By the time I can afford a PS3 in a couple of years, Europe will only have the 40GB available, slightly annoyed at that. But, oh well.

I've had this Hitachi HDD lying around for ages, my computer isn't SATA compatible so I've had no use for it. If I save it though, would it work on my PS3 when I get it? It'll finally have a use and it's 160GBs.

Would it work? And I hear you have to format it or something, how would I do that? Thanks in advance.

SATA, any size, prefered 5400rpm, FAT32. It will work. Plus you can use your 40GB stocker with an enclosure for an external.

On the sticker it says 7200RPM *I'm assuming higher is better?*, and it says something about BA2358, not sure if that's what you were talking about though. Thanks for your help as well, that's a relief.

7200rpm is faster/runs hotter. The concern with a faster than stock speed is the increase to temp. There's nothing conclusive about having the faster speed cause problems but concerns have been voiced.

Hmmm...I guess I'll take my chances, no point buying another. Once again, thanks for the help. At least now I know it will work when I finally get around to buying a PS3.

but one other thing you have to factor in is if it is a laptop drive 2.5" it if is a PC HDD it will be to big

hey Emitsu, if you get an enclosure for the HDD that is taken out can you just plug it in a place everything right back onto the new drive? you know instead of having to back it all up and all that?
