Haze is, "Nothing new," says GameTrailers.Com

The first preview of Haze has come out from GameTrailers.com

I believe Haze will be an "entertaining," game, and a good FPS for the PS3, but I highly doubt it is going to be anything revolutionary.

The graphics are a bit bland, but some of the gameplay mechanics look fun and interesting. A lot of the people who helped develop Perfect Dark for the N64 are on board on Haze and you can already see quite a few of the same ideas (like 2x weapon modes on many weapons).

GameTrailers.com has said that there are some quirks, and that the game is not mindblowing, but it seems "solid."

If you take a look at some of the animation, like how the AI models run around in the field, you should notice how they seem to act nearly the same way that they did in Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Perfect Dark Zero. I believe this game will be feel like a refreshed/enhanced version of those games. I am going to get this, but for now, my expectations are not particularly high. Leaves less room for disapointment.

I felt the same way as you, I was never expecting much to begin with. However if I started my post off with something towards an "I told you so," comment this whole thread would have turned into a flame war at some point.

Alot of FPS games are not really revolutionary. Plus it is very hard to be, considering theres alot of FPS games out there.

Haze looks to be a very fun game, a game that i will enjoy along with others.

Haze i reckon they tried to do too many things in one game but over all still looks good. Graphics are alright nothing to great, but lets all wait till it comes out so we can see how the game play is.

You want a game with great graphics but with alright game play or a game with good graphics and great gameplay.

The preview on gametrailers actually gives Haze more credit than you have acknowledged. Gametrailers preview pointed towards a very fun game despite not having the graphics of uncharted or motorstorm and not really changing the shooter formula too much. As long as it has good features in singleplayer, fun multiplayer, and a decent story then i think its worth picking up. Sure it may not redefine the genre or exist on the same level as CoD4 but it will be a good game worth picking up. jyoung312

No matter what they missed their chance in march, now to come out in may i believe is crazy after GTA 4 and before MGS4 is like suicide for a FPS when thats all we have been seeing lately. I dont think it will make any kind of big splash except for those rare non-MGS4/GTA4 players

Yeah, this is why I won't be purchasing Haze.

I already have Halo 3 (been there, done that games done with)
Call of Duty 4 still pleases me for a "shooter," experiance.
Gears of War is still my favorite shooter game to play.

I'm in college, and I've gotten enough of my "game" addiction from COD4 this semester, I don't think Haze will do anything to make me want to play it "hours on end," like COD and Gears have done. My next purchase for videogames will be Ninja Gaiden II after my finals over so that I have time to focus on my finals. That will last me til the end of the month, then comes MGS4 which should last me a good ways through the summer.

Haze just isn't doing it for me, I'm going to pass.

not to mention my brother is going to buy GTAIV, which obv. looks a million times more fun to have than haze after destroying even other triple AAA shooter available. So what's the point of buying one that will be AA at best, and probably not even that?

who said it was revolutionary to begin with/ No one ever said it was. I mean perfect dark was extremely similar to goldeneye, but that didn't make it any less fun. I liked timesplitters a lot and it wasn't anything new other than rather fast and had weird looking characters, but I still love it. Haze seems pretty cool still, the story is a bit "the matrix' but it is different in terms of there aren't any other stories like it on next generation systems. Granted I did not like the way they showed off the playing dead in one of the new gameplay videos because the guy let his teammates do all the work. Setting traps seems fun, watching others go balistic is fun, stealing necter off of bad guys seems fun. No it isn't the biggest game ever but it doesn't seem designed poorly. It is just coming out at a bad time. They really should have got it done by Q1.

Why does every PS3 exclusive have to be "revolutionary" all the time for people to enjoy it. Once again not trying to start system wars but not every exclusive that comes out on 360 or wii is totally awsome either, but people still think it is fun enough to give it a look.

GTA 4 and MGS 4 don't seem new either, but I bet they will still be pretty fun to play.

Unless this game sucks severely I personally still want to play it.

I wasn't really expecting Haze being a revolutionary game, I do hope that it will be a solid shooter.

I'm already tired of COD4, so I'm looking for Haze to replace that. GTAIV is coming up but I'm on the fence on that game.

Then of course I will buy MGS4 in June.

I may wait for the reviews on Haze, but I'll eventually get it since I've been waiting so long on it and it's Free Radical.

GTA was already a no the moment I played the first game. As for MGS4...are you joking me? I gurantee you MGS4 won't play the same as MGS3, 2, or 1. You've seen the vids, you're going to have to bring up other examples of games I'm planning on buying, yes?;)

All this unnecessary hype and people getting frustrated with the delays, they are painting a picture of a game that many will feel overrated. And I know for a fact that it won't change the way we view or play FPS games. Well said man! I can't wait to get this game, I think it will be the FPS to tide us over until Resistance 2, story looks awesome.

Oh and Black is one of my favourite FPS's ever ..

I don't understand why some people are still hyping this game. All the videos, lacklust hands-on previews, and repeated release date push backs should have been enough to put everyone on alert for a crappy game. I haven't seen anything that gets me excited for this title whatsoever over the past six months or so. Graphics, animations, effects... I'll be just fine playing other fantastic games until a real must have FPS comes out... and there should be at least two contenders for that distinction later this year.2headedhawaiian

Exactly, I'm just tired of people who thinks that Halo is the first game in the FPS genre to do anything new. And call every other FPS game a Halo wannabe.. "In halo you shoot aliens" ... We did that in Alien too? . "In halo you use guns" .. up. As we did in all the ooold FPS games too. it's pathetic.

Like I'm going to lower my standards. :P This is why having a wide range of genre choices are good. When a dry of an original shooter hits, we always have another genre exeeding expectations. I don't have any generic games in my inventory and I won't start now just because the PS3 needs games.

I dont understand why people get shocked when a review for a FPS is called good but nothing new... I mean seriously all FPS are the same to me. Thats why I really dont care too much for them. I got COD4 for the online play... I got Vegas1, 2 for the story and tactical play and I think that is it for me for FPS... The last FPS I got besides that were Perfect Dark and Turok 3 for N64.

I mean what really more can a FPS do besides improve the graphics or online play... but I know there are people who love these types of games but I for one will stick to the action adventure, good gameplay and games with great stories...ala MGS, DMC, Onimusha, GTA, GOW. Oh and I wish I had a 360 cause I think Fable 2 is going to be great.
