Why should I like a game based on pictures?

I like it based on plot, dialogue, voice-acting, atmosphere, gameplay, music and graphics.

Ok I will reread your post... ok it seems you say the bad points are the fact that they went to a more anime type theme as far as the bad guys in MGS2... and I think you mean the theme went from dark to a more light feeling...and lastly I think you are basically saying the story makes no sense to you or you are saying the story is too far fetched....

Is that right? if not please tell me so I can understand.

Do it quickly so I can respond...please:D

Heinous-Uranus

Lol, yes you nailed it, I think. Just remove the "story makes no sense to you". I understood 95% of the story I suppose, but it was really silly and far fetched.

Ok well if that was the case I really dont understand then... because MGS2 was basically a recreation of MGS1... a matter of fact the only REALISTIC Metal Gear game was Metal Gear on the NES... all the other ones were influenced heavily by anime... Come on man Mantis was pychic and you had to plug in the other controller to beat him... lol Vulcan Raven he held a Vulcan cannon in his hands... yea very realistic alright... the fact that Liquid went on to describe he and snake were clones of Big Boss... blah blah blah

Now the one thing I will give you is that Vamp is F'in crazy... I dont know how he is so crunk, but I am sure they will explain that in 4... but other than that everything made plenty of since and was more of a WOW factor for me then a yea right... I mean they tied in the Y2k craze everyone had at 2000... they showed why you were playing as this totally new character Raiden...

Now as far as the dark theme that Metal Gear Solid 1 I had no sense of that, but that might just be me... I have noticed that each game has its own particular identity... and that is why I love the series because each game is totally different to me...

I mean u have ur opinion and thats cool but wow to say he has no talent is wild... I mean u said it yourself MGS was your favorite game so I guess he has some talent...

Now the director who did Xmen 3 he had no talent.

Right............ You are a new user to the gamespot forums. You have never held an account here before. Uh huh. Way to make an introduction in the forums with this flame thread.

Lol, so should I have started by posting something that agrees with your opinion?

I think my critisism was quite well defined.

Lol, nothing's wrong with MGS.

Something is seriously wrong with MGS2 and MGS3.

And knowing that that entity with the parasitic hand attached is going to be a major firure in MGS4 and that the storyline is probably going to revolve around the craziness where MGS2 left us, I believe that I have every reason to tremble in fear that MGS4 is going to suck bad.

Lol, I have made up my own definition of "pseudo-philosophy". I bet the dialogues in MGS2 near the end of the game are the best way to define what I mean by the word.

Heinous-Uranus

I'm not even going to pull a dictionary.com here because it's not worth the time. Pseudo-philosophy is a term and derives from the notion of someone making a philosophical point when in reality it lacks any of the intellectual standards put forth to determine what is phiosophy. So, you can't really have your "own definition", because if this were plausible language would have no meaning, which would render it useless.

As for my second point; sure you're allowed to dislike the game just as much as anyone is allowed to enjoy it. The problem here is that you came with the intention of stirring up the attention of those who enjoy the game, rather than putting out legit reasons for disliking the game. You state Hideo Kojima has no talent, when in fact he is highly regarded among his peers as one who is striving to push video games to a whole new level. For a simple analogy, in the early 1900's, the commissioner of the patent office wished to close it down simply because he believe there was nothing left to invent. Thankfully bright minds disagreed and here we are today; and with that thought on your mind, Kojima is doing the same thing when he stated he was upset with MGS4. Truth is, the man will never be satisfied, because he wishes to push the limits of entertainment until he can go on no longer. To state this man has no talent is highly false, and I disregard all of your other opinions on the series because of that illconceived notion you made.

In the words of the Principal from Billy Madison: "[Heinous-uranus], what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Hmmm...

I put out many valid reasons for disliking the game, but as you said yourself, you disregarded them. Lol...

Throughout history, blindly following mass opinion has led to many disasters. Lol, I'm philosophical or pseudo-philosophical.

Give me one Kojima's innovation that any worthwile gamer couldn't have come up with (except the excellent story and directing witnessed in MGS *1*). Kojima just received enough financial support to tweak his games. Besides looking at the majority of games in the market, many directors don't even seem to try. Or if they do, they have no love of games and gaming...lol.

wow .... I mean wow... so you think anybody could have thought of the story in MGS3... let alone MGS2...wow now as far as the Portable ops game yea of coarse but as far as 2, and 3 dude come on...I mean if that was the case all these Metal Gear theory threads would have alot more correct guesses than totally wrong ones... but hey like I said before to you I just dont get your beef.

Hmmm...you can't devise this:

Some freaks capture a chemical plant and make threats. But then it turns out that there was a secret organization behind it all who just wanted to use the scenario to simulate how the ultimate soldier works...

Then there's a crazed bomber who wants to best his mentor...a girl who's sad that she can't follow her loved ones to death, because she is too lucky for weapons to kill her...and yeah then there's vamp who does who knows what...and a really cheesy scene between Hal and Emma emerich. And 2 hours of dialogue on how you can with discreet means cheat masses of people so well that they don't realize a thing about truth.

Lol, did I give you more reason to insult my ignorance...I wonder...

If you want talented Japanese entertainers, I'd suggest anime/manga (Berserk, HunterxHunter, Crest/Banner of the Stars, Haibane Renmei, Full Metal Panic!, Rurouni Kenshin, Death Note, Elfen Lied etc.)

Or MGS 1, lol...

To tell the truth MGS1 was more predicatable to me... A clone of the main character takes a secret weapon hostage so he can get the remains of the original solider so he can stay alive... but dude I am not attacking you I am just trying to understand you a little....

Yes, you are exactly right. Hideo Kojima is a no talent a**hat. The man is one of the most well respected game designers of the last ten years. While his stories contain numerous fictional aspects, they are mainly to make the story seem less real and plausible. The reality is that all the games make you think about what could happen. The extended movie scenes and codec dialogue may be over the top, but they develop the story to a point not seen in most media. No one complains when there is half an hour of dialogue in an RPG, so why should a stealth/action game be any different? And as for your comments about the graphics, most of the praise i have seen for this game are about the storyline and gameplay. I'd still purchase this game if it looked like MGS1. Graphics don't make a game. In the end, it's your decision on whether or not to buy the game. If you don't, then you'll be missing out on what could easily be the best storytelling and video game experience of the last five years.

Hmmm...

At the very least I hoped that the storyline wouldn't go where it went.

At least the storyline in MGS 1 wasn't silly, and man the speeches of the bad guys just left me, well speechles.

Oh for god's sake, can you honestly claim that when Liquid appeared through the attached hand, you didn't feel like "seriously, what the f**k is going on here?"...

Ok I can repsect that... but no I was not saying when liquid was in ocelots arm it was stupid I was more like hmm I would never expect that. On the other hand I have seen plenty of people my friends who have not played any MG games say what the H when I play that part of the game so I understand you there, but as for me I just say wow that is a twist and I love that cause I can NEVER predict what will happen in the game...I guess I understand you now... its like the rabbit hole with you... You jumped in but as you fall deeper and deeper you start to say to yourself WTF is this... while people like me say WOW thats different and crazy and accept it for what it is... I understand now well I think a little... I guess I will finish studying now...oh yea

and it seems that most of your beef is for MGS2... what about MGS3 have you played that? and if so what were your problems with that? If I may ask? I am not going to repond to that one like I did with 2 because I kinda get why you dont like the games now, but I would still what you did not like about 3.

The whole "Liquid's arm taking over Ocelot's body" has something to do with Ocelot's father, The Sorrow, being a spiritualist. I'm sure of it. We'll find out in MGS4.

The fact that Ocelot was Liquid's "right hand" man makes it all the more funny.

Lol, previously I commented Hideo Kojima's lack of talent in another thread, and I was shown a picture of MGS4 with "you fail" written underneath. Other replies as well seemed to imply that the game's good graphics should be assosiated with Kojima.

Now I would like to ask that how exactly is Hideo Kojima to be credited for the stunning visual look of the series (even though as a director he does influence some things)? Shouldn't the honor fall on the graphical designers and programmers?

The thing Hideo Kojima can be credited for is the devolution of the series from "greatest game of all time" to "overly stylized anime loaded with inane drivel".

Playing the 1st game I never could have guessed that Kojima suffered from the syndrome so many Japanese artists suffer from. This syndrome makes them fill their books, animations or games with endless talk about spiritualism, simulated reality and pseudofilosophy.

The decision to replace the 1st installment's dark and emotional bad guys with some lame, generic anime characters was one of his worst, and in fact ridiculed the series. Yes, the 1st game had a shaman and a psychic, but they were discreetly placed in the game and the world. Suddenly there are undead and mutants, and a parasitic spirit living in a severed hand possessing people.

Attempts to recapture the mood of the cutscenes and excellence of music and voice-acting seen in the 1st game have failed as well.

The realism, emotion and dark atmosphere of the series has been forever lost.

If MGS1 is Terminator 2, then the rest are like Terminator 3. There's no comparison between the titles.

Guys, it doesn't look too good. I'm afraid that the 4th installment is going to suck. I hope that it just sucks like the 3rd installment and not uber-sucks like the 2nd installment.

Heinous-Uranus

Your lack of imagination isn't really my concern. And you lost all credibility when you have signed up a new account just to post this.

i disagree with the TC but he does have a slight point. I don't think the other games have lived up to the first one as of yet. But MGS4 is still going to rock hard.

i dont' like the MGS series at all but basing talent off of if you like a game or not doesn't seem right to me. i think talent has to do with the quality of the game and level of detail and craftsmanship put into the game. and for kojima these have always been high, at least in my opinion. you may not like the game, but kojima definetly puts a lot of work into them.

I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to disagree with you my friend. MGS series is an exhilarating experience for any gamer. The graphics are great, and though the storyline is sometimes ridicules, it still holds an audience.

Oh no sir I am not insulting you at all here... it is just I dont understand... so you mean to tell me before that game came out you or someone thought that after MGS1 that the MGS2 story would go the way it did... if so I would like to shake their hand or your hand...

To tell the truth MGS1 was more predicatable to me... A clone of the main character takes a secret weapon hostage so he can get the remains of the original solider so he can stay alive... but dude I am not attacking you I am just trying to understand you a little....

oh LOL...

Heinous-Uranus

I have to agree with this guy on this one... I mean, come on! like if the brain of liquid was on his hand. liquid ocelot haha

Are you an MGS player?

Kojima is has a lot of talent, forget graphics. Whoever said that is wrong, he puts this atmosphere in the game and right away you know it's his work. (Not even counting innovation)

You think MGS2 sucks? WTF is wrong with you?

Sorry but that cannot slide.

i didn't like mgs2.. and only played a little bit of mgs3, but to say hideo has no talent? that's like saying the game designers at bungie have no talent because they didn't add anything new to the halo experience, but halo 3 sold millions and people love the brand. just because you don't like his games you don't need to hate on the guy. imo mgs is easily a top 10 greatest game of all time along with halo.. these games were a breath of fresh air when they were first released. it's difficult to duplicate that unless you start up a new ip. sequels are sequels. you know that.

Terminator 3 bad man i actually loved that movie. Now i could see if you said the Terminator tv series: The Sarah Connor Chronicles because it pretty much says the movies storylines don't exist because they went into the future. I think Kojima has become a little overrated but thats about it he is very good though.

i feel you need to understand that "lol" means; 'laugh out loud'. Not; 'hi', *smiles*, 'and', 'so', 'therefore' or 'seriously' and is dosnt replace caps either so stop using it as if it were common punctuation, do you think you could take someone seriously if they screamed "GAZABOODAA!" at the beginning and end of each phrase? Atleast you could say he has torette syndrom and cant help it...

On to the topic, i agree that the MGS story tends to take some strange turns but it makes up with a truck load of deep, story, and even then, the oddities only add to the expericence giving us decent boss fights and mysteries to keep the fans interested. Pretty much every game has some questionable turn of events/elements, atleast Kojima turns them to an interesting advatage.

I get moderated for trolling, yet the TC's guilty of it. Thanks GS.

You or anyone in this forum isn't obligated to agree with anything I may say here. You knew that this thread was going to get replies from all angles since a lot of gamers here enjoy the MGS franchise.

Lol, so should I have started by posting something that agrees with your opinion?

I think my critisism was quite well defined. Heinous-Uranus

Thread failed when you said this...

What? MGS 1 is my favorite game of all time...Heinous-Uranus

Then you say that the one key person involved in delivering one of the most epic franchises to ever grace a console for the past 20 years, has no talent?

Wait you loved MGS? That game is loaded with pseudophilosophy and spiritualism.

"Can love bloom on a battlefield snake?"

I don't see how the sequels have any more or less than the first game did. Heck I felt MGS3 had the least amount of it of the three games.

I've been playing the metal gear solid games since before the original came out *demo disc*, and you make some vaild points though. Mgs1 felt real. Sure, you had psycho mantis, but that was the only thing that sortof took me out. Even rex looked and felt real. But mgs2 came along, and felt like a fiction mess. Mgs3 even more so. Mgs3 had a goofy sort of feel if you watch all the cutscenes.

Its not like mgs2 and mgs3 are bad, but they atmosphere isn't as good. I'm really starting to believe it was a bad idea harry gregson williams is the music composer. Go back and play the original metal gear solid all the way. Amazing soundtrack. Mgs2-mgs3 felt more catchy, than epic. Mgs2 was nearly all catchy, music wise.

At least mgs4, will be in a future setting, and feel more like the original. Even mgo is shaping up, to be 5 times better than mgs3's *which, was pretty bad anyways*.

... hmm.. what was that.. I'm sorry.. I couldn't hear your over your lack of sense, mindless drivel and overwhelming struggle to understand anything that resembles a great storyline....

I just love how a insulting topic like this can exist on a PS3 board, but god forbid something like this about Halo in the 360 board. It would immediately get locked, deleted, and the TC would get banned or moderated. Ridiculous how you GS mods favor one side over the other. That's the one thing I hate about this site.
