hey jus wondering, which game will be the more popular game, MSG4 or GTA4

my thoughts personally would be that Gta4 will be game of the year

i like mgs more but im pretty sure the average gamer knows more about gta then mgs tiger35010

I'm in complete agreement. I cannot WAIT for MGS4 it's going to be A.W.E.S.O.M.E. But i'm pretty sure GTA IV will be more popular among gamers, if only due to the fact that there are only a select few of us who have followed the intricate and well thought out story-line, which have lead me to hold it in but only the highest of regards :D

GTA4 will best MGS4 in sells and will be loved by more people, but the games will have similar love. MGS4 and GTA4 will be rated 9.5 or more, wich is really rare, and the two of them are made by super big studios with more than 150 devs. I suppose they are the same in some way, but since GTA4 is something that appeal to more people, GTA4 will sell WAY more (it's multi-platoform too). And even if I finished and loved all MGS games and GTA games (even the 1st ones of GTA, but not the "before ps1" MGS), I'm more into GTA4 for all the stupid and fun stuff you can do in it. But I'll own and love MGS4 too, don't worry, lol.

The GOTY won't necessarily be the most popular.

And how are you defining popularity? Sales? Or critical acclaim?

If you're going by sales, I'd have to guess GTA4, as it's not exclusive to the PS3 like MGS4 is.

If you're going by critical acclaim, that's a tougher question, as I obviously haven't played either. However, I assume both games will be polished and be what you expect from each particular franchise. That said, if I have to guess, I will go with MGS4, because I think the nostaligia of it being the "last" time we'll see Snake again will give it a ratings boost. I mean, most of us have been Snake fans for a decade now (maybe some of us longer). The nostalgia won't make it a better game, but it might give it a little nudge in the ratings.

mgs you have to play though the game, and gta you can just go in and run over peds and steal cars and ect...

I don't think causal have enough patience to sit there and play through it.

Either way hardcore will play both and casual will probaly stick with GTA

There is no bs. read his post again and see where he said that GTA didn't have this "great story" you speak of.

But since you bought it up, let's compare....nevermind, we all know which story is deeper. I'll give you a clue, it has a 4/IV in it. ;)

For GotY, I think MGS4 will win. The game has much higher production values, and of course will have a much better story. GTAIV will be very good, and I'm sure will score high, especially since the online features are apparently huge. I just feel that MGSIV will have a LOT more care put into it to insure it's just right, along with the fact it's the last in a video game saga.

For sales, I think it's fairly obvious that GTAIV will outsell MGS4 by a large margin. Being multiplatform, it will probably be the best selling game of all time. Forget worrying what the story is about, probably 70%+ of the people that buy the game will have no idea what the actual setting is, but will buy it because it's a GTA game. MGS4 may sell more than GTAIV on the ps3, especially considering Japan. I'm also guessing that MGS4, on release day, may sell more copies than GTAIV (360 and ps3) does on it's release day since MGS4 will be a simultaneous worldwide release(even EU).

As for the person that said GTAIV is a downgrade. I think you seriously need to actually read up on the game. The game world is smaller, but that's because 50% of it isn't filled with void space to drive through. Not to even mention the online multiplayer modes (16 modes, up to 16 players at a time). Anyway, the game will be enormous and is more serious, which I think is something the game has truly lacked having a lot of content that is downright silly in most of the games, and I mean beyond the silliness that was meant to be there.

I for one think MGS is the best series ever so I am more stoked about that game... but I must say that GTA4 will be the most popular game and I think it deserves to be... This game will be big. It seems like two games in one... a single player with hours of gameplay and a multiplayer where you create yourself and have hours of gameplay there.

I know that I will play GTA4 alot more than I will play MGS4 but I think I will have a bigger attachment to MGS4 than GTA4... I Might Even Cry after I beat the game.

GTA4 will sell more due to it being multiplat. MGS4 will probably be more popular though. Ive been seeing more threads about MGS than GTA whether its praising it or hating on it and being popular doesn't always mean it'll be liked.

I'm more excited for MGS4 because I've always finished MGS games but I've finished maybe two GTA games. GTA doesn't really appeal to me I guess.

MGS4 no doubt. Japan + America MGS4 sales will beat GTA4 sales even with GTA being Multiplat and all. Also people are having second thoughts about buying GTA4 since its a pretty much a downgrade of GTA : san Andreas.

That's absolutely right. You brought up a great point. MGS4 sales are strong in Japan and the United States. And with the super value deal MGS4 Bundle pack, the game is going to sell systems. Not only will MGS4 rock the charts but it will tremendously boost PS3 sales. Not that it really needs it being that PS3 is leading sales in 2008 so far. I think they lead Xbox 360 but not so sure about the Wii. Correct me if I'm wrong.

In the same respect, Grand Theft Auto 4 will do quite well in the states, and will do pretty okay worldwide. As far as popularity goes, they're both giants in the industry. I cannot really tell you who is more popular or famous as you will. But when it comes to epic quality, MGS4 definitely carries that persona. Not only that, it is said to be the last installment in the Metal Gear Solid series. Metal Gear Solid 4 will go out with a bang, that's for sure.

In conclusion, I choose MGS4, easily. There is nothing like Metal Gear Solid series. Truly unique and one of a kind.

Man im really tired of seeing comments like this. Let me start off by saying MGS is my favorite series of all time and MGS4 is my most anticipated game of all time (been gaming hardcore since the 2600).

My point is though that too many people including yourself are buying into the bad media spin put on Sony this gen. THE PS3 DOES NOT NEED SAVING AND NEVER DID! Even if they DID need saving, one game never saves a console so MGS wouldn't do it alone. Some would argue that Halo saved the xbox, but realistically it was MS's stubbornness to keep investing in a dead horse that kept it afloat. The PS3 is doing fine and has been since launch, but people like you make it seem like Sonys about to throw in the towel because the media told you so.

Its the strong brand, the high quality hardware and the many great games to come that make the PS3 a valued console, not just MGS4.

Well I would take MGS over GTA any day but in all honesty GTA will be more popular. In MGS you actually have to think which doesn't appeal to the masses. Average joe doesn't want to take the time to soak in a complex story or strategize his next move to avoid detection. Average Joe wants to blow up everything he sees, run people over, while enjoying senseless violence and profanity and by no means is there anything wrong with that. MGS just isn't that accessible.

The missions in GTA for me are just plain boring and there's no strategizing involved, just like you said. Running people over, blowing up things is my thing, just not made for me as a GTA game. Wow... I really am going crazy.is0lati0n

I dont blame you, I didnt like Grand Theft Auto either. I thought the graphics were terrible, missions were boring, go kill these thugs, kill this cartel, carjack this vehicle, blah blah blah. I found myself running around killing people because I was bored. I really hope GTA 4 does something different and it looks like it will. Nothing like a game that gets more repetitive in a series. You're not crazy and neither am I. But I have faith and I'm giving this game a chance. I pre-ordered my copy just for kicks.

MGS4 = crazy sales in japan & good sales in america and europe 8)

Well alot of that depends. And were not talking sales here. Because 2 on 1 just does not work for reason. Alot depends of if GTA can make 2 solid version that run great, and give this great exspeirance. Can GTA4 be as big and epic as GTA SA or GTA VC! If they cant do that they wont even be up their with a average game. Ok so a vary good average game, which is waht GTA4 should be.

But the more I hear about MGS4, His last game, the last in the series, 50GBs of content. I think GTA4 wont be as big as a GTA SA, nor as epic. Long enough this huge great game. Where MGS4 will probably be the most epic MGS EVER!

Put it this way. In GT4 Will I be able to drive 30 miles outside of Vegas to go get in one of my 5 plains, or Helis. In one of the airports I own. And fly out over 3 different cities, and have to do a sick sky dive jump onto a another jet. Then have a fight on that jet. Then land that leir jet. Thats a normal GTA SA mission. I dont think GTA4 can pull those off. Reason why not, well for one they dont have enough space.
