everyone keeps mentioning "problems" without actually being specific! Perhaps yall could clarify.
Hrmmmm, I'm playing on hardcore atm and enemies seem to die in about 3-4 chest shots from an ak, 1 bullet for a hs of course.

1. Dumb AI: sometimes you can walk right by an ememy and they won't even do anything. You can literally stare at them for 5 seconds....and then they start shooting. Other times they see you from a mile away.
2. Hit detection is inacurrate: try sniping an ememy while they are running. Sometimes it doesn't work. You can see blood splatter, but they won't take damage. This probably goes hand in hand with the "bullet sponge" complaint. Probably half the times you shoot an enemy, the hits aren't even registering.
3. Repetitive mission structure: seriously, the gun dealer gives you the same mission EVERY time. It's just not fun. "Destroy the convoy". And am I the only person who notices the truck never stops? It just drives in one big circle every time.
4. Where are the civilians in this game? Does no one live in Africa? It's just one big giant environment with absolutely no life whatsoever. 99% of the people you encounter are male soldiers...that you shoot. There isn't even anyone at the bus stops....who drives the bus? You?
These are just some problems I had with the game. Call them "petty" if you wish. Add in sound glitches, random pauses and freezes, and screen tearing...the game just is not that fun IMO. I have more of a problem with the design of the game rather than the technical aspect.
It tries to sell itself as an open-world, sandbox game...but it just doesn't work. It's missing too many aspects. It's more of a non-linear, basic shooter than anything else.
Well, I appreciate finally getting a reply that outlines what the person dislikes.
Haven't had a chance to try and snipe a moving target as of yet...Hmmm, we shall see. As for the A.I. being stupid, thats weird because I can't sneak up on ANY of them no matter how hard I try. Then again I am playing the game on hardcore? What difficulty were/are you playing it on?
As for the repetitve missions....concerning the convoy truck ones. What do you want to have to do? The guy wants you to eliminate his competition, the weapons of his compeittion are in these trucks. Sure they "go around in a circle". Well, yes they do...but its quite a large circle, and besides, what do you want them to do....drive ALL over the map? The world is too large.
Just to cover one of your last complaints about not seeing many civilians. HRmmmm, I seem to recall hearing early on from the guy you get your first audio recording from that all HIS friends (and most everyone) had escaped the land and if they hadn't they are in hiding waiting for a chance. This might explain why you don't see a lot of civilians. To touch note on why you are seeing just soldies, wellllll this is a warzone being controlled by two different factions...Kind of makes sense that you don't see all these different civilians.
Anyways man thanks for the quality reply.

I guess you have some points. Maybe the game just didn't click with me. I was playing on Normal btw.
Another thing I forgot to note was the respawning enemies, which from what I've seen is a universal complaint.
[QUOTE="alstevens83"][QUOTE="DaddyLongCaddy"][QUOTE="jubino"][QUOTE="DaddyLongCaddy"]Agree. There was a thread earlier where I was ranting about this game. It's just a glitchy, repetitive, tedious mess. I don't really care how good the graphics look, the game is just not that good. And I played the game for about 7 hours too, so it's not like I didn't give it a chance. Needless to say I already sold my copy to someone for $50. Probably the last UBISOFT game I buy in a while, the last 3 games or so I've bought from them have all been over-hyped disappointments. DaddyLongCaddy
That's what I was thinking. Wasn't Assassin's Creed a Ubisoft spawn?
Yep. Ass Creed and this are made by the same people. Ironically enough, I was ranting earlier about how Far Cry 2 is basically Assassin's Creed: The FPS.
And don't forget Haze.
Sorry I really don't think there could be a game as BAD as Haze!!!!!
LOL. Yeah it's pretty bad, but I think stuff like Conflict: Denied Ops and Area 51 were even worse. It's not that bad.
But yeah, Far Cry 2 is better than the most of the trash Ubisoft releases. I just thought the game had a lot of problems I couldn't overlook, and it really surprised me a lot of this stuff not being mentioned in reviews. I don't really care anymore though, like I said, I quickly got rid of my copy. Too many good games coming out to be messing around with this mediocre title.
And that deserves the /thread tag!!
Truly this game is a waste of time and money.. I feel jipped that I even rented this crap I should have went with Saints Row 2 instead. But nooo the guy at the counter had to say hey I just got FarCry 2 in you want that instead? Here I thought the game would actually be good.. NOPE!! Looks like Ubisoft is getting worse than EA.
In terms of enemies respawning at an unacceptable rate. Even on hardcore I haven't found this to be the case.
Now, if you clearout a safehouse those guys will never respawn there. If you go wipeout a enemy guard post and leave the area and then come back...well...yah the guys will be respawned. But the idea isn't to kill them anyways right, the idea is to use your map and press L1 for the minocular I think it is. Then you take the picture on the ammo, or health crate you know.
So yeah, the enemies respawn but only at spots really where they should be respawning.
Just a note*
I can't pass judgement on how repetitive the main missions are...at the moment I am just unlocking safehouses and searching out guardposts while also hitting the antena missions and convoy ones.
I hear the game gets pretty sweet man. One guy was sayin how he was on a mission where he has to paraglide into a mercenary encampment...assassinate two guys , stealthy...and then he needs to hightale it out of there before noon or something!
To all Far Cry 2 players:
Should I get Far Cry 2 over BioShock, or is BioShock better game overall? I am deciding between these two games, I just want to know which one will be a better choice. Thanks in advance.jjgamer03
Bioshock is amazing I highly suggest you get it instead of this crap
IMO the game is better than SR2. It even runs better, which is sad, considering the huge difference in tech.
And for the people who haven't played it yet but are quoting me, Far Cry 2 is NOT a bad game. You should try it out for yourself instead of listening to me. It just wasn't my thing, but I can see why a lot of people like it. Hopefully Ubisoft can release some patches to get rid of some of the glitches and make the game better. Right now I'd probably give it a 7.5 or so.
And the game install is 2.9 GB, I'm not sure why everyone is reporting this game as having a 3.5GB install, it's incorrect.

The install was actually pretty quick too suprisingly.. But the game is still crap and I still feel ripped off for renting it.
ive been playing the game pretty much solid for the last 5 hours and i havent experienced any major problems, and the accuracy seems fine to me. the only annoying thig is that a get some audio lag between firing the gun and the sound of the shots and sometimes no sound comes at all. anyone else had this problem?
But really enjoying the gameso far.
I have been having a blast with far cry!!!
The fire is un real and grows to sizes that most games would lag on,
Sound and graphics are great in hd!! the truck revving noise in cool
Online runs smooth, nicest looking iron sights i have seen' healing youself is cool and firefights are intense.
AI is pretty tough, but there is a nice aspect of steath and battle choice.
Too much to do, if that is bad, People will easily put in 10 hours in the first 2-3 days from online and single.
This games offers alot and is far from a generic fps!!!
VVVVROOOOOOOOM!!!!!! Im going to play just to mess arourd with battle posts and starting fires!!!
I think you people got your standards too high. If you are going to pass the game because of minor glitches than you should stop gaming. So what that guy got stuck in the ground or image is little blurry in the distance compered to other console or PC. This things happen before and will happen in the future. The game-play is not realistic, guns are inaccurate, so what, they are not supposed to be cause than game would not be playable if they are. If you want realism go to the army.
Just for example take a look at COD4. This game has become a standard how FPS should be made. But it also have glitches. Do you think that when you shoot the guy in the head twice he should be standing? He should be dead or at least on the ground. But that did not turn me of the game. I just shoot him third time and he died. I moved on and continue playing and have fun.
Fun is all what matters!
mamkem6
Well said. No game will ever be perfect in realism but adding more hitpoints to an enemy is what makes the game fun.

Hit points are fine, but not being able to hit your enemy very well (at least not as well as it should work), and add in all the other bugs and lamo moments of the game, and you've got a 6.5, 7.0 game tops.
I'll be posting a full review for the game on here soon, but I thought I'd give you all a sneak preview. Far Cry 2 has already been reviewed by several sites, and most of these reviews have addressed issues such as AI and traveling pains, but I can assure you that there are more problems than just these two on the surface. I've now delved into the game for about 12 hours, and here are some of the things I've noticed so far.
COMPLAINT #1---Random Uber enemies: This has happened numerous times. The most memorable instance happened a couple hours ago, when I approached a group of three enemies. First one died from a head shot from my sniper, and the next one dropped after taking one to the gut, but the third was seemingly invincible. It took a headshot, gut shot, another head shot, and finally a good whack from my machete to take this guy down. This happens from time to time without warning.
COMPLAINT #2 something about glitches (deleted it by accident lol)-------- Most notable for me was the train mission. You go to aid your friend after a train has crashed, and you complete the mission upon defeat of all enemies. This took me about 20 minutes. 4 to kill everyone visible, and another 16 to find the two stragglers who apparently found something very interesting about the backside of the train.
COMPLAINT #3----Bad Gunplay: First of all, accuracy on all guns is really bad, but the worst of all are the mounted guns. You can spray your bullets until the gun catches on fire, and you probably still won't hit your enemy. It is just that bad. Also, your own guns are pretty shaky. You can stand 5 ft from a guy, and 80%+ of your bullets will still miss him. You can aim if you want, but it's extremely difficult to see the enemies through the iron sights.
COMPLAINT #4------Suicidal budies: Yes, your buddies are suicidal. I was on my way to meet my girl buddy, and she called me halfway there, said something about there being too many of them, and *click* she was dead. Now I hauled butt trying to get to her, so apparently the game hated her and wanted her to die. Beats me. In another instance, the fellow with the turban came to my aid after I was run over by a rogue jeep. Before I came to, he was on the ground himself. I healed him, and he got back up, only to fall down again. I repeated this twice, and on the third time he made me inject him 3 times, causing me to unwillingly perform a mercy killing. There weren't even any enemies around! He just kept collapsing!
.jubino
number 1- dont know what you're talking about with uber enemies. I am playing on Hardcore difficulty and 3 ak shots to the chest kills them...SOMETIMES has to be 4. If I am hitting them in the shoulder and ish then yah..maybe a few more. HS are always one hit kills, pistol even.
number 2- if its about glitches (notice I mentioned above I deleted what the second complaint was originally about)...havent really found serious ones yet. One guy seemed lost at one point. An enemy that is (was chillin on the side of a hill. That was one glitch in 12 hours of gameplay though too.
number 3- your beef with mounted guns is illigit. I have taken out 2 guys from a distance with with mounted .50 cal using the iron scope. Even without it I have no trouble with 2 or 3 guys. All the other weapons are the same. If you are having trouble buy weapon upgrades.
number 4- suicidal buddies? Well, they do die in the game. Sometimes when they rescue you they get killed because they take too much damage. Perhaps if you leave them there wounded too long they die? I've only had the chick die on me so far.
So that about covers your gripes about the game. I'm sure many other people who have played this game would agree with me. Of we will see some who will resort to flaming. I do appreciate yougiving some actual reasons though. Even if I disagree with them.
I don't know what y'all are talking about. I am having no problems with accuracy. It just depends on the gun. I get headshots with the pistol all the time. As far the 50 cal. goes, I like driving into checkpoints using this gun. It makes wiping them all out pretty easy. It's definitely not as accurate as the other guns, but it's not unbearable. I seem to do just fine with it. As a matter of fact, I took a guy out on the run from long distance. All the guns are not suppose to be spot on. There has to be variation. Maybe some of you aren't use to not having a cross hair? I don't know, but I'm definitely enjoying this game.
ok i cant stand this any longer. those mounted guns are NOT 50 cals. thay are mounted versions of the m249 SAW i thiink but deffenity not 50 cals.Basicly thay are 30 cals. 50 cal BMG's have a slower fire rate and a completly deffernt sound as well as looks deffernt . ;)Wild_Card
Thank you. I didn't want to start that fight, too.

You've been trolling all over.. the gameplay is there the only problem with the game is the servers which will be fixed.. if you had read any of those reviews instead of just looking at the numbers you'd know that... do you even own the game?Jubino, you are a troll.
Just another thing about yoru accuarcy complaint. You know before the game was released that they said that bullets would not be as accurate as in some other games?
Btw bro, I'm sorry that this game doesn't allow you to hold down the trigger buttons spraying bullets everywhere. There is a bit of a learning curve. I honestly didn't think it was THAT steep though.
I don't know. I think a lot of you guys are in denial. It's nice to think that we didn't waste $60 of our hard earned money, and it sure makes seeing fault a little more difficult, but the game has issues, and there are no two ways around that.jubino
Maybe you are the one in denial. I have no reason to be in denial about a game especially if it is to justify spending the money on the game. Money is not an issue. Yes, there is some screen tearing, but I am yet to run into any glitches...knock on wood. I am honestly enjoying the hell out of the game. Accuracy is definitely not an issue in this game. You people are just terrible at it.
Jubino = Troll
You provided photo evidence of ONE glitch. Do you want a milkbone or something? Almost every videogame I have ever played has had a glitch in it before.
Every other complaint you have had whether it be about graphics, accuracy, super enemies has been provin to be nonsense. Atleast in the sense that a lot of other people are NOT having the same issues as you.
also, calling people idiots does you no good. Didn't mommie and daddy teach you this when you were younger?
Jubino, you are a troll.

Why does everyone think I'm just spraying constantly. Honestly, I figured out that one a long time ago. It's not like it's some sort of secret in the game. But when you're doin short sprays from an LMG about 10 feet away from the guy with your sights right on him, and you're still missing, it's just ridiculous. Anyway, everyone seems to be focusing on that complaint, but that's just one of many that I have with the game. And just cuz I don't like a game does NOT make me a troll. You need to look the word up, buddy. Does liking pizza make me a fanboy of pizza? If I jump up and down a bunch, am I spamming? Seriously guys, let's try to make some valid arguements.

Nothing has been proven to be anything. I'm just sayin what I experienced, and do with it what you will. There that covers the rest of your beef. Notice I just repasted this from like page 3 or so.
I've gone through every issue you have had about the game. Most of them are ridiculous and aren't even noticeable. Most people following this thread would agree.KapG
That's the thing, not everyone has agreed with you. I'm obviously not the only one who has experienced these issues, therefore my opinions hold some truth. Whether or not you've seen them or allowed yourself to see them is another story entirely, but I'm not the only one out there. Even some of the professional reviewers have noticed these things, so why am I suddenly a troll? To call me a troll is to call every reviewer out there a troll.

He just kept collapsing!
.
number 1- dont know what you're talking about with uber enemies.
There that covers the rest of your beef. Notice I just repasted this from like page 3 or so.

Well that's more like it. You don't have to resort to calling someone a troll just cuz they disagree with you, just make some good arguments and then we can just agree to disagree ;).
well I did call yo ua troll, but then after I saw your post I went back to edit my post.
BTW most of the professional reviewers...gave the game 8 and up. Thats pretty good.

As a technical achievement the game is pretty huge, and I can definitely see how someone can just dive right into it, but it just wasn't for me. I'm pretty picky and definitely over-critical (to a fault) when it comes to games. And I'm sure there are some games we could agree on that are out there, but I doubt this is one of them.
