Help!!! IP Address

ok so i just came back from deployment about 2 weeks ago.. and i just got cable and internet today..

so i got the cable and internet with Time Warner, and they gave me a cable modem for the internet.. so what i did was buy a "NETGEAR Fast Ethernet Switch" so i can have internet on my laptop and PS3.. but it seems that i can't get online with my PS3.. it keeps saying it can't obtain an IP address..

do you all know any way to fix this problem? thanks!

it almost seems like your laptop and ps3 are trying to fight for the same IP IMO, just get a router and make it easy they are not expensive these days i have had the ssame one for like 5 years now a linksys

Get a router. Stay away from the ****** Surf routers though.
