Hey, well I was wondering how much of a difference the HDMI cable actually makes to the quality of the graphics as apposed to the standard AV cable that comes with the PS3?

Is it worth the £15 for the new cable?

If you look on amazon you should be able to get one for about 5.50 so don't pay 15 quid for one, I only paid that much for one because I just couldn't wait for it to be delivered

In your case a HUGE difference since the standard composite cables are not HD.

I wouldn't even use standard AV composite cables the come with the PS3 to play dvds on a SDTV. In your case if you're thinking about getting HDMI you must have an HDTV, and if you are using the cables that came with the PS3, then you can't do HD yet, so it's a 100%, no duh, type must to get a HDMI cable or PS2 HD Component cables (don't mix it up with Composite).

For HDMI, go to monoprice.com and pick a 6 foot cable for $6

compared to standard AV.. Its WELL worth it.   Compared to Component cables, get HDMI only if you can afford it.  Less cables to worry about is always nice because the Audio and Video comes in only one cable with HDMI.

I used hdmi from day one with my ps3 and the last week changed to component so i could use my dvd (have to switch cables between the two) and noticed a big diffrence in the sharpnes of the picture,

mainly in text there seemed to be a slight blurring only noticble if you really looked but it was there, i also noticed particulary in resitance that the textures were not as sharp thought at first it was me but after switching back to hdmi yesterday have reallised it was the cables,

so I wold say that hdmi is better and worth shelling out for but I am also sure somebody would say that component is better i think it is just wether your as picky as me when it comes to visuals.

hope it helps

Ha, yeah its important.  But, for it to be very important, you'll need a HDTV.

HDMI is the only thing you can get the ps3 up to max resolution, 1080p.

Sure it does, when i just bought the HDTV and pluged the standard cables i said "man there isnt much diference what a waste", the next day i bought the HDMI cables and as soon as i saw the difference i literally threw the standard AV cables thru the window

When I first got my ps3 I tried a few movies, and RfOm and din't notice that much of a difference. Recentely I tried again with Casino Royale and Motorstorm as my test subjects and the difference is more substantial.

Uncomplressed audio and Sound works great for games, but the one I got from monoprice.com was $14.00 and when I watch blu-ray movies I get a ton of sparkles and grainyness. Games are ok but blu-ray movies look horrible.

Unsure if its due to my HDTV not supporting 1080p, or if its the cable. Every one seems to tell me its the cable so now Im thinking that cheap cables are not the way to go. So maybe steer clear from monoprice.com

Completely off-topic but if blu-ray movies look this bad in 1080i via HDMI then thats sad. Hoping its the cable though.

invest in a good hdmi cable i think sony makes sony specifically for the ps3, investing in a higher quality hdmi cable pays off less lost data and interference dont get one thats soo cheap or the difference wont be as drastic

I got mine from a radioshack it was about $30 USD, totally worth them. i may add that all HD technology is really expensive here and is at least 150% more expensive than in other countries.
