The price drop is fine.
Adding a new SKU with better hardware is not.Â

I agree, if Sony pulls a Microsoft on us(putting out a better SKU with better hardware) I will be very mad.
Wouldn't bother me at all. It was worth the extra $50-$100 to have it since launch.emitsu97

same here and the ps3 is fine what its worth every one is just waiting for games i hate ppl who cry about it being to expenseive its just right if its to much dont buy it or come complaining about it
For people who already bought a ps3, would you be glad of a price cut meaning more install base meaning more games for ps3, or would you be pissed feeling that u didn' t get ur money' s worth ?honzo2k
It would piss me off as much as it would piss off a xbox 360 owner of a new 360 coming out.....
Seriously though, I wouldnt be pissed. It would mean more ps3 owners, a larger ps3 community, and more reason for the devs to put more focus and effort into the system

Didn't Sony release a slim PS2 with built in internet port and played dvd-r, progressive scan and dvd remote? None of which were in the first models.

4 years later.
18 months and 4 years are two very different time scales.Â

The pevious model revisions added the remote, dvd-r and progressive scan. Fact is the Ps2 had so many revisions that added and sometimes removed stuff.

No problem with a price cut. It's happened to every system thus far. And no one forced me to buy a PS3 early. I choose to. I understand Sony's position and they pretty much to cut the price to stay competitive. Fine. I just want games. Â

Version 9 did that. By virtue of it being 9, I'm going to go ahead and say that it too, probably wasn't released 18 months after launch.Â
Considering I got my 60gig for $540 3 weeks after launch, I'd be cool with a price drop and gettin more PS3 users.
(in case you're wondering I got it from target and took out their Target Card which gets you 10% off your first purchase.)Â

Awesome.
I tried the same thing at a local Toys R Us. The sales clerk was wearing a sign on her shirt that said, "Ask me how to get 10% off"
So I did, and of course, I had to sign up for a Toys R Us credit card and whole shabang, and when I finished, she told me, "Oh by the way. That doesn't apply to hardware purchases."
I was about ready to leap over the counter and strangle her.
Instead, we spent some more time destroying and cancelling my application and I ended up charging it to the Amex instead. (airplane miles are better than nothing I guess)Â
Yes, why shouldn't it. There is no need for a price drop 6 months into a console's life, it just shows insecurity. I can't understand why anyone would say no.dru26
they've also taken a bunch of steps to help reduce the manufacturing costs of the ps3. thats why i can say that it doesn't bother me. Removal of the emotion engine and the new chip will drop costs which means you can then sell for lower. Albeit, they should have done that from the start if they were planning on it, but hey, to hit the holiday season sometimes you cant do that.
That's just my take on it though, you're certainly entitled to your opinion as well.

I see where your comming from, but do you not think that Sony is indeed feeling a bit insecure right now? After the not so good sales report, they need to do something to stay competitive. I don't mind them cutting the price, as long as more people buy the consoles, then I am fine.
Please, for the love of god, lower the price, come out with a better SKU (just as long as mine still has FULL functionality), sell your souls to dark lord... just get more of the market share, please. I've had my PS3 for two days now, and it's the cat's pajamas, no doubt, but I can't stand how crappy our available games are.
Â
I didn't really enjoy Resistance all that much (hence me being on the forums), and MotoStorm was only one player in house (what's up with that?). (Yes, I know that I'm using a lot of parentheses).
Get more market share, come out with some fun games (yes, Lair look awesome... but I bet it still only scores in the 8.4 range), and make my system worth while.
Oh yeah, the hardware itself is freakin rock solid, super well made, a great value, and an HD movie player to boot. Honestly, I feel like I bought something worth as much as my new Samsung LN-T4066f, I just wish I had fun stuff to do with it. Aside from watching Blu-Ray movies and playing Flow.

I'll accepted sony would a price drop on PS3 cause cut the chip in the PS3. Sony tried to cut price on the system that risk strategy.
Sony want reduce cost and reduce heat on the PS3 system. Sony take Emotion Engine Chip and reduce 90nm to 65nm cell chip in PS3. Sony discontinue PS3 20gb system.
Â
Even though I just bought mine about a week ago, it really wouldn't bother me at all. If I'd really cared that much about waiting for a price drop, I would have done so. I'd actually be happy because Sony NEEDS to drop the price at this point. They need to do whatever they can to increase sales so that maybe people will actually start making decent games for the damn thing.
