Has anyone here had this experience at GameStop or EB Games?

Eveytime I try to ask about a PS3 game, talk about reserving a PS3 game, or talk about anything related to the PS3, they put the system down and force their opinions about how the 360 will have the same game, has the same game or has better games. Are they being told to do this or what? On one hand its funny, but on the other it is very annoying! Has anyone ever had close to this type of experience.

I remember this happen last week when I went to go pay for MGS4 and they swear that MGS4 is coming to the 360 and it will be MGS online....Funny part about this conversation, the same idiot said MGS3 was on the XBOX. His co-worker had to show this clown that it never was released on the XBOX.

What is with these people?

Ppl who work at GameStop and EB Games are usually gamers themselves, therefore, there are fanboys among them....

That's why I go to places like BestBuy and FutureShop where the employees don't know much about gaming, so they don't interfere with my reservations/purchases.

This kind of thread pops up every so often but it only seems to happen in the US. I live in Ireland and I can safely say there is no bias towards any one particular system and I'd imagine this goes for the rest of Europe aswell.

There's only 3 answers I can come up with on why this happens:

1. Microsoft is a US company and therefore the staff feel they're helping the US economy by selling American branded products (very, very unlikely)

2. They're on better commission for selling 360 products

3. All their friends own 360's and they haven't really experienced the PS3 properly with the exception of a few demo's in store.

Yeah, sadly, I've experienced that too.

Unfortunately for the unprepared-to-argue-with-me-clerk, he was put in his place. He wasn't prepared for a customer who can think for himself, and make decisions for himself, and keeps up on all things gaming. I can't stand when people force their biased opinions on you, especially uniformed clerks, who, just because they work at a game store, think they know more then every customer that walks in. Not always the case, as he was shown.

I've had to correct this clerk several times for giving less informed customers the completely wrong answer. Some of the info he gives is so wrong that you wonder if he (or any other employee that does this) is just stupid or is a fanboy. Listening to some of the crap said by this employee, I'll say he's biased. It's sad because many people come in Gamestop looking for advice from "knowledgeable" sales staff, and they get fed wrong, or biased info.

It seems that there is a huge divide between gamers these days, and that's sad. It's almost more about the console war then the games to some people. If someone has a preferred system, fine, I'm sure we all do, but the way some people attack another system, or that system's users, is sad. There's just too much anger, bias, and arguing going on, so much so that I think many people lose track of what it's all about, and that's games.

Sad.

Oh well, I'm having a ball gaming.;)

Yeah when I stoped by my local GameStop and told them I'd bought a ps3, by their facial expressions you would have thought I'd told them that I just killed their childhood pet. Weird. Part of my wonders if they're paid to verbally advertise certain consoles.

I have only seen one or two good advisors at gamestop/eb games. And I've been to many on different States. Gamestop employees are as bad as rude clerks, except their problem is that they don't know anything rather than being rude.

I've never had that experience. Of course, the location that I go to, I know all the employees there. Some of them are fanboys, but they've never interfered with my purchases unless I myself engage in a conversation about it with them.

I've only had to deal with things like that from them a few times since those stores are often my last resort.

Considering the multitude of other options where you can get your games, Gamestop should usually be your last resort.

I'm almost positive it's based on the person. There's a surprising amount of Gamespots in my area, and last time I went down to Charleston, SC, I stopped in one there too.

Twice I've had the push on the 360, and once I told I was stupid because I didn't have a Gameboy Advance. The one who calle dme stupid ended up fired over it I beleive, he said it in front of the manager and the manager flipped out on him and sent him out of the store. The 360 push came when I was looking at the PS3s before I ever bought one. Dude told me it was "crazy" to buy a PS3. The other came the other day, without any promting. Dude just randomally started praising it.

However, when I bought my PS3, the guy calmly and professionally discussed all three of the current generation consoles with me, and didn't get opinionated when doing so. I know those guys don't make to much, but forcing your opion isn't acceptable anywhere. Fanboys have always got on my nerves, but luckily, the vast majority of my trips (I've had three instances out of probably 400-500) don't end up like that at all. I get a professional opinion when I ask, and that's all I ask for.

Yea I have experienced it but I usually just brush it off and tell them that its their loss and all because they like the 360 doesn't mean that you have to bash the PS3 they both have great games and it just depends on the experience you are looking for.

I normally don't have a problem with the people there. i've asked for a lot of advice on ps3 games and they've helped me make a good decision on which ones to get or reserve. they are making money either way so i don't think they are being biased. at least the ones i've spoken to.

I went in to trade in 360 for the ps3 and the guy was just acting like a total bizz. He seemed pretty angry that I was doing this even though I was well aware of the choice I was making.....

I live in Bunbury, Western Australia and the staff at EB Games (all 6 of them) are Pro PS3. A couple of months ago I went in to pre-order a game and the manager (a lady) was dropping hints to a customer (who was purchasing a 360) that like one in three die ect ect.......he still brought it. after he left she said if she had a choice she wouldn't stock the 360 at all.

I spose what I am trying to say is that it's up to the individual and their preference. and I am glad there's Ps3, Wii's and 360 because the competition between these companies makes them make better and stronger products. no competition = stagnation

The EB I go to has never done anything like this. She is a nice chick, and she and her whole staff are helpful. The only thing they try to push on me is the $3 guarantee thing.

I work at gamestop and I never try to put down the customer. I know what you guys mean though, I know a few stores around me with incompetent workers who know next to nothing about video games or if they do their fanboys. I always like to inform people of their decisions especially with a ps3 or 360. Well those are my two cents.

ive had this problem, mainly because they're all so stupid. i went into EB Games the other day looking for Ace Combat 6 for 360( I own a PS3 as well, this is just an example) and both clerks, as well as a manager tried to tell me that AC6 hasnt come out yet. obviously i knew they were wrong, so i told them to look in their comps and still they tried to tell me it hasnt come out yet. so i walked over to the 360 wall andgrabbed the case, brought it over to the desk and you should have seen their faces. probably the most embarassed and ashamed expression i have seen for a while lol.

I really have no issues with my local EBGames stores. I've had a few healthy arguments in last few years but overall nothing that would compromise my decisions, not that it can anyway.

I really don't expect them to put any "knowledge" into me since I know pretty much all there is to know when I buy a product.

What I do except from a clerk is to understanding when I tell him what I want, and provide me with it. That's how it goes. You really need to do some research, (not that's hard, just time consuming). I rarely had any clerk trying to argue with me over PS3 one way or another.

When they do, they are not prepared for the "lecture". :)

There are some cool guys that work at game stores, and there are some not so cool guys working at game stores. People that choose it as a profession can be the most manical fan boys. It is quite common. Just don't listen to their BS and be proud you have the best console - PS3.

Best Buy isn't much better... of course, I used to work in the PC/HO dept of there, so ideas flow more freely between me and the staff. But yeah, it's kinda split half and half. Some are 360 fanboys, some are PS3 fanboys, and most of them hate the Wii. Everyone in home theater loves PS3, of course.

I can't believe all the stories I hear about how GameStop employees are so biased and blah blah blah. Working at one myself, our store has never had any sort of problems like that. We might casually joke with certain customers about which systems we prefer, but at the end of the day we're not going to literally bash a system. I find this particular story hard to believe because since you were reserving a game I don't think the employee was going to try to talk you out of it.

My local EB has two knowledgeable PS3 owners that constantly look like they've been beaten with a stick. Every time a customer walks in they don't make eye contact and only say what's necessary to complete a transaction. I feel bad for them. :(

Yeah, especially since Gamestop employees make commission off of getting customers to reserve games.

The only time I've had a problem is when they tried to sell an opened version of Uncharted to me as new. After I told him, "if it's open, it's not new man" he seemed to get very irritated. He even went so far as to slide my game across the counter while saying "we're out of bags, next".

This will be my second to last visit to Gamestop (my brother gave me a $40 gift certificate for X-Mas, I will not dishonor him by wasting it), unless they redeem themselves by some wonderfull customer service, such as I used to recieve, on my next visit.

Here is why they don't like the PS3.

1) They work at gamestop so they make what - $6 an hour or something...

2) The PS3 costed $600 in the beginning

3) They are already in debt from buying the 360

4) Based on above they can't afford the PS3 - they are mad because of this so they talk smack about it...........

5) They all have 19-inch black and white tv's so they know that they couldn't take advantage of the PS3 no matter what

Very simple

Exactly. Why would you continue to like the store if they have bad employees. Your liking of the company should be based on the service you get there. Thats why I love my Gamecrazy I go to. The best employees at any store I've been to.
