Strolling through the mean streets of eBay, I came across an 80gb (with b/c) going for only $300 as a "Buy it now" price on it with free shipping! Is that a legit deal or do you guys feel something might be fishy? Is a $300 price tag on that particular model a steal or ripoff?

American or Australian? In Australia... its a pretty good deal. For American dollars that sounds expensive.

yeah if its in american def since the new slim costs 300 an older model should def be cheaper. on ebay i wouldnt buy one for more than 200 actually. It sounds like the seller is trying to sell that ps3 and go get a slim. So instead of giving them that money just go get a slim.

Is it ps2 backward compatible? If so then $300 is pretty good. I got a motorstorm 80gb bundle for $265 off Amazon a few months ago and it's running fine. Just about to install firmware 3.15

for $300 you can buy a new 120 gig, but if the BC is what you want then 300 might not be a bad price. Personaly i wouln't buy it.

I'd rather get a slim for $300 and a used PS2 for $40 at Gamestop.

It's the model with backwards compatibility. Yes, it's in need only because I need to replay Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner and MGS1 which I've owned brand new sealed and have not opened. Can this model even play those games? I hear it can only play a few.

it has limited backwards compatibility. Most games work but some dont or have issues running.

Backwards compatibility or not... the Slim is the way to go at this point. This isn't 1996 or even 2000/2001, this is practically 2010. Live in the now.

As far as MGS1 goes, all PS3's play PS1 games.

**UPDATE** The PS3 came in and had a damaged Blue Ray Player. Games worked fine but could not read movies, I've tried Spider Man 3 and Dark Knight, both unread. Anyhoo, I returned it and will be buying a brand new Slim 120gb tomorrow. Note for my fellow future potential PS3 owners, NEVER BUY FROM EBAY REGARDLESS IF THEY HAVE 334534 RATING AT %100. Take it from me, I learned. Look forward to my NEW Slim tomorrow! :)

Backwards compatible, depends what the model number is. Check Playstation.com, and you will find a list of every model number and if it is backwards compatible. I dont think 80 gb is, I have one and its not.
