Hey all i'm just wondering which do you prefer to have the lead role in Final Fantasy Games, personally i prefer the lead role to be males no offense but females in the lead roles most of the time aren't that great. My personal favourite lead character in all the final fantasy games has to be Zidane. So what gender do you all prefer and for all the final fantasy games which lead character did you like the best?

Oh and another thing i think the lead characters after FF9 have been real crap, they need to make the leading character much better (unlike the ones in ff10 and 12)

I prefer female leads.

I'm pretty much done with the typical "badass" stereotype that America has grown oh so fond of (Master Chief, Kratos, etc.) I think the foreign countries do lead roles, both femal and male, better than Americans.

For example, Snake was a badass because of what he did, not because of a lack of emotion or a big stupid space suit.

Nariko from Heavenly Sword was sexy not because her breasts were bigger than her head, but because she was truly strong; human, even. (One of the reasons I believe it didn't sell so amazingly here in the US)

Americans just aren't as good as making characters that most anyone can relate to. This is because of culture and things like that. The same can be applied to Japanese stories and films, which are longer and provide more detail than American works that tend to get to the point quickly.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing, they're just two different styles.

I personally prefer the Japanese's style.

Like Scianix, I prefer Japanese-designed females. There's something so incredibly hot about a female ripping apart limbs from bodies and inserting foreign objects into the vital organs of their victims. I'm loving the direction FFXIII is going with Lightning. Good thing too, because those FF male leads were getting girlier and girlier. (lol Vaan)

I'll agree with Scianix- the US 'idea' of a hero has become too cliched and horribly sterotyped. Drake from Uncharted is probably the exception of a good male lead created by a US dev company. I mean, a hero doesnt need biceps and steroids to make him strong. My favourtie 'hero' of all time is the wanderer from Shadow of the Colossus. In comparison to Masterchief he's a weedy lil bugger, but he's no doubt stronger in heart and soul! As for FF, i dont mind- all the leads are very well developed, i find... and thats why i ove the series! Of course, being a girl I do like my eye-candy so a guy lead would be preferable but beggers cant be choosers.

Also, I forgot to mention Faith from Mirror's Edge as a good female lead in comparison to Tomb Raider's Lara Croft.

DEFINITELY

female lead.

I mean male lead is pointless anyway since they look and act like female character anyway.

If that's the case, just add some boobs for me to look at and make them jiggle.

Personally I would think it would be best if we could choose the gender of the main character at the beginning of the game and with each choice should be a different storyline. The male main characters in past games have shown personality traits of being doubtful and down about everything that happens and takes life as it goes (FF7, FF8, etc). Female main characters on the other hand show signs of hope and determination to find something. So being able to choose which character can satisfy both consumers who have their preferences

I'm actually very surprised that a lot of you people like female leads, i donno i just don't find female leads to be appealing as much like the new lead for final fantasy XIII she looks like she has no emotion if you ask me and she gives me this manly vibe like her personality is gonna be man like.

LOL you agree with breast bigger than heads part dont you? What does it matter the FF males look like women anyway. Actually that is a japanese thing look at the new RPG on the Wii called Fragile. The lead is a male but you wouldn't know by looking or listening to him.

I don't mind either way, there have been some good female and good male leads, there has also been poor ones of both genders. What matters to me is that they make me care about them, sad when they are and happy when something goes right for them, organility and good story helps there.

Male... female leads makes me less interested... like Heavenly Sword, the game is awesome, but i don't like the idea of a female lead character. also in FF X-2. it's even hard for me make enemies out them, like shooting those beauties in MGS 4... also in NGS, i love to see Rachel but i didn't really enjoy playing her that much.so no female for FF game lead for me, but it's okay to be a member of my party.

oh and i forgot to answer the topic, :P i would probably go with male lead. but i'm not talking about those teenager/little kid noobs given power to save the world, emos, metros, or surfer dudes, i'm talking about charcters like Dart, Ashley, Fei, etc.. (PSX vets should know these names). i definitely like female leads as well, but they have to be strong too; what i mean by that is that their pressence should be felt. none of these Yunas, Ashes, Rinoas. Lightning seems like the kind of cool female leads that i'm talkin about, but she also comes off as being an uptight girl, which works well is there's also a male character/love interest with countering personality. cliche? yes, but still enjoyable for character development. If not, someone like that gets annoying too. (i say that solely based on my limited observation of her character and dialouge from the recent trailers; i may be entirely wrong about her personality).

Not that kind of party Scianix... grouping of characters that you will use in battles is called a party in FF games, right? what i meant was, i like the lead character to be a male, but it's okay to have a women fighting side by side with you...

I have nothing against women, we're talking about playing a female character in a game? In case you didn't get my point... i'm just trying to express that as a guy, it doesn't feel right for me to play as a woman... if you're a guy, can you imagine yourself singing "Dancing Queen" in Videoke/Karaoke bar?

Both are good, but more females are more welcome (not enough). Final Fantasy games have had several female leads by this time ... Yuna, Terra, Ashe ... and now lightning. ;)

For some reason, I like playing as females. Always played as Ashe in FFXII even when Vaan was in the party, and hell, when Pokemon Gold/Silver came out I created a female character. In Left 4 Dead, I will always play as the chick. Most of my favorite chracters in games are female because they are just so damned cool. Loved Falsetto in Eternal Sonata, Ashe in FFXII, Alicia and Marina in Valkyria Chronicles, and many others. Look at my sig and tell me who my favorite Persona 4 character is...

I just like playing as a female. There's something about the lead character being a woman that interests me. Maybe it's because I'm a guy and I know how being a guy feels like. It feels refreshing to play as a female character. I'm pretty feminine myself at times, so whatever.

Dice (mirrors edge) is swedish? That was my first reaction, but on closer inspection I think you were no longer talking about international ideologies. The UK has some good leads, all the GTA games have fantastic charaters although they are mainly male. Sackboy has a cult following. Erm... Oh! was Legacy of Kain from the UK? and of course: Cortez from timesplitters 3, one of the best characters EVER! America has some absolutely terrible characters- All Gears of war characters are a huge example of this. But also- Nathan Hale, That guy from splinter cell, Master Chief, Kratos etc etc

I suppose Square could not decide with FFXII, and made Vaan. A bit of both. But I am starting to prefer the female leads more.

as odd as i feel saying this i prefer male leads, i cant explain why though. maybe FF X-2 jaded me..

unless its a fighting game then its a different story

Rigour_Mortise

But fighting games don't have leads :? There are several characters with background stories that bleed into one plot.

As for Drake from Uncharted, yes. He's an excellent example of male lead done right by an American developer.

Also, I forgot to mention Faith from Mirror's Edge as a good female lead in comparison to Tomb Raider's Lara Croft.

But also- Nathan Hale, That guy from splinter cell, Master Chief, Kratos etc etc

lol, See what I mean?

Americans get too crazy with their leads, especially the male ones, to the point where they're all pretty much similar.

I don't really like Nathan Hale too much, either.

[QUOTE="shreeveera_ps3"]I PREFER MALE LEADS(FFV13) BUT I LIKE A LOT OF BUSTY FEMALE SIDE CHARACTER WITH A LOVE TRIANGLE.....:oops:taplok

DEFINITELY

female lead.

I mean male lead is pointless anyway since they look and act like female character anyway.

If that's the case, just add some boobs for me to look at and make them jiggle.

TriangleHard

Scianix, maybe you should accuse them of sexism rather than my previous statement...?

I wasn't accusing you of sexism, though. I was just questioning your logic. I understand that party thing.

Like, so you only liked looking at Rachel from NGS, but you didn't like playing as her because she's a female lead?

That's pretty blatant compared to the other responeses.

[QUOTE="SikKwuN"]zidane was pretty much a female :P i keed i keed. imo, it doesnt matter who the lead is, as long as its an awesome character that i can love and get attatched to. which is prob easier if it was a guy.Scianix-Black

I know you didn't mean it in that way, but it just made me laugh.

Yes, i didn't like playing her coz i didn't like using that heavy War Hammer, but you couldn't get through with the game wirthout playing her part... i actually di appreciate her looks and that doesn't mean i'm degrading her... but what can i do, i didn't really like playing her part that much... what do i have to say? do i have to appreciate her moves if i appreciate her appearance... and i don't see what's blatant about saying that i loved to see Rachel...? i think it would be more offensive for a woman if a guy is just interested with her jiggling boobs, rather than appreciating her beauty as an individual... if you like women lead characters kid, that's fine wth me... but as for me, i never meant dispespect for women, maybe you got confused between appreciation and malicious intent? what i said was my opinion and what i feel when playing a game with a female lead, i'm expressing what i feel... now if you couldn't take that, what can i do? we're not the same. that is my opinion. respect that.
