ok, ive posted about my ps3's noise already, and ive decided to check with sony to see if i can return it. i know that there are a number of persons who have suffered from excessive fan noise from 40gb ps3s and i am sadly one of them.

i have 2 videos showing my misfortune.

video 1 (new & crazy loud)

video 2

is this enough to guarantee a replacement from sony? and would you recommend replacing it? ive heard of persons returning their 40gb and getting a replacement louder/just as loud as before. so im afraid it might be wasted effort, and i might come out worse off than before. advice?

im especially interested in replacing it so that i can sell it and purchase the MGS 80gb bundle and MGS Essential Collection by the middle of June. (lol, i cant imagine selling a 'defective' ps3 to someone... thats just wrong)

Your 2nd video doesn't sound that bad. My PS3's fans usually turn on a bit while I am playing games, any games that have amazing graphics really.

But your first video, the fans went very loud. I don't think that is normal.

Plus vid cams pick up bad background noise and sound horrid. Like when I record a guitar threw a small cam. It sounds icky scratchy high! Like so

believe me, their was not that much noise in that room, but it sounds horrid. I mean look at any youtube home vid. You hear air noise.

i will call in a few hours time and explain everything, and hopefully i wont get a disappointing response.

does anyone have any experience like this (returning or fan noise)? friends or family? because im afraid ill get one just as loud, and dont want to waste time (ive heard of a few cases like that)

Nice guitar though. It happens to me when I record too.

I have a Roland amp though, and there is an option called Power Squeezer. It lowers the volume but keeps the same distortion as if the amp was loud. It's perfect for recording stuff into a camera or a headset mic. Much better than my other amps, I couldn't get any distortion sound cause I had to turn my amp down so much so the mic wouldn't overload. What kind of effect did you use? Sounded like a pedal (wammy bar? I couldn't see it really)... but that could have just been bends (not the best audio quality). I can get that r-fier sound on my amp perfectly... heavy metal sound.

Wow, I thought mine was loud, mine gets to how urs is in the first video at the 45 sex mark, but after hours and hours of play... I am sorry, but I am sure they will replace it, but I'd hurry up so you get it back in time for mgs4. Good Luck friend

That defnitley does not sound normal, sounds like a vacum cleaner is on in the first vid. I have a 40Gb for 4 months and have onlt freezed once on COD4 muti. I would send it back to sony, how long have you had it for?, and was it always loud?, good luck bro.

I can vouch for this, as mine sounded like a freakin' jet taking off. I am very comfortable with audible volume of my PS3.

ive had it since christmas. it was a hot day when in the first vid, so i suspect that has something to do with it. and it was always loud, not as loud as in the first vid, but from day one i realized it was quite loud... but with COD4, i couldnt part ways with it.
