I'm curious when this first started the PS3 was in the 700+ TFLOP range but now we are lucky if we get into the 400+ TFLOP range, am I missing something? It seems like the more folding users we get the less TFLOP's we do? or am completly wrong on how it works?

Stanford University uses your processing power of your Cell processor to help find a cure for diseases like cancer.

Here is the stats page were you can see how many TFOLPS  the PS3 can process compared to PC's,Linux,Mac... etc

In another month those numbers will get less and less. Right now about 0.7% of PS3 owners are actually using this and sadly the numbers will continue to decrease.

I've done 3 folds myself, but I can't see to many people taking part. 8 hours is a long time.

I'm around 13-14... it's not that hard if you leave it working when you sleep... Or, since I divide my time between the PS3 and the PC; it works also when I'm on the PC... Since the PS3 has no over heating problems there's no harm in leaving it on all night... I suppose no one plays while sleeping :)

Because it's a fad that people are growing tired of, just like when it was first introduced for PC's. When the PC version started up people jumped on it with great fervor, but after a while the novelty faded. It's a noble cause, for sure. But people just don't stay committed to things that are abstracted from them. Seeing a fancy animation and a counter going up just isn't enough reward for most people.

I was wondering the same thing about the TFLOPs. In one day the TFLOPS were almost halved. I'm thinking they changed the formula for calculating TFLOPS for the CELL because given the growth rate of the active users and TFLOP's originally established there's no way the TFLOPS should be lower now with more active users.

I don't own a PS3, 360 owner here, but wouldn't it be cool to get a trophy for doing this folding at home thing. I don't know exactly how it works, saw a video podcast on 1up and thought it was pretty cool. I don't know about leaving any system on all night, makes me afraid of putting any more wear and tear on the system, but a Trophy for your systems services would be pretty cool to get.

what do you guys think?

I'm pretty sure more people would do the folding at home if they got something for their participation, a tropy won't change your life, but these Trophies and Achievements are a cool addition to our video gaming, or pursuit for a cure for a disease.

It would be pretty cool, like a cancer awareness ribbon of sorts.  I bet they could or may do something when HOME hits.
