^^^ Just like he said, as far as we know, it is the same gimped PS3 with a larger HDD. If it was the BC 80gb like we have now, then that would be a very good move.
Oh come on I wanted my backwards compatibility. Either way, I might as well accept I will never get it so buy a backup PS2 and the PS3.mohmaaytah
Or do like I did; go online & buy a 60 GB PS3 instead.
still a good deal. It comes with DS3.[QUOTE="WhyuStillAlive"][QUOTE="emitsu97"]It's the 40GB system with an 80GB HDD.choffy
You sure about that? I doubt it does
I am sure it will include DS3. the reason current 40GB never had one because that bundle was released before the DS3 was out. DS3 was first out with the MGS4 bundle, now that the 40GB will replaced with a 80GB hard drive then it makes sense to add the DS3 to the new package. it's also likely that the remaining 40GB will be sold for $350 at local stores... idk it's a possibestillalive guy did you watch the e3 show of sony, I ques you didn't. the guy there did said nothing about including a dualshock3 controller. He didn't even ones said "dualshock 3" in the whole show. melvinvthI did watch it, just because he didn't mention DS3 doesn't mean it there isn't a possibilty that it will be in the bundle. DS3 wasn't included in a bundle until MGS4 was released last month.

I was just looking at them on Amazon, rather overpriced... Still, I might just go down for one.

The only 60 GB you'll ever find are all used.
best just get a PS2, cheaper and guaranteed.

You think it comes with a ds3, but you said other wise in your previous post. Theres always a change the ds3 can be included but nobody said so.
Okay it would be smart move if they include a DS3, that would be a much better deal for the consumer. so tell me what would you like better a price cut of the current 40GB model or an extra 40GB for the same price?but what happens to the ppl who only just brought a 40GB?Phantsy16
From September only one 80 GB SKU worldwide and no more BC , is that the deal ??Caseytappy
That's my understanding of it after reading the full press release: http://kotaku.com/5025521/400-80-gb-ps3-announced
"Starting in September 2008, the newly announced PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) 80GB model will become the mainstay of the company's hardware line-up. The 80GB model will retail for $399, and will offer all of the features and functionality of the 40GB model with double the storage "
Edit: stupid glitch that deletes my post text. Fixed.

Im my experience ps2s look rubbish on an HDTV,the ps3 with b/c upscales pretty well but still has noticeable texture shimmering in some games, needs better anti aliasing.

That's what I mean; all 60 GB PS3's are used. I already gotten the 60 GB PS3 from gamestop online a few months ago (Back in April, I believe). Lucky me. Should it ever die out, I can easily send it to Sony for a replacement, or for it to be fixed.:)

Don't fret. This is basically the same console you got, just with more space and a DS3 controller. It's not the "real" 80GB model.

Yes I know, it just the 40HDD but with 80GB now.
Is this new bundle worth it? Should I wait to get one or just buy a ps3 asap? I want to know whats the big deal with Sixacis and is 40 GIG HD enough for the PS3 because I heard from a friend that he is running out of storage with his 40 GIG?Fingerella69er
I would hold off for a lil just to see what will be included and any difference in specs... plus the HDD is upgradeable

etheir way DS3 or no DS3 80GB HDD >>> 40GB HDD and the price stays the same, the DS3 HAS to be included! I mean who wants the regular old sixaxis now? I doubt sony will continue to make old sixaxis controller just for this 80Gig model.Yeah you would have waited 2 months? If you got your ps3 now just enjoy it.I'm almost pissed at this announcement... I heard that Sony had denied any price cuts, so I went ahead and bought a $400 40GB... and now I'm finding out I could have bought twice as much memort for the same price if I had waited? Damn...

Eh, I guess. Waiting two months would have sucked indeed.
[QUOTE="criinok"]every PS3 plays PS1 games[QUOTE="WhyuStillAlive"][QUOTE="PSP107"]the 40 GB doesnt play PS1 Games?plg2307
No they... Don't?
40GB doesn't, the rest do.
Every PS3 works with ps1 titles, just not the ps2 (40gb and now the new 80gb)
OH, I misread that, I was thinking PS2 =P
Sorry bud

It's not like BC, which is impossible to put back in.
