Great games doesn't need good stories. Gameplay mostly make up for it.

Gameplay for sure. I've played games with so-so stories, predicatble plots, or just stories i already know (like any movie-based game), but if the game was fun to play, then it's worth playing, imo.

I need both. But like most everyone else, gameplay ends up being more important.

IMO a good storyline can be ruined by horrible gameplay. trying to think of an example cuz i know i have fallen victim to this but i cant pull a title out my head atm.

Obviously a good mix of both is nice but gameplay is more important because without good gameplay then the game is boring/poor to play. I do love a good story though.

Agreed. The greatest story in the world is worthless without good gameplay, whereas a terrible story but awesome gameplay can still make me want to play the game. I cite pretty much every FPS game ever as proof.

Id say its either one or the other

like a game can have a great story but gameplay is horrible (FF13, FF8,)

or a game can be really fun to play but the story is horrible (katamari, Mario, Sonic,)

or just games like FF10 that have both

and Metal Gears, and Devil May Crys

Of course its best when there is a perfect blend of the 2, but gameplay is more important imo.

I play primary Rpg, Sport and a occasional Racing titles so for me personally - Gameplay is very important. Great story is a foundation of every memorable and great Rpg game so obviously it's crucial as well. Depends on a genre, for me however, am leaning toward gameplay but story remains important.
