I've been using my PSP for the past few weeks to play Metal Gear Acid 2. I did an update from 2.81 to 3.95 a couple of days ago. Today when I turned on my PSP it said my memory card file was corrupted. Also, when I put MGA2 into my PSP, nothing happens. It tries to load the game but just keeps trying. This happens both with and without the memory card in. I restored default settings and wiped everything from the memory card but still nothing.

I don't have any other games to test so I don't know if it's the game, my PSP, or the memory card. I was thinking about renting a game just to test it out and see if the problem is with my PSP console or not. What do you think the problem could be? Also, does Blockbuster rent PSP games?

To start with, Blockbuster sells PSP games but doesn't rent them (sorry). Now the firmware you have installed on your psp (you said 3.95, and this is assuming its the OFFICIAL Sony PSP firmware), the update for 3.95 included the following:

"The last round of PSP firmware updates broughtSkype support, but it looks like 3.95 isn't nearly as exciting: Sony's added in reconfigurable button mapping to PS1 emulation, and made it so that you can choose to either shut down your PS3 or leave it running when you're done with a remote play session. That's about it, but we know you're all compulsively checking for the update now anyway."

So the problems you're experiencing could just be hardware malfunctions, try contacting Sony for support and to see if they will send you a new one.

Hope this helps, Sincerely:

-V

What file is corrupted? I deleted all of my save files and everything on the memory card. But the game, MGA2, still won't even load when I put the game in.

:S Clean the umd. OOh and make sure it isn't damaged. One of my UMD games couldn't be recognise because the clear part of the plastic on the UMD cracked and jammed the inner umd disk from moving

Damn I hope not. If that's the case, I won't be able to trade it in.

Well I just updated to 4.01 and MGA2 still won't load. The memory stick doesn't appear to be corrupted. I formatted it fine. This bites. Sony shoud put a warning on the update page saying that if you do a big upgrade, you risk breaking your PSP. They owe me restitution, but if I called them to have it serviced, they'd probably charge me up the yin yang.

Should I even bother renting a game to test it and confirm that it's not just the MGA2 UMD? Or is it safe to say that my PSP console is defective?
