Really? Only 64 people, in a single server? I was under the assumption that ALL PS3 owners would be able to interact with each other. 64 people? That just took the "Wow" out of it.rappid_rabbitLink :?
he misunderstood the article, it is 64 people per area, for example when u go to the arcade section a maximum of 64 people will be there, , the server will hold X amount of people but when u visit a specific area it will filter 64 people groups into them, there could be 3700 people in the arcade but u see the 64 random people it chose, the ppl in there also see the same 64.which is just about right why would u want to walk to the arcade and then there be 200 ppl talking at the same time, that bee total crap, a mess.Caimstro
interesting

Each area is split up into multiple instances. You can interact with the other 63 people in your area or contact friends and jump to their instance. It is unrealistic to expect for everyone to be able to exist in the same area at one time.
64 ppl simultaneously per instance of the main public areas...
basically you won't see a mass of 2000 ppl crowding the place as soon as you log in, which i think is a good thing...
they also have a system in place so that you and your friends on your friends list can log in and be in the same instance of the world.
Sorry, yes it seemed I misunderstood the article. Only 64 people in the lobby. After that lobby has filled up, a new lobby will spring up...or something. But still I thought you could interact with everybody in the whole PS3 nation. I thought it was a real virtual world. Eh Home doesnt seem that great to me anymore. rappid_rabbitI'll say it again. It is *not* possible and was highly unrealistic of you to expect to be able to see everyone at one time. Having multiple instances is *not* limiting your ability to interact with the community. Please, stop whining about it.
But 2000 people talking at the same time would have been freaking awesome!!! Am I the only person that thinks so? I thought the PS3 could handle this type of stuff. Of course there would be a system in place, so you know, random people cant interrupt your convo...but man, I really had envisioned a different type of Home.rappid_rabbitthe PS3 might be able to handle it, but the internet couldn't.

It doesn't work that way.
i'm sure they could make it up to 1000 people a time that would be much better...tatu2004Even that is unreasonable. Go log into an MMO and watch as the numbers climb to 200 in one area. You'll notice the server start to crawl. Start increasing that number and you risk server crashes.

do you know how much bandwidth you would need to have to stream info from 1999 other people?
technically not possible

Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up.
PS: nice Sig.
Wow, why would you complain about this? You saw the space available in the trailer for Home.. imagine 2,000,000 + PS3 gamers all in that same lobby..E_x_i_l_e"Hey Jonny, you here? Yeah.... Im over by the guy in the Resistance Tshirt. Dude, everyones wearing a resistance tshirt".
64 is just right. Just imagine if theres over 100 people in a room, total lag... but anyway, we'ill see how the Beta looks this april.
Speaking of home, do you guys think that when Home arrives in the fall, will the PSN be integrated to the point were Sony can run the gaming servers like Live, because of the revenue that they are putting out of home through ads? Not to mention enhanced integrated buddy list, voice chat, etc. becuase if it does, that can pwn...

Uh, yeah I really think you are the only one who thinks so. I'm sorry, but everybody who has ever played games like SWG (original version) and gone through cities like coronet/Theed/Bestine knows that alot of people in a small space spamming messages is misery.

Exactly the same system as Guild Wars. Instanced areas, and you can probably hop to and from different instances if you dislike some of the people in one instance (maybe they are being fools, or for whatever reason) or your friends are all on a different instance, and you can switch to it to join them.
Although I would be surprised if it was that small a number, hopefully we will be able to have more than 64 people in one instance. I guess that also depends on how large each area in Home is though.
i'm sure they could make it up to 1000 people a time that would be much better...tatu2004that would be insane chaos.
