Stupid and pointless...

1. Make sure the monitor is HDCP compliant, if it isn't, wont work.

2. If it has HDMI, use it, or buy a DVI/HDMI converter.

3. Buy this, http://www.amazon.com/Cables-To-Go-Stereo-Adapter/dp/B000J1H4VI/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1338815537&sr=1-6

4. Buy this, http://www.amazon.com/Cables-To-Go-Stereo-Coupler/dp/B00007FGUF/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1338815609&sr=1-1

5. Use Component audio into RCA adapter (step 3), then RCA into 3.5mm adapter (step 4), then plug the other female end to PC speakers.

6. Play

the ClimaxDigital product isn't necessarily the cheapest option by any means, but my brother uses one at university and has no issues, save for the fact that the monitor used was made before the release of the PS3 generally and consequently doesn't support high definition - not sure where 'stupid and pointless' comes in as it's clearly relevant to what 'is' possible, which is what was being asked - those on the fence can read the product description/reviews and decide for themselves if it's what they're looking for ....
