I never said that anyone was buying the system for me, I said I was getting it. So maybe I feel like complaining that a system that I'm investing 500 dollars in doesn't come with HD cables. So deal with it.

Well saying you are getting it for Christmas is implying someone else is buying it. Also there is no reason to cry, obviously if you can afford a PS3 and an HDTV, you can afford the cables needed. I think Sony is giving enough stuff with the system. Blu-Ray, wifi, a game or movie (depending on which system you buy) and a bluetooth controller. Stop complaining.

Ok they could pack both component and HDMI cables in the box (a waste since you can't use both at once) and charge you way too much for each of those, OR you can order your own HDMI cable off amazon.com for less than $5. Also, if you bought PS2 Component Cables, they still work.

Apparently, there are lots of different qualities of HDMI cables, so if Sony supplied the HDMI cable people would probably think it was a low quality one or something and buy new ones anyway...

I don't buy it though, a cable is a cable, people don't speculate about USB cables so I fail to see why HDMI is any different...

But about the subject... 8)

They make you buy the HDMI cables yourself because PS3s aren't expensive enough, and it's generally agreed that the more you spend the more 1337 you are.

Lets not forget that most people do not own HDTV's as of yet, so for Sony to add HDMI cables would be a waste of money on their part.

Well, theyd have to include what, HDMI, Compo, RGB, etc etc cables. No point, its cheaper to let the people buy the cable which machines their TVs themselves.

For those of us who aren't internet savvy and know how to find cheap cables, hdmi regularly go for $60+. So yes, including only composite A/V cables only is something to complain about. Not something that would stop people interested in the PS3 from getting it, but just one more mark against a company with a pretty poor image already. Component cables would have at least been a gesture of good faith.

obviously if you can afford a PS3 and an HDTV, you can afford the cables needed

Shacks210

It's not an issue of afforability, it's an issue of needing to shell out more money for at least component cables that should have been included. A/V is a bit of an insult honestly. Honestly I don't want to shell out another $30. If I buy a car, then obviously I can afford tires, but that doesn't mean it should come with bicycle wheels on it.

they should have included component cables. HDMI i can understand because those can be expensive and it's not a standard that everyone has at this point. and i like Murdock's' analogy. If we are to look at the PS3 as the BMW of consoles for example, that damn beamer better come with some good wheels.

The head of Sony's Computer Entertainment division (forgot his name) gave an explanation for this in an EGM issue... according to their survey, most people (70% if I remember correctly - though I'm not sure) do not own an HDTV. So going by that logic they included the AV cable and not HDMI cable.

Of course I am just relaying the view, not neccesarily agreeing with it. I am about to buy a PS3 and not too happy about shelling out extra money for the HDMI cable. But that's life

Then why does Microsoft give their customers both composite and component with the 360? And if you get the Elite you get both AND an HDMI cable. It's a gesture of good faith by the company if they include everything to get going after the sale.

THANK YOU!!! Finally someone GETS what I was saying! I was just complaining about the hassle of getting the damn things. I didn't create this thread to troll or whatever. And I'm not saying I'm cheap, I just think it's sot of cruddy of Sony to not include HD cables or both for a system that is clearly supposed to do so.

Then why not include a $5 cable? I would rather have to go buy a $5 AV cable, then try and hunt down a quality composite or HDMI for $5. You get what you pay for with these things. It's not trolling to want the appropriate cables after shelling out $500. If only 30% of homes have HDTV, then why even put a blu ray player in the PS3, or offer wide screen, or progressive, or the dozen of other options that are included in the PS3 which are clearly geared towards HDTV owners.

It seems that any complaint about one's console of choice is trolling. Is it trolling when complaining about the red-ring? "OH but you can send it in and get it fixed for free, stop complaining." Learn to give a little and not be so stubborn people.

the price has nothing to do with it. it has to do with the fact that sony touts the advanced ps3 then doesn't include the capability to fully utilize the thing. as stated earlier, if i buy a beamer, the damn thing better have nice wheels on it.

Sony put the cables in there that most people will use to get their system going.

You are thinking selfishly.

A year ago alot of people didn't have hdtv's, alot of people didnt have hdmi, alot of people didn't have component on their tv's.

Why include all cables or just hd cables?

There are other things afoot also, for example BD, Sony and it's partners want to promote BD, and hdmi along with that, why give component cables like the other console? I fyou wanna talk about things that consoles are missing how about FULL free online for games. (Sure there is Xbox Silver but it's not unlimited) What about rechargeable controller, that bluetooth and also builtin wifi

each system has good and bad things. we could do this all day long. As for the full free online, do you really expect developers to put time into things such as expansions and then give them away for free?

By Full free, I DO NOT MEAN CONTENT, Since expansion packs cost money and so mmorpg's. I'm talking about

the differences between gold and silver levels, PS3 only has one level for all.

You have a legitimate complaint and only idiots/fanboys would deny your complaint.

I agree with the issue, however I work at Best Buy so I can get HDMI cables for mad cheap. :P

Listen Sally,

Xbox Live is better than PSN, plain and simple. PSN is totally competent and functional, but it's not as fleshed out.

Rechargeable controllers? Oh you mean like the PS3 controller I have? Yeah it sure is great when I run out of juice and I need to sit 2 feet away from my TV because I'm tethered to the console.

Like someone said, there are pros and cons to each system. But we are off topic.

How is it selfish to want a system seller to include a cable that many fanboys who disagree with me say is MAD CHEAP? As I said, it's not about money or means, I just think that if the thing is supposed to be so High Def savvy, then it ought to have the means to do either that or SD out of the box.

Like, they're advertising this stuff for us, waving it in our faces. Why is it selfish to complain about being denied the materials necessary to get this 1080p that sony has been boasting out of the box?
