I severely doubt the ability for Vibration (with SixAxis) for this unless another third party will be developing the hardware. On top of that, I'm not so sure the implications of fees/royalties to be paid for vibration/force feedback.

Yes, the infraction prior has been settled, but wouldn't a continued royalty/fee be required for any technology used in the SixAxis in terms of feedback (at least similar to what the DualShock has done)? I may be lacking on this subject. I am pulling mainly from what I recall hearing awhile ago.

Yeah, Earth to Mod, Immersion and Sony settled and are working together to make products for the Playstation brand.

No need to be snide there. I was merely expressing my concern for the costs of re-instating that kind of technology as it was dropped before.

My apologies, your post I was responding to made it seem you did not know the information about the Sony/Immersion settlement.

The costs would be on PS3 owners having to get new Controllers so they can have rumble, me personally i'm not bothered i never found rumble to be that important there were one or two games that it worked ok for, i would only get the new controller  if rumble was a requirement for the game to function other than that i'll stick with the sixaxis as it is.

Sony has already agreed to pay immersion 25 million over the next 3 years to license their technology. It will most certainly happen. In an interview with IGN, when cornered about the "But rumble isn't compatible with motion", chrome dome responded with "well what did you want me to say?? We were in a lawsuit!"

We have to remember that there is a lot of time between now and when GOW3 comes out so by then there will be a first as well as many thrid party controllers with rumble.

well, they entered into a business deal. Nobody knows if Sony would have to pay royalties for using the force feedback. My assumptions would be that Sony would have to pay royalties.

Yes! I remember it clearly. I was at a local game store and they had a test system set up with Medal of Honor and a rumble controller......I walked up to one of the stationary guns and let loose. I was sold right then and there. I then picked up a controller and played the hell out of Gran Turismo. Thanks for the memories dude.

Obviously you don't remember all the MGS games in Sniper Mode. Rumble is an important feature in a controller and I think the few games that really make the Playstation brand the best - will suffer a little without it. (GTA, FF, GOW, and of course MGS)

That's not true. Just because the resolution is higher doesn't mean they have to sacrifice graphics. Just look at LAIR 1080p and the graphics in that game are stunning. Although for a game like this I would prefer 720p, but they can do it well in 1080p as well.

why don't we let the developers worry about how to make the game look amazing. I highly doubt they'll sacrifice any of their stunning vision of their visual skillz. As for rumble, if it's not required, I'm not going to buy it, I do, however, hope that developers release patches for their old games to incorporate rumble when we do get the controllers.

Looks like they will be introducing a new character along side Kratos, because we can't have to kratos running around now can we. Maybe to characters outside of Kratos and he becomes the bad guy. Who knows.

The settlement allows Sony to use vibration functions through 2009, and lets it have holding on some of the technology too. Also, it wont cost Sony a too much more money to include the vibration function with the controllers.

Oh my god... We WILL NOT be getting vibration. Are you that gullible? Sony did not confirm it, we aren't getting it. Even from a long while. Stop speculating like its pure fact. Damn! Vibration is probably the littlest feature, and its annoying. It's like missing a button. OMFG what am I going to do without the Triangle?! 1up really needs to put its hand in its mouth.

Sony did the settlement with Immersion so I don't see why we won't get it. Remember the days of PS1 when they brought out the dualshock with both analog sticks? People went out to buy it anyways. They could still bring it out, hopefully they do it with a special edition Boomerang controller too :D

but that was different than now. Sony has stated many times that rumble is "last-gen". Now they are going to add it? How will that make Sony look?

Well if they bring it back they'll bring it with new Rumble technology better than last-gen. So if they bring it back they could just say we've brought rumble back, with better technology which is appropriate for the next-generation. Or something like that.

It would have been better if they had went with SplitFish's rumble technology. That way, the controller would not weight that much. Immersion uses motors for rumble. SplitFish didn't. SplitFish is next-gen.

In most cases, in games where there is much going on on screen, 1080P will have developers tune down textures, framerate, etc. most developers will say that 720P is the hotspot. Most people get excited like little kids when they here a game will be in 1080p. Just because it is more than 720P.... most gamers don't even have a screen that displays it..... we'll still have to wait and see what Lair delivers when it comes out....

The new rumble technology is actually supposed to be much better. The one thing I want it for is Star wars, It's a light, almost un-noticable buzz when your saber is on, then it gets sharper when the blade makes contact with something. It's adjustable rumble, which is awesome, unlike the monotone sharp jolt that you get from the old stuff whether you're falling ten stories or shooting a pistol. That's why I don't like rumble, in the traditional sense, everything has the same feel. Note: the star wars reference was a rumor I've heard, so feel free to correct me if you know something I don't. And I will only support rumble on the PS3 if they get the Devs to patch the old games.

That's what I'm talkin' about. Why wouldn't God of War 3 have similar scaled things runnin' around? Hell big colossus type enemies might wind up being a more common opponent Kratos will fight, with several trying to attack him at once...

PS3 cas surely handle double the processing power of 1080p Let me tell you I aint no kid I have a 40" 1080p Sony Bravia which can upconvert 720p graphics to 1080i anyway so its not a big deal to me if you want to insist on 720p as the standard cause the graphics and rez still pop. But let me tell you the "hotspot" for gaming is definately 1080p I notice the difference between my games running at 720p / 1080i and 1080p is smooth as silk and just blow me away its insane.

I'm more excited about the SixAxis capabilities than the rumble feature.

"Tilt left to rip head off Minotaur"

"Tilt right to eat Harpies' brains"

lol, they'll probably implement it into that game's "in-bed" minigame, if you know what I mean.

consider the blu-ray disc, they will undoubtedly be able to make GODIII HUGE!!! this was one thing that made me mad about GTAIV, Is that instead of making the maps even larger (what they might have done for just ps3 if it was exclusive) they make both console versions the same and use the extra space on ps3 for (most-likely) the soundtrack.
