Getting a PS3 in 4 days , could someone tell me a lil something about ...

installation of games ? I mean , before you can start playing a new game , is it necessary to install it into your PS3 ? I hear it has something to do with load times , but I'd appreciate it if someone could elaborate for me .

Only a few games require installation, most of which only take a few minutes. It doesn't install the whole game only some files to supposedly speed up loading.

If you have the option of installing, take it. The time spent installing is worth the decrease in load times.

Some games do have installs and some games have patches. Both take quite a while to finish what they're doing.

If installing becomes an issue, I know it was for me with my 40gb, then get a bigger drive. I got a 320gb a few months back. Although you have to backup anything on you HDD before you remove it or you can kiss all your saved data goodbye. It formats when you take the HDD out. Learned that the hard way. But, I would have lost all that anyways because my PS3 died after 13 months. Freak thing I know, but MS isnt the only company that can have hardware issues. I would advise buying the protection plan from the store you are making the purchase if it is available. It may be worth it just in case.
