Gran Turismo used to be awesome back in the day. I got it in the mail today and have never been so dissapointed in my life. Graphics are great but loading times and gameplay gets boring fast. It should have gotten a 3 instead of an 8.5 . Complete utter junk! Also, what's with the picture backgrounds that arent even real? Terrible developers!!! PS3 deserves a better racer than this stuff.

It does have great graphics and sound. Very true! It's sad because it has so much potential. I'm from the ps1 days and GT5 can't hold a candle to the good oldies that Playstation had back then with GT1 and 2.

GT3 was the best imo but its so hard to improve upon an almost perfect game. The controls are perfect so the only facit of the game that really can be improved upon are the graphics. The game sold over 6 million copies so obviously there are people who bought the game but you can't always please everyone.

lol... the thing I love about the GT series is the replay value. It's not some game where you can put in 20 hours and have the game be over. There is so much you can do in GT5, its not even funny. I don't think its even possible to get 100% in the game but if I want that platinum, I need to put in at least 400+ hours. :P

If I had a racing wheel with petals, shifter and all that good stuff I could probably get into racing games. But as they are, they're pretty bland to me.

GT5 is more of the same; the only thing that's really improved upon is the graphics. And I don't really understand how someone can say that GT5 sucks or that it deserves a 3, when it's not too far off from GT3 and 4. Sure, you can be disappointed in the sense that you expected more of the new and less of the old, but really, how can you go as far to say that it's a bad game? Also, there's no way that GT1 and 2 are better than GT5. They were great for their time, but they are so outdated now that a comparison shouldn't be made. Hell, even GT3 greatly triumphs over GT1 and 2.

Your right about that. I actually meant to include GT3. MY bad. I guess after spending more time with it I'm just dissapointed that you can't spin around the car with the cam. Also, those cheap generic ps2 looking cars that yu start with look horrid. Maybe I shouldn't have played Forza 3 before. It does have a better interior view but the cars look a little far away on any setting. Is there a way to add custom music? I seen the music tab but don't see nothing I care for.

Yes, you can add custom music for either the menus and races.

yea, youd think that with all the time they spent devloping the game all the cars would look tip top. the one thing i always wanted to see improved in the gt games was the ai. its remained pretty bland. the AI cars have no personalty so to speak. its so old school. ypou have a few cars that are slow, a few that are med and a few that are fast then you have one guy that is a super skilled driver. also id like to see a better layed out single player campaign or season. name the AI drivers and keep them in the seasons like in other raceing sims like the Forumla 1 and nascar games.

very true.in fact i have shared it for f1 2010.cuz we can break at 350km/h to take on corners in race.gt5 is a total garbage with the classification races and races events.trophy system is boring.plus we can custom track but we racing it and the other car in front are 3 laps ahead of you and if you are first? you don't even get credits.total waste of time

The biggest flaws in the game are:

1) only 200 REAL cars. Dont give me the 'well it has 1000 cars!!!' bullcrap. Those 800 cars are all GT4 models that look like crap...No cockpit views either? A disgrace to gaming. I thought the 200 premium would be KING of the crop cars and the other 800 were still going to be gorgeous, but not fully accurate interios etc...Boy was I wrong. I bought Forza 3 a month ago and it has 500 "premium" cars. Do they look AS good as GT5? Slightly less rea, but all of them are beautiful and 100% accurate (interiors etc). And Turn10 didnt take 5 years to make...

2) Customization...Ok someone tell me whos idea it was to only let you paint colors that you already own?? Thats stupid. In Forza 3 you have a GIANT palette to choose from, everything from 'normal colors, to metallic colors, to premium colors' and you can also choose your own color with a custom palette. Also, you can put body kits, name brand parts (intakes etc), and the vinyl/decal system is amazing. Mix that with the marketplace feature and omg...I have an SRT4 and a 350z in the game that look IDENTICAL to mine in real life. Its simply amazing.

3) Drag races. How does GT5 drop the ball here? I know they are japanese dev team so maybe thats not what their focus is...but you're gonna go out of your way to create GO KARTS and stupid NASCAR but leave something simple like Drag racing? Which is probably one of the most famous types of races in america. Its a thrill upgrading your car and seeing what it can put down at the strip.

Those are my main grips with GT5. When you're using a premium car and using photo mode in GT5, its fun as heck...but that wont last me long...those 200 cars arent even the main onese I always want to use. Some of the most fun cars I want to drive are only in the "USED" section and I refuse to play GT4 cars.

I just dont get what they spent 5 years on....I'm guessing they took a 4 year break and then made the game in a year, because this is just unacceptable.

Sorry my .2 cents. I waited a long time for JUST this game...I bought my Xbox a month ago for Forza because I was that dissapointed.

I like the game overall and have put a fair few hours in ( A-spec level 30 now ) and will put some more in. However it is not without it's flaws:

  1. Too much focus on quantity not enough on quality - all the special events and 1000+ cars when 800 of them look rubbish. 400 cars would have been fine if they were all premium cars!
  2. AI not competitive enough - races should have limits on what car you can enter - you can enter lots of races with an F1 car that leaves the opposition dead in the water and you'd have to be the world's worst driver not to win - they should have locked it down much better as they are starting to do with the seasonal events
  3. Load times are really really terrible even after saving everything to the hard drive

Anyway that's my two'penneth worth so......to sum up - a good game that didn't quite live up to the hype :(

GT5 does have some very odd design choices that make me wonder how they could have got it so wrong (who thought it was a good idea to enable custom BGM in Hardware?) but you buy this game for the driving, and the driving physics are solid.

The menu is a mess and everything seems counter-intuitive but as soon as you are racing you forget about how rushed the overall presentation seems.

I have to agree that it is too easy to get in an overpowered car and dominate races, I hate the fact that the Licence Tests are now not compulsory and it does feels at timesthat the game is trying to teach me how to drive...but when I can "feel" theweight move around in the car as I change direction I can forget my little gripes with the game.

I just traded in my copy. Too bad I waited until it was only worth $32. I was just so incredibly bored with the game I couldn't imagine myself ever sticking it in the PS3 again. Really sad, considering I played GT4 for 6 months, absolutely loved it, and was still discovering exciting new things even then. When you look at what other developers do in two years, and then you look at what Ployphony Digital did in six...absolutely pitiful.

GT5 is boring & dissapointing. We had to wait 6 years for a game that has a terrible XP system, only 200 premium cars, a basic customization system, pointless license tests, crap A.I, only a handful of real tracks the list could go on.

Well I disagree, first of all I have a nice 3D tv and a G25, I have complete the 82% of the game, I have 60% of the trophy's, and this is my favorite GT, And I had GT1, 2, 3 and 4.

The driving its so realistic and fun, love the endurance races, and one thing that i do, I always race with a car that its on par with your opponents, that makes the game a lot more fun.

But well everyone has opinos right.

The only thing they messed up is the camera angle when you're watching the back of the car. Other than that, the game is a very accurate driving simulator. And if you're complaining about the gameplay? Uhm, its a simulator, as in, it simulates how a car handles in real life. If that's not your cup of tea, may I suggest NFS: Shift or Dirt 2, which are already out, or wait for their next releases this year.
