Well, I paid 60$ for a rocketfish HDMI cable when I first got my PS3. It was ok, but then I bought some new ones on Amazon.com, like this one from Mediabridge. I researched it, people swore by it, so I got 3 for the heck of it. It did produce a little darker blacks and the motion was smoother indeed with my 120hz samsung 850 series LCD TV. So yea, quality HDMI cables can be had for discount prices, easily rivalling or surpassing crap like monster for 10x the price.
Just make sure you do your research too, some cheap HDMI cables are well... cheap and crappy, you get what you pay for in some cases.
I'll tell you right now you will not go wrong with Monoprice.com. Their cables are cheap in price and amazing in quality. I wouldn't buy cables anywhere else.Well, I paid 60$ for a rocketfish HDMI cable when I first got my PS3. It was ok, but then I bought some new ones on Amazon.com, like this one from Mediabridge. I don't doubt it either. I just checked Amazon, and for 10 dollars that cable doesn't dissappoint. I mean at some point, 3 vs. 10 dollars isn't THAT big of a deal. But research, research and research before you buy inexpensive.Well, I paid 60$ for a rocketfish HDMI cable when I first got my PS3. I've noticed that you have to be careful with what you buy at MonoPrice.com
The cheap $10.00 HDMI cables I saw advertised there other day only supported HDMI 1.2 compliance not the current 1.3 and they were only rated to 1080i not 1080P.
Has anyone put a cheap HDMI cable (someting like Triquest for $9) on their ps3 and then tried a more expensive HDMI cable to see if there is any quality difference? If so what were you results?Colinski283
Image quality there's no difference. Cable quality there is. The cheap HDMI is more likely to stop working properly after a few months it may cause the image to flicker or not show at all. The more expensive and sturdy ones will last you longer. At least thats what happened to me when i bought a cheap HDMI. now im using a monster one, so far so good.

The ones in my link are 1.3 compliant.[QUOTE="Colinski283"]Has anyone put a cheap HDMI cable (someting like Triquest for $9) on their ps3 and then tried a more expensive HDMI cable to see if there is any quality difference? If so what were you results?madsmokey

That isn't necessarily true. Monoprice makes some high quality HDMI cables for extremely cheap prices. My mono HDMI cable has been going strong since June 07 without a single problem (and I can't imagine why there would ever be one). Cables don't just fail unless you somehow tear/rip/cut the actual cable. On that note I'd avoid buying the super budget Walmart-type versions. You know you're getting quality for a cheap price from monoprice... So why not just buy from them? Wasnt going to comment on this until I saw the big lots thing. I actually know someone who purchased a $13 HDMI cable from there, and it was garbage. Grainy picture, and poor colors. Low quality or something. Perhaps it was a defective cable, but I dunno. I say they might just carry crap cables. raven_squadit was defective, i purchased a no name brand 5 dollar cable off ebay and a 120 dollar monster cable ran 2 PS3's side by side on near identical TVs and it looked the same....
i dont cut corners when it comes to investing in my electronics, i bought my monster hdmi cable set for 80 bucks at best buy. cant go wrong with monster cables.
And that's exactly why they can charge what they want and people will still buy from them. It's just part of the business...i dont cut corners when it comes to investing in my electronics, i bought my monster hdmi cable set for 80 bucks at best buy. cant go wrong with monster cables.

I've got monoprice cables running behind my whole entertainment system. PS3, 360, Wii, HDDVD, amp, TV - all connected by monoprice cables.
I've even got them in my home studio as well, plus on some computer systems.
Everything works perfectly, not 1 return needed. No defects, glitches.
Monoprice all the way.

You just made Best Buy $79 richer :P
The guys at Monster cable are laughing away with their "8 different types of future ready" HDMI cables. They are all the same! This isn;t the same generation that we lived in 5 years ago. If the cable works, it works. If your getting a grainy picture, it probably has something to do with the worksmanship on that specific cable. I have my PS3 hooked up to my 40' LCD with a six dollar ebay cable, and it looks/sounds amazing. If you love your PS3, and you've got an HDTV, why not spend the $30? It really isnt THAT much more... raven_squadUmmm...because why spend more money than you need to... Seriously $5 or $50 there is not much noticeable difference...

Ive got a 7.1 Sony Surround, 1080p LCD, and a PS3. I wouldn't want a 5 dollar cheapy in the mix. Thats like owning a Ferrari and getting your gas at a no-name liqour store off the freeway.

Actually, the vast majority of no name gas stations water down their gas a slight bit, which can cause serious engine/fuel pump issues if it exceeds a certain amount.... ANYWAY, IT WAS A SILLY EXAMPLE. I just dont think that 5 dollar cables are made of the same quality. Perhaps its just denial because I've got an expensive one. Who knows.

I heard cheaper Monster cables sold in stores have limitations artificially inserted (like max 720P) to force consumers into buying the more expensive ones.here is what popular mechanics saysilitar8That really says it all. $200 cables against a no name and they couldn't tell the difference. CC and BB just love HDMI cables because it is almost pure profit. People will buy them because once a customer has spent money on a TV they can be easily tricked into believing that they need the expensive cables when in reality they don't.

You should read further about the owner of Monster Cable, and how filthy rich he is. I read all about him back when I was deciding what cable to get. If I find the link, I'll post it.
Gold connectors are the way to go. Don't anyone tell you there's not a difference. I've been in the video field of work for a while and any video cable with gold plates is better than the regulars.FlawlessSeasonsYou are correct....for composite and component, that statement stands very true. As for HDMI (and DVI/USB), as long as it's functional, it does not matter. With an HDMI cable (which is sending a digital signal), You will either 1) get the signal, or 2) get a completely jacked up signal, or none at all. The only way you will get the latter is if your cable is malfunctioning due to a problem in the worksmanship. That's the way it works this generation, unfortunately the days of silver/gold plated connectors are pretty much over now.

Exactly! Unless your going a long distance there is no reason to get a more expensive hdmi cable.

Even at long distances above 12ft, I wouldn't be worried about the video signal... I probably wouldn't reccomend HDMI audio once we're dealing with a cable of that length. If you think about it though, if you're running an HDMI cable at 12ft or more, you probably have some sort of optical equipped reciever :)it is denial.. digital cables are all basically the same... if you're going over 12 feet though then the material is a factor...natrone06
