According to you, what are reviews exactly?

The fact that you actually look at the GS reviews is pretty sad. It is common knowledge that there hasn't been a true review around here since November 13 2007, and if you don't know what that date is, look it up. I don't care if GS gives a game a 10 or a 1 because I have played many 9.5 games that should be 6 and many 6.0 games that should be 8.0. _Pinbot_

I never quite understood reviews.... I think we are all accostomed to games getting 8's and 9's that we expect it. And then when we see a game we find that we like even more we demand it gets a 10. A 10 is a perfect score so why could anything deserve that, especially when its not even been released? Because your a fanboy doesen't mean a game deserves or should get a high score, they have to earn it. And on top of that, I am sick of every game being released today getting a 8 or a 9. 8's and 9's means a game is great, well i'll have to say as a whole gaming is starting to become dumbed down, and more about graphics, less about content. Lets just look at your example of GTA4. More flash, less susbstance, so why in gods name does this game score so high? It should be a good rated game, not a great because it takes steps backward, not forward. I think reviewers are responsible for this upwards scaling of review scores. Half of them are so afraid to give games what they truly deserve that they up the points. I can't wait for a game that is actuly just okay to get a 5, instead of a 7, because that day is the day that reviews actually work.Sigleaf

This is why I like Kotaku's reviews so much:

1. Description of the game
2. (What the reviewer) Loved
3. (What the reviewer) Hated
4. Conclusion
5. Period!

No damn scores for fanboys to argue about.

I personally think that's the example to follow. Too many people rely too much on those alpha-numerical scores.

No game should ever receive a 10. No game is that good. Certain aspects can receive a 10 for the quality at the time the game came out (for example: When crysis was released it was the best graphics we'd seen thus far). For a game to achieve a perfect 10 it had better be the epitomy of greatness.

Oh, and your list of games that shoulda been really sucks.

Ok, first of all. How can you say that two games that haven't even been released yet deserves 10/10. That's just plain stupid. No game deserves a score based on their name or hype.

Second of all. The review score of a game is never a fact. Everyone has different opinions and different reviewers gives different scores. that why you should always look at more than one review of a game you're considering to buy.

No game on any console this generation has deserved a 10 in my opinion.

The last game I felt truly deserved a 10 was when Street Fighter II : Championship Edition was released on the Sega Megadrive. That game was perfect at the time of release.

Since then, I've seen some 9's and even 9.5's, but no deserving 10's IMO.

If you, TC, think one game or another deserves a 10, you should review it or blog about it. That is why such features do exist.

It's sad that we, as gamespotters, have to endure people's bursts of emotion on forums where they don't belong.

Sorry, but none of those deserve a 10. However, Bioshock should have gotten a 9.5.

By the way, you can't judge a game before it is released (i.e. RE5 and GoW3). Even though they will undoubtedly be good, you can't judge them until their release.
