I think that the HDMI has better sound and picture quality than the hd components.

Picture will be slightly better but not really noticable. HDMI will allow 1080p and if you use HDMI for audio into a receiver it is the only cable that allows 7.1 audio.

Component also has 1080p, but HDMI will give you better picture quality.

The extra 10 dollars is worth it for HDMI cables.

On a select few TV's and I think I read that the PS3 will not allow the output of 1080p through component.

Lord Have mercy there is no VS it is HDMI CABLES all they way. Also when you do get HDMI cable depending on your setup you may have to keep the componet connected for audio purposes.

I just switched a few days ago and it's been a mixed blessing. Some games (like Ninja Gaiden Sigma) look better, others (GT5P and Valkyria mostly) look worse. GT5P in particular suffers from horrible, horrible aliasing, but I have a feeling there might be something else going on, like the game defaulting to 720p over component cables and now using 1080i on my TV. Not sure. Wouldn't explain Ninja Gaiden looking better, though. If nothing else, HDMI certainly makes games with aliasing issues look worse, since the slightly lower quality of component cables results in smoothed edges.

There is really no debate as to which one is better and at the current price of hdmi cables there is no reason not to get one. At the least it will clean up the wire situation on the back of your tv a little bit.

Remember though, your picture quality is only as good as your tv allows it to be. On my tv it makes anoticeable difference. If it looks worse with hdmisomethings wrong with your tv.

Since I use both, HDMI does improve picture sharpness and quality, especially on black colors.

Now by huge margin but it's noticeable to the eye quite well. This also translates to videos and games.

HDMI is easy to obtain and they range for 15-25$ in majority of electronic shops.

Note: You don't need to buy 69$-99$ HMDI versions - you will not be able to notice the differences since they are extremely minor and mostly are just for security reasons that average users does not require. :)

There is a huge different in picture quality. I bought my first PS3 and just hooked it up with what came with it and was kinda upset I bought a PS3. But then the next day I went and bought some HDMI cables, came home, hooked it up, and was no longer upset I bought a PS3 and couldn't believe how much better everything looked

HDMI is digital, while Component is analog. HDMI naturally is a better cable.
