I would rent Uncharted. It is a great game but once you finish it there really is not that much more to do with it. I would say overall that it is a probably a 8.5 - 9.0 game. However, I generally stick with games that offer more replay value than anything and rent single player games. That being said Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank are both great games, both of which are exceptional single player titles. If online gaming is not your first choice, those are clearly some of the best games out for the system.

Personally, if you like COD4 like me, then I would check out a game like Unreal Tournament 3. I enjoyed COD4 thouroughly, the single player campaign is the best out all year (play it on a hard difficulty to get your moneys worth) and the multiplayer is solid, lag free, and robust in its offerings. However Unreal Tournament 3 offers a huge challenge in terms of how good you have to be to be good online. It has a huge skill gap (ie the good players are much better than the average players) and to me that makes an online game that much better. I am pretty good at Unreal 3 and it is definately a welcomed challenge to the ease of COD4 online. Also the mods, free downloadable maps, and other additions that are sure to come will really make that game heat up. I am just waiting for someone to make a Halo3 mod that will inevitabley draw lawsuits from Bungie and thus make it a famousmod (any publicity is good publicity)probably launching an independent studio sometime. Hit me up MadKernel87 if you want a challenge in that game.

Finally I cannot help but mention Warhawk. Although it has been shelved due to really good online offerings in COD4 and Unreal3, it still is a solid game. If the on foot mechanics were a tad better I would say it is the best of the games online. Plus the expansion pack is pretty sweet and moderately priced although not enough to bring me off of Unreal3. Whereas Unreal3 offers an arcade style, lighting fast first person offering, Warhawk offers a quickly paced, highly arcady, third person shooter more focused on team elements. Featuring vehicles and cap points in every game type, Warhawk may offer more diversity than Unreal3 from COD4.

In the end, if you are looking for a solid single player experience, you cannot go wrong with either Ratchet and Clank or Uncharted. Uncharted in particular is a solid game, the story is compelling, the graphics and animations are showcases, and it offers alot of diverse gameplay. That being said, it is not as good as the reviews point it out to be. I still think the controls are rather clumsy. On the other hand for single player, Ratchet delivers all of the above with very tight controls. It may not have a mature storyline or settings, but it plays better than Uncharted if you ask me. Both are A quality games, both are also rentals for me. If online is your gig, pick up Unreal or Warhawk.

Happy Holidays-

I played it on the hardest difficulty and it probably took 15 - 20 or so hours. So in a sense, it really is a solid single player offering. However I cannot justify $60 anymore for a great single player experience unless it is something like God of War, something truly epic and balls out amazing.

If you dig single player games and are not much into online, Uncharted is a solid AAA game. It controls a bit clunky for my taste but hey, I did not complain while i put in marathon sessions trying to beat it in the week I had it rented. The story is good, it has a mature setting and rings out Indiana Jones/Any Adventure movie throughout.
