Haha! Viking flopped!!

I just read the IGN review (which I find more reliable than the GS reviews these days), and they gave it a 6.3! I heard people hyping this game like it would be so awesome. I love it! What did you people think of when you saw footage, previews, etc?

Haven't read the review yet but Sega has hard core games. Was it too tough for them? I thought the graphics in the pics I seen looked great.

I'm waiting on Sega's Iron Man myself.

It'll be a 7.0-8.0, so don't act like I didn't warn you. If you let yourself get hyped up with every game, then every game will end up disappointing in one way or another. Chill on the hype and expect games to be good, but never great. These so-called great games (Halo 3, Uncharted) are nothing more than good games to me.

I'm not sure the Viking game was hyped. This is actully the most I've seen people writing about it. So, yeah. Oh wait, I almost forgot the lol.

Vikings, I have just learned of this game today, got quite excited for a while thinking the battle scenes looks pretty sweet maybe I'll give this title a rent tomorrow, but then almost half an hour later I saw the review on ign and now I'm like damn nothing to buy for the next two weeks.

Let me guess, you think Uncharted is the better game? Therefore, reviews shouldn't dictate your purchase, because Uncharted reviewed below the other game mentioned. I like Uncharted better. Gamespot reviews alone dont influence my game purchases. Most of the other game sites gave Uncharted much better reviews than GS. If a game gets a good overall rating on metacritic, I'll most likely get it. GS reviews suck badly ever since they started this .5 increment bull****, so I dont really follow them that much.

This thread has more replies than anything on the damn viking board so idk what ur talking about. anyways there are also 2 other review for the game play (or w/e it is) gave it a 9.5 and xbox360achivements (something along those lines) gave it an 8.1. also the player reviews are at around an 8.3 i think and i find those more reliable than the opinion of one reviewer. So...because one website gives a game an average review, it's suddenly garbage? Doesn't anyone think for themselves anymore? Go rent it. If it sucks, don't buy it. If it's fun, then you're not paying $60 blind.

Don't be so quick to bury a game that HASN'T RELEASED YET.

For a game to "flop" the sales have to be bad. It has nothing to do with reviews of the game, so as others have said, to say the game has "flopped" before it's even released is stupid.

Second of all, this game was/is not "hyped" very much, and neither is Dark Sector. As I have said in other posts, for a game to receive a lot of warranted hype, it needs to either be from a well established developer, have revolutionary gameplay or have extremely good graphics. Neither of these games have any of that. The biggest of those that each game is lacking is developer. The developers of Dark Sector have never released a major title and most of their games are stuff you would find for $4.99 online or board games. The only good games the developers of Vikings have released are RTS's, which in no way determines how well they will make an action game.

My expectations for both games are not necessarily extremely low, but they are average, in that I see both games being VERY average and by the end of the year, most people won't even remember them. Not just because of the developers, but because both games look to be very far from being anything special (in terms of gameplay and graphics).

Maybe so but id still go with player score over a critic score and even wih a player score you might not like it yourself, rent it try it out, dont like it dont buy it. Form your own opinion, use reviews as sort of a guide for whats in the game. not everybody will agree with a critic.

Hehe, well, don't get me wrong. I knew about Viking and it looked ok enough to rent, but I saw the word "hype" and well, I just never saw it as "hype" material. Who knows? It might be a decent game, it's not out yet where I live. :)

Viking was never even on the radar for me. I figured it would pull a high 5 or low 6. But it wasn't hyped or anything. I never even saw an ad for it......probably because they don't exist.

I guess I should say Haha! Im still going to play it. I find myself trusting IGN and Gamespot's reveiews less and less, and basically only trusting the voice of gamers who have actually played the games and dont get paid to do so.

Exactly, and most of the people who have played the game (some guys over on NeoGAF and Eurogamer) have absolutely fell in love with the game. And I am still amped for this game personally, regardless of the so called "experts" reviews. It certainly would not be the first time that I absolutely loved a game that got mediocre reviews from the so called "reputable sites", lol.

Besides, this is the kind of game is aimed dead and center at the core gaming base, and is the type of game that your average casual gamer would not even give the time of day, so the score IGN gave it is no suprise really. As lots of strictly core games often score right down the middle. Don't make them bad though. So, a down the middle score certainly should not deter those who personally dig what a game has to offer from giving it a go, regardless of "Teh RevIEWz".

Scores be damned. If a game outside of the usual hype worthy popular box appeals to you, do not let the opinion of some random video game reviewer prevent you from possibly missing out on a game that you personally may love. And do not let the rantings and ravings of a bunch of forum fanboys deter you either, as most of the ones who are the first to jump all over games that they have never even played are the biggest followers you will ever meet. They always tread the 'safe zone' and never step outside of the box in order to take a risk on games which do not get high review scores from complete strangers.

Reviews are not cast in stone laws...they are meant to be guidelines, and quite often, they fail horribly at even attempting to do that. As what makes you think that you personally will think that the game will suck? If you always made your decisions based on what the critics say, then you will miss out on alot of content that you would otherwise think is great. This goes for far more than just games.

I was gonna buy this game, dont really care bout ratings i know i would enjoy it,however Wednesday im going to purchase NG:DS for the ds, and am going to pay in full for GTAIV(S.E.).

Alot of games are being released Wednesday, wish i had a psp I'd buy FFVII:CC for sure!

You did this same **** with Dark Sector, I dont think anyone cares what the reviews say...the only time a review matters to me is when it is done by users...I think if Half-Life got under a 7.0 you wouldnt have it as a icon would you, in fact you would most likely do something just down these lines right? Please hillelslovak open up a new forum and make it worth my 10 seconds of my life :roll:! P.S. Dark Sector hasnt even gotten 1 review yet. I was not hyping it or dogging on it, I merely said that I thought it could flop. On the same token, it could do really good, and Id like to buy a new game this week that isnt crap. And for the record, this forum isnt as much dogging on Viking as its giving a big STFU to the people Ive come across that act like its gonna be the best game ever, and hype it up like there's no tomorrow. And Im not a Half Life fanboy, I just love the games, and the Half Life games dont get bad ratings because theyre quality games. So, my good friend, STFU.....
