Only the ones with 4 usb ports... One of the 80 GB versions doesn't have BC. But yeah, you'll need an older model to do that...

if your PS3 have 4 USB ports then you can play PS2 games, if not then you can not play PS2 games. FYI any PS3 can play PS1 games.

Funny, you bought a product before learning what it can actually do.

If your PS3 has 2 USB ports, it won't be able to play PS2 games. Only the PS3's with 4 USB ports (the 20 GB, 60 GB and 4 USB 80 GB) can play PS2 games. The PS2 thing at the PSN store is only for the PS3's that can already play PS2 games. It's for the PS2 games that require a hard drive (like Final Fantasy 11).

no, whats funny is he bought an expensive HD system to play old SD games......customers at my work went al weird about his too when the first pice drop happened and BC was taken out here in Australia.

original launch BC= $999AU

no BC price drop model =$699

PS2 price at the time >$200AU

Therefore new PS3+ps2 for BC=lower price then first PS3

No one buys a PS3 just to play PS2 games. However, some people do play last gen games. It's better to have one system to play all your games rather than setting up 2 systems.

Well...you can only play PS2 games on your PS3 if your PS3 is the 20, 40, or 60 GB model.

I have the 60gb UK launch model. Bought at the time I saw the new 40gb being released which looked crap in comparrison and didn't have PS2 compatability. Only problem, is that I've not bothered to play any of my 30 PS2 games and I don't see the point either. But I still think the launch model looks the best. And is the most quiet and best built.

Not true, I have the 40Gb and can't, it's just the 4 USB port (as stated above) with 60 or 80Gb

If anybody is wondering "why did they stop making the ps3 BC models?" The PS2 game production was still in full effect and it was hurting their PS2 sales (which also dropped in price back in 05-06) Our game store had so many PS2 games leaving the shelves, but no Ps2 hardware at all after PS3 release

I have the 60GB and it can play but I don't really play ps2 games on it, pointless to me.. I play on my PS2 Slim instead.
