And in some cases higher !
I just rearlised why are games so expensive comapred to any other kind of media ( eg DVD ) surely a movie can cost, in some cases more than a game does, so why are games so expensive to buy ??!?!?!?

First thing comparing a movie to a game is rediculous. Game prices have not moved much in the last 20 years. I remember NES and SNES games were $50.00 and up.
a lot of times, especially in the PS3's case, money is lost on hardware sales (the PS3 is worth a lot more than 600 dollars), so the software prices are jacked up to compensate

I think games are dirt cheap compared to movies. A movie often cost 15++ bucks for maybe two hours of entertainment. That's extremely expensive compared to games. Most games easily gives you 20+ hours of fun.
Simple. How many people listen to music? How many people watch movies? Now how many people play videogames? It's mostly just about return versus potential install base. Everybody owns a CD or DVD player (Well, everyone who doesn't smell like patculli, anyway) but there aren't nearly that many people playing videogames.

Movies also bring in money prior to it going to disk, they make money off of movies in theatres before they even get to the DVD. It's really not fair to compare the two.
No. It's because movies make money when they are released in theatres. Movies can make hundreds of millions of dollars before the DVD is even released. The only way games make money is from selling the actual discs. Plus, we are used to paying that much. Studios would love to sell DVDs for $60, but no one would buy them.bored88
I have enough problem paying $20, or even $15, for a damn movie - Here's a hint - I don't.
But that brings up another point. Movies rake in money at the box-office (in theory). Musicians make most of their money from touring and selling merchandise. Games, also, don't really have another influx of income, so unless we all start buying up shirts that say "I Beat God of War on God and All I Got was This Lousy T-Shirt" and hats emblazoned with the Square-Enix logo and a little moogle on the side, prices on games will remain the same.
Hell, they'll even stay where they are now, just because people will buy them. Most games have 10-onehundredthousandmillion hours of replay value, typically, so it's a good deal if you ask me.
it is because the new forms of disc, Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray dvds cost generally $10 more than regular dvds. The People at Microsoft are just cheap having you pay $10 more for a regular dvd for a game, because the wii's regular dvd discs still cost $50danthegardner99very true, theres no reason we should be paying 60$ for 360 games.when they are on an old format now.

You're joking right?
Are you saying why are games more money then dvds? You watch a movie once for about 2 hours then put it aside. You buy a game it will last you more then 6 times the movie did, PLUS if the game has online you the game will last you even longer, and you actually get to play through it instead of just watching it. I concur. PS3 and 360 games shouldn't cost 60 bucks, and Wii and PS2 games shouldn't cost 50 bucks anymore either.
The same work (sometimes more) goes into making a quality game that goes into making a film. The costs of making a game are quickly rising and the only way a company can make back that money is if they sell a game. Trouble is, more people go to and rent movies than play games, so the companies have to catch that lost revenue by upping the price. Also, just like with any household product, part of the cost comes from additionalbrand and license fees, while on some games, even more money can be tied to advertisement.
There's a lot more to it than just pricing them $60. You have to think of supply and demand. Also, you have to think of how much it cost and the amount of time it takes to produce and make these games. DVDs are just disc being made from a movie somebody created. It takes more time, money, technology to make these games in just about every case. And you can't forget blu-ray movies cost $30.00, when for $60.00 I will use the videogame 5x more.
