Hi,

This is the first next gen console I have had.

I have been playing games as normal but people keep saying I should link it up to the internet and play online and also I should link it up to ensure my playstation 3 always has latest software (which it will get automatically if its linked to internet).

Im confused, If I dont intend to play online much is it worth linking up? Mind you if playing online is as good as everyone says maybe I will be pleasently suprised?

Can anyone help? Im not very technical and dont even know how to start getting internet on ps3? :0)

I would say get online ASAP, you can download vital PS3 firmware updates (1.60 adds more backwards compatibility) and you can download demos and some free content (games, trailers etc). To get online just plug your ethernet cable (came with PS3) into your router and ps3 goto network settings on the ps3 and just goto internet settings and select automatic for adjusting the settings.

Right I have done that (I hope I have done it right) a black cable with 2 clear ends. 1 end I put into a socket on my router which said ethernet 1 (there was also a ethernet 2 hole aswel) and the other end I put into the back of the PS3 (there was only one hole that it would fit into) Have I done it right? Now what? thanks :)

Turn on your PS3:

Go to this page, http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/connectwired.html

For detailed instruction how to test your PS3

If you have Resistance, go play it online now! It's so fun, and it will show you what online can be like:).

Don't necessarily have to know anyone- just jump into a game and go. :) When you check out the online portion of any game you should see a list of lobbies or games that people have set up. just head into one that is looking for players and enjoy.

Connecting to a Resistance game is simple, there are ranked games and unranked, ranked games auto find a servers of your playing skill (but your actions on that server, kills deaths etc, will go on your stats sheet) an unranked server you find yourself through a list of them (just pick a server that has quite a few people in) You'll get the hang of it eventually. Happy online gaming.

Playing online is a must. But I would suggest you familiarise yourself with this kind of thing and keep up to date, cause in the future it's bound to get even more complicated. Get use to it, make it a daily thing and read up and study on it. Kids in school are picking up on this very easily at a rapid rate, we adults need to stay on top aswell. (I for one don't have this problem, but it's always good to suggest this type of thing, cause people willing to help won't be around all the time)

Man, I love playing resistance online. I usually rack up a lot of kills without dying much. I like the aircraft carrier map with loads of people. Its havoc! My ID is octanedude by the way.

Well, not knowing is one thing. Wanting to learn it is another. I mean, "I put Need For Speed Carbon in, now what?" Come on. If you don't know ANYTHING especially after you put a game in (which really is a NO BRAINER) then why did you spend that kind of money on a PS3 in the first place? PS3 is for gamers, not to make yourself look cool. Like I said, read up, study up on it and pay attention. But seriously, if you've asked that question, help ain't comming. A 5 year old knows what to do when a game is in. What kind of responce did you expect?

Well Danielle, I am glad to hear you got your ps3 up and running. Not everyone is a tech nerd like some of these guys. If you need detailed help with this, go to the hardware forums and you will find EVERYTHING you need.

Another bit of advice....Don't give your true name out online, especially if you are a girl. There are alot of crazy people in this world that like to take advantage of others or cause harm.

Dont be bothered by some of the posters on this board. You will find the maturity level varies greatly from thread to thread. It seems that people love to troll for others who may be having a hard time, or who arent as technically savvy as they.

Good luck and enjoy that awesome gaming monster you now own.

I can get stuffed with some good food if that'll help, cause I'm hungry:P

I don't mean to sound harshe, but it's not like deciphering 2048 incryption code code or anything. Some things (especially the obviously simple ones) you should be able to figure out for yourself. If you're new to gamming, then I'm sorry, but you should've got yourself a Wii if that were the case.
