick, causing your site to swing across the screen.

I think you people got your standards too high. If you are going to pass the game because of minor glitches than you should stop gaming. So what that guy got stuck in the ground or image is little blurry in the distance compered to other console or PC. This things happen before and will happen in the future. The game-play is not realistic, guns are inaccurate, so what, they are not supposed to be cause than game would not be playable if they are. If you want realism go to the army.

Just for example take a look at COD4. This game has become a standard how FPS should be made. But it also have glitches. Do you think that when you shoot the guy in the head twice he should be standing? He should be dead or at least on the ground. But that did not turn me of the game. I just shoot him third time and he died. I moved on and continue playing and have fun.

Fun is all what matters!

I have the game for the PC and so far i agree with everything you have said, i have not played it aslong as im playing fable 2 then dead space before going back to FC2.

My main problem is the gun play it just feels so loose and im playing with a mouse which is allot better than using the 360 gamepad(i usually use the 360 pad for most my pc games, i just prefer a pad but a mouse is fine also) which has terrible sensitivity on the PC, if you push the analog stick half way it slowly moves the camera(gun) if you push all the way it's so quick that in less then a second you can do a 360and there's no way to adjust the sensitivity on the pad(you can for the mouse but it does not affect the pad) so i changed to mouse/keyboard which is better for this game but the gunplay is so lose that you miss allot of the time, i use the iron sights always for shooting but even then when im positive im aiming directly at his head i miss, and the mounted weapons are a joke, if you shoot branches on a tree they come off so i let loose with the 50 cal on the trees and when the gun was on fire not 1 branch had been removed, and its takes several 50 cal shoots to take someone down.

Far cry 2 could have been amazing, but its still a decent game.

Inaccurate isn't even the word for it. Like I said you can aim right down the sights of a mounted gun and shoot it til it literally spits flames, and you probably still won't take the guy down. It's just poor game making at its best. That'd be like playing a platformer where the jump button doesn't work. Our standards aren't too high. The game just doesn't work.

Well that is your opinion and I'm not going to say that it is inaccurate or not

I just like the game and that things do not bother me. I did not even noticed it until people start to mention it

I had it freeze once, but yesterday afternoon I popped in the disk, and 4 times in a row when it booted up, the sound would go, but the video wasn't displaying. I don't think it was a problem with my PS3, cuz it was just going around like business as usually, even popped in GTA IV to make sure. No idea what was going on there. 5th time worked like a charm, hasn't happened since, but it was weird.

Too bad you all aren't enjoying it. I've put about 5 hours into the game and I am having a lot of fun so far. Currently I'm just running around unlocking safehouses and guard posts.

As for the "inaccurate" guns. Ummmmm. The first 2 or 3 bullets are quite accurate if you aim down the scope. Also try buying the manuals for the guns, helps alot.

For the guy complaining bout the mounted .50 cal. I have merked countless people with that weapon. The accuracy doesn't seem to be an issue.

On a final note, for those complaining about how the aiming feels "loose"...like it accelerates across the screen and ish. Well...the original far cry was like that if I recall correctly. BEsides, it's not even THAT noticeable.

Oh well, to each their own I guess.

I really thought that game would have a 9 or higher. Can we call it a flop at 8,5 ?!?! No, but at least it's higher than 7.

I'm just happy with the level editor. So many concepts to try. There is one audio glitch where the ambient sounds cut out once in a while when you are building stuff. Hope they patch the game soon.

After playing Far Cry 2 yesterday, I have to say that this game really did grow on me. The controls did feel weird at first but I got use to them and that is no longer a problem. The AI seems to be ok since they seem just as lost on my location as I am. I do agree that the game is somewhat repetitive and the hit detection is awful(Unless you are using a sniper rifle or hand gun). Haven't encountered any serious glitches tho. I am having a lot of fun with setting guys on fire and sniping from across the field. Got to love those night kills.

[QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"]My copy just arrived, installing it to the HDD. I've heard it's been having freezing problems, anyone encountered anything like that?jubino

I've been reading about alot of problems with the PS3 version. I saw this coming so I got the game for the 360 instead. Ubisoft sucks at making PS3 games. Everytime I've tried a ubisoft game on the Ps3 it's nearly broken. Assassins Creed froze constantly and Rainbow Six Vegas 2's multiplayer was broken, everytime you joined a game you just ended up running around an arena alone. I think you picked the game on the wrong system, not saying it will make you like the game any better ( people either love it or hate it ) but it might have given you less glitches and hassle.

This game's very good. I don't have any issues whatsoever with the gun mechanics.

Well buggy games seem to be a huge prob this gen.

I still am lost to why developers rather go after a buggy over detailed "run like junk game" over something they can do, that runs fantastic. And it happens over and over this gen.

Bad gen for education means bad development I guess? Not that im a 6 year grad student lol. Just seems to fit what is.

I'm only about 3 hours in, but the only glitch I have come across is throwing a gernade and having it get stuck in midair without exploding. This game is fun. Yes, half the battle is getting to your mission spot, but just press X to use the turret in the car and your enemies are gone.

I have no clue what you're complaining about TC. I'm into the game about 6 hours now and I'm loving it. The only things I did have a problem was with the aiming down the iron sight but if you fire in burst fire it should be fine and the enemies will sometimes act really stupid. But it's not enough to ruin the game.

Hrmmmmm, I still haven't found all these bugs everyone is complaining about...*knocks on wood*.

Anyways I am about 6 hours in but only 4 % completion on Hardcore. I just keep going around unlocking guns through the firearms missions and searching out enemy outposts. I suppose I should start focusing on the main mission sooner or later. Fallout 3 is already prepaid after all and that comes out mighty soon :P.

Whats everyone playing on? I hope I don't hear lots of "easy"

too bad you're going to listen to a couple of people who didn't like the game...LOL I mean, you had your own personal mind changed by a few people you DONT even know on the internet.

You know what they always say, go with your gut instinct.

well in this thread ... especially on the first page it was only getting hate from two people.

If you liked far cry 1 (game plays and feels the same way) and liked oblivion and its open world. Then you will like far cry 2. If you prefer your FPS games to guide you through each and every level then you might not like it as much.

Cheers.

Well, I'm personally enjoying it so far, I'm about 5 hours in and I'm having a blast. Also there are some people that are saying there's no wildlife in the game. Well, I just encountered a zebra and a few gazelles already. Sure the game has glitches (what game doesn't), and I actually encountered a spot in the geometry that was unfinished. It was like this gaping long hole in the ground that I got stuck in and had to jump for a minute to get out of it. But other than that I'm enjoying it.

This game makes me wanna BARF!

What a pathetic piece of trash this game is. The gunplay blows, The graphics are nothing to get excited about, and The story is straight up boring! Not to mention the glitches and crap like for instance I can't even access my XMB while playing this crap, Everytime I hit the PS button it will bring it up but then it will automatically exit out of it! What is up with Ubisoft and their crappy ass FPS games?

You must have very low expectations for games because I am pretty tolerate myself but this game really does suck.

Well, in game XMB wrks for me...Might be a problem with your copy/ps3.

So what numerous other glitches are upsetting you?

Please don't say the enemies can take uber damage....and headshots dont work. They clearly do. (this is not directed at you, just seems to be a complaint in general everywhere)

Apparently enemies take less damage on the harder difficulty, i haven't tried this tho. Something about making them as strong as you are.

Headshots work fine for me, online and off.

[QUOTE="jubino"]

[QUOTE="DaddyLongCaddy"]Agree. DaddyLongCaddy

Sorry I really don't think there could be a game as BAD as Haze!!!!!

LOL. Yeah it's pretty bad, but I think stuff like Conflict: Denied Ops and Area 51 were even worse. It's not that bad.

But yeah, Far Cry 2 is better than the most of the trash Ubisoft releases. I just thought the game had a lot of problems I couldn't overlook, and it really surprised me a lot of this stuff not being mentioned in reviews. I don't really care anymore though, like I said, I quickly got rid of my copy. Too many good games coming out to be messing around with this mediocre title.

its not that bad... the editor is great works the cell a bit though. the only problems ive had is really dumb AI. where i walk up next to them and they dont even look at me. then i kill them and they dont even try to fight back.
