Secondly, Dille said the new 80GB will have the "exact same functionality as the 40GB model," and will essentially be the same console with a larger hard drive. That means that once the current 80GB PS3s sell out, no new Sony consoles will have backwards compatibility with PS2 and PSone games.

Are u sure?

I was pissed about this at first, since i got a 40 gig a few weeks back. But since this new model doesnt have BC either, it doesnt seem like nearly as much of a loss. If i run out of memory, i'll just buy a bigger harddrive.

Meh, I guess the savings would cover the cost of getting a ps2.

You people do realise that they STOPPED production of the Sixaxis Controller.

So yes all the new SKU's will have DS3 Standard, as it is now there Standard Controller.

actually the system data takes only 6gb of space. The console will say 74 G free.

This upgrade remains useless for me, I would rather have the 40GB at $299 since I plan to stick my own 250GB drive there. At 299 they will be selling by the truckload though I cant guess how much money Sony will lose, if at all.

The point is, the way i ssee it, it's simply an upgrade because 80Gb harddrive now doesn't cost them more than the 40Gb... So why not phasing out the 40Gb and switching to 80

Yeah, but it doesn't help if the attachment rate is too low to overcome the difference in price.

GTA 4 attachment rate was better on PS3. Imagine if sony had sold more PS3s.
