A friend of mine has been playing Guitar Hero 2 on his brother's PS2 for a while now. He's thinking of treating himself to a PS3 for Christmas but is wondering if the connections for the guitars are the same on the PS2 as they are on the PS3. In other words, will he have to buy all new guitars to be compatible with his PS3 or will he still be able to use his brother's until he can afford his own. Does the PS3 even have connections for controllers on it? Any help would be great, thx.

Yes you will have to buy new controllers....there ARE ps2 to usb connectors but they work HORRIBLY with the guitar hero controllers. If he doesnt want to shell out the extra money for the ps3 version, just buy the ps2 version, same game.

All three PS2 games are backwards compatible with the PS3, but the wireless+dongle guitar that comes with GH3 will not work with the old PS2 versions..yet. There is an adapter for the old PS2 input to USBthat supposedly allows the PS2 controller to work, but I have never tried it.

I have the adapter and GHII with wireless, and it does seem to work ok. Just know you won't be able to do hammer on's or pull offs.
