What makes me mad about this is that they wont let you return a game after its been unwrapped, but they have no problem rewrapping the s o b and selling it to you after they played it! thats BS

EB has always sucked. I dislike them more than ever since I've noticed they've been trying to make ppl pre-order everything. It's as if the store orders 2 copies for everyone who didn't pre-order. It's shifty and I don't like it. I don't shop there anymore.

And all the EB's in my city aren't even any good. By that I mean they don't sell alot of the accesories I would expect from an "electronics boutique." The name dosen't add up to what the store sells at all.

Why shop there when I can go to Best Buy or Wal Mart and getEVERYTHING I need, and not have to deal with sketchy opened "last copies?"

And if I'm paying $60 or $70 for a game I'mgoing to be the one to pop its cherry. I don't buy opened copies. Period.

Dude, dont be fooled Gamestop WILL sell you the game without the wraper for being new. New? I dont think so.

I don't care if it's used. As long as it runs it's fine with me.

Yes, I agree, however, if they market it as new, but is used, then that is lying and unethical business practice, second, if they sell it as used, you should be getting it for at least 10% or more off.

plus someone played the game for free bascially stole the game. i don't understand why they don't just put a print ouf of the game on the rack why do they have to use the actual box its stupid and makes no sense unless its just so they can do stuff like this.

i think gamestop should be taken down for there used policy which is much more damaging to the industry then piracy. im not one to side with publisher most of the time but this time im with them because gamestop is cheating everyone on this. person selling the game is getting riped, person buying the game is getting ripped off, and the developer and publishers are getting ripped off because they don't see a dime from used sales. i hope this opens up some doors gamestop needs to be taken down for a lot of reasons.

I have had them do this to me on several occasions. I hate to buy from gamestop because of it when I buy a new game I want to be the one to open it from its wrappings. Also that stupid sticker they "have" to put on it to make it "new" again is stupid and makes a huge sticky mess. I hope that something gets done about it because it is illegal and they should be punished.

Doesn't surprise me, I think I've only bought 3 or 4 games there. I either buy mine at Wal-Mart (I live in a rural area, the only place to get games within miles), Best Buy, or Game Xchange (both of these are 50 miles away, but I make it there at least once a month, Game Xchange is a used game store but I like the employees there). The last games I bought as Gamestop was Odin Sphere for 20 and Soul Calibur 3 for 10.

This has happened to me before. I bought a new game and they gave me one that wasn't in the wrapping. I didn't think it was used though so I took it home, but when I played it the game kept freezing at the same spot so I took it back and they gave me a new one this time.

That's why I never buy new games at Gamestop. I only shop there when I want a really (REALLY) old game and I can't find it anywhere else. The heavens should strike me down with lightning if I ever buy a new game there.:P

My store doesn't allow this. Also, ask for a wrapped copy.

Also, inb4OMGYOUWORKATGAMESTOPYOUSUCK

My job is fun, granted it doesn't pay well...but it's a videogame job. Screw it. Not everyone that works at GameStop is a douche.

Well everyone still goes there???

They throw ps3 boxes around, they treat ps3 games like crap. They open mostly all games. Emloyees take home games and bring them back and sell them as new.

Employees have bashed the ps3 to customers, spread false rumors, and steered many ps3 buyers away to the 360.

Not to mention they clearly rip off children whose parents spend a lot of money on video games and have no idea of the rip off given back to their childen.

Not to mention the push to pre order games while you hand over your money with out anything in return. Games just do not sell out on this day and age guys!!!!

Even if it's sealed you have to double check to see if it's factory sealed.

I've specifically requested sealed copies when I go to Ebgames/Gamestop, and sometimes they say it's sealed but really it's just a cheapo shirnkwrap-like seal that they do in the back.

Not buying there if I can help it, I always make sure to check other stores before picking a copy up there.

Yeah, but I have credit at GameStop. :>

Okay, so you a manager at Gamestop, am I right?.... Gamestop needs to be shut down once and for all.

How does having store credit at Gamestop imply that he is a store manager at Gamestop? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

i personally know almost all Gamestop Policies My wife works there. yes display copies r gutted its that or they put all the games in locked cages like many retailers do then u would have to ask for assistance just to look at the back of the game. There is also 1 gutted copy usually and its the last one sold. They also are not allowed to check out new copies of the game till the game has been out for 3-4 months if at all. Checking out used copies there must be 2 or more in the store to check it out. Its a used copy and we have to be extra care full with these games.. Now with that said i agree they should never sell a "used" copy aka gutted copy as new. But i also see the side of gamestop gutting to prevent theft. Otherwise u could walk in grab 5 games and just run out the door since its what 10 steps to the door usually.. I personally like gamestop i buy 80% of my games used. i also enjoy getting money back for my used games. Since i dont really like using Ebay. So all u people who dont like gamestop that is your personal preference but with the revenue that company made u are all in the minority.

I dont care as long as the case looks great the cd has no scratches/or smuges and the biggie it works then im all good i mean i love gamestop where else can you find great games for some low prices alot of the times(i mean Valkyria Chronicles $30 bucks were cheating them lol)

NuKkU
It's the fact that they are charging you for a new game and giving you a used one that pisses me off, if it works, sure it's fine, but they're not giving me a deal or anything, I'm paying just as much as I would for a new copy so why wouldn't I take the new copy over a used one?

Ummmm...I don't bash the PS3 at all and I work at GameStop. I always suggest the PS3 to people that have the TV to really use the Blu-Ray. If you don't have an HDTV, I always say go for the 360 because it has a bigger library of games, and it's cheaper.

I have both and don't really do the whole fanboy thing. Like I said in my previous post, not everyone that works at GameStop is a douche. Also, my store doesn't just let little kids come and trade their games, most of the time we ask for their parents...Then we tell the parents, and you know what they do? THEY ASK THE KIDS ANYWAY. Most parents don't give a crap as long as it makes the child happy. Having kids costs alot of money, bottom line.

Also, you're wrong about game NOT selling out. Street Fighter 4 Collector's Edition was pretty much PRE-ORDER ONLY, Fallout 3 sold out for awhile, Gears 2 did as well. Reserving Collector's Editions is great, regular games, eh, maybe. Oh, and we don't toss around cases/boxes either.

i never buy from them anymore because they're cheats. I offered them $700 worth of wii crap 2 years ago when the wii was pretty new and they were giving me $220 for everything and then they sell everything i gave to them for $600. Yeah it's how their company runs but they can't be that cheap can they?

The only reason they gut the games is to get the cases out on the shop floor when they only have a couple left in stock. In that sense, selling it as new is fine. It's not like it's been used at all. Or maybe I misconstrued what you meant.

I hear ya but, don't you think there is a better option of preventing theft rather than gutting copies? Like buying empty cases and putting a photocopy of the cover out there? Or how about pick up slips like Toys R Us used to do. I do shop there but I only buy games from them on release day or the buy 2 used get one free days.

Ask yourself, how many items do you pay full price for after having been removed from it's original packaging? For me its not a metter of being physically used but once it's opened it's used period.

Then you have a very high standard. I'm not bothered if it's had the cellophane removed, so long as it's still unused in the literal sense. I do see your point though. I guess we expect stuff to still be 100% sealed, but never mind. Having worked in a video games store, maybe I'm a tad less picky about these things.

If your ok with it thats all that matters. I might have high standards but, I just can't bring myself to pay full price for something opened. Don't get me started on those paper sleeves, LOL.

I read this on the Starmen.net forums and yeah it ticked me off a lot. I don't care if it's been played for only a while. You sell it as used because it's used. If you're selling it as new there had better be some plastic wrap on that ****

This is for the few gamestop employees that have posted on this topic:

Why doesn't gamestop invest in the clear plastic anti-theft protective cover that Best-buy, and the now gone circuit-city, use to show off their video-games. True it may cost them money, but not by much, since they wouldn't house all of their copies on the shelves. This would also not require them to gut their copies. Could it be that they liek gutting their copies to give employees a perk of working there? I understand you want a knowledgeable staff, especially ones who have played the games, to be advising you. So why can't the copy lend out one new copy to staff, or 2 copies, to staff per store and then sell those copies as used, as they should be? My opinion is that this would make it all legit, and easier to trust gamestop.

I have shopped there, and for the most part I like going to a shop that is all about videogames. Bestbuy has a good selection, and sometimes you encounter a knowledgaeble staff working in that section, but not always. I usually frequent 3 gamestops where I know or have come to some sort of acquaintence with the staff, so they always sell me new, as in factory sealed, games, since I refuse to take an open "new" copy. However I have gone to other gamestops where they refused to give me a new copy, and insisted in me buying the gutted "new" copy. Usually I get manager saying it is new, but he understands, to the more rude people stating that it is new, and sarcastically saying that they will shrink wrap the copy so I can open the plastic. Staff like that do not deserve my money, and I always walk away. Shopping in any store you need to exercise your rights as a consumer, and just refuse to take those copies, and insist on new copies. If they won't budge, just leave the store.

Sorry for long post, but wanted to know the answers, and share some personal experiences.

I have always hated Gamestop, they rip people off all the time. Bestbuy is my fav. How can they give you 15 bucks for a game and turn around and sell it for 45( rip off ). I never go there.

Just like wal-mart selling used systems as new, it's like one of those unspoken things in the retail world. I bought my PS3 for a brand new price and it already had scratches and user information stored on it.

Also another shady thing is that this kid came into my gamestop with 5 sixx axis controllers, clearly stolen, and they allowed him to trade them in then sold one to me for $30 dollars before they put them in the inventory. My friend is the manager and it turns out they just split the money 0.o

...Hmmmm, this seems kind of odd... Maybe it's just US stores that have this problem? The Gamestop where I live, I've never seen them sell me or anyone else an opened game as "new" or even re-shrink wrapped as "new". Anytime you want to buy a game we go to the counter say the game, they open a drawer and the game is right there with the security seal and microsoft logo on it for 360 games, and the perfect plastic wrapping around it for PC and PS3... :S Personally I think it's the consumer's fault. If you go to buy a new game and they give you a game that looks like it's been opened- Say you want another one? It's simple as that.
