I've played the BETA--Home is fun, but the novelty does wear off after a week. And really, IF ANYONE here just goes to "HOME" to interact and socialize with strangers---then really, you need to put down that controller and get some sunlight. All this will be is just for nerds looking for women. Sony knows people will pay to buy stuff----the sad part is that's true. I guess that's where their revenue for their online service will come from.feryl06

Never said I didn't like it, just said the novelty will wear off in a week or so for many. I was interested in what it had to offer, but seeing it for what it is or what it will become, then it's not for me. I don't understand how "I pretty much kicked my own behind" for checking it out? i was just on last night with my cousin and the lag in the mics is so bad you cant have a conversatuion cause we always block eachother out and are like ohh wait are you saying something cause we were on the phone trying to set it all up and there was a good 3second delay from the phone to the mics on home

Why shouldn't it have the 'hype it has created'? It has been talked about for such a long time that it's inevitable there is 'hype' attached to its long-awaited release. Does it merit the type of hype that surrounds AAA gaming titles? No, it's an app not a game...but an app unlike any other on previous ps consoles nonetheless. Out of the box it's a little bare but what makes this interesting (for me and probably many others) is the POTENTIAL of the product. It has the possiblity of transforming the ps3 gaming community into something more network friendly...and since it's never been done before in quite this way, it's a given that there's going to be hype or buzz...and umm, it is free so, kinda hard for something free to fall short of any hype. Just my two cents.

I don't work for Sony so I can only speculate as to its "goal and motive." I think that is attempting to be a synchronatic union of Sony and the gaming community. Its success will depend on the relationship that exists between the two. Sony has the responsibility of filling up the virtual space with activities/environs that entice the community to interact...and the gamers have the task of pulling off that interaction. Here is where I see a bit of similarity between Home and sandbox-type games or community-dependent games such as LBP. The community will ultimately decide whether this is worthy or not. The more that use it, the more potential it will inherently have. One of the key developments is the use of gaming launch-points such as has been talked about with Far Cry 2, Resistance 2, etc...There are times when one's friends list is bare of on-line comrads, and the Home community may provide gamers who would never have interacted before an opportunity to spark gaming relationships. One of the criticisms of PSN and games such as R2 is there is no consistency of communication with online team-mates (In R2 after every co-op mission you are bumped back into the lobby and out of your group.) Home could provide a wonderful opportunity to either start a base of game friends who are interested in the same titles or genres (again the game lauch-points are key) or to further expand upon what's already established.

I could write more, but this wall of text is beginning to get too high :P In the end, I don't see how this could be a bad thing...I just see its potential which admittedly depends on the two factors I already enumerated. Sony and the gaming community itself.

I really don't understand Sony's logic on the announcement today. They only give 24 hours notice after denying rumours yesterday.

Now given how high profile Home is for the PS3, and how long it has been in development/delayed, you'd have thought they would want everyone to know well in advance exactly when it would be available.

I can't imagine this sort of thing happening with other big name titles like MGS4 or GT5, just sneaking them out with only a days notice

Guess I will give it a shot, its too bad PS3 has bad online though :(. They should definitely move to Xbox 360's pay model.

Yes, if the price was modest (not $50) I would gladly pay to have a better Playstation Network experience. PSN compared to Live is so bare bones and the experience itself is erratic, it has good days and bad days. I'd rather drop a few bucks to have almost all good days and only a handfull of bad ones.

Open beta will be tomorrow, and I have to agree with you. It's going to be disappointing seeing everyone bash Home when they aren't really informed on what it is. It's not a game, just a central place for PSN users to connect everyone.PainGivingLink
