I am thinking about getting a PS3 and a LCD monitor for it. What is the best connection to use to hook it up? And do all new LCD monitors support 720p, 1080i, and 1080p? How do you get sound?

First of all I think you mean a TV monitor not a computer monitor right?

Some will connect with component cables and audio cables, some with HDMI. HDMI sends an audio signal with it so you won't need the additional audio cables. If its new it probably won't have DVI, but be aware that DVI don't support audio.

As far as the resolution, try to get 1080p for the better viewing possible with the ps3, for software that supports it of course. Some LCDs may not support 1080p.

I say the best to connect with is HDMI. HD video and Digital sound though one connection, thats the way to go.

I'd get a monitor with HDMI. Also look for the best contrast ratio you can find is my advice. The higher the contrast ratio the better the color shades will blend together. The separation between light and dark will be better.

most monitors support 1680x1050 which is true 1050p... unless it states it can run 1080p...

you need a DVI to HDMI cable... and a monitor with DVI input on the back...

for the sound you need a 3.5mm Phono Male to RCA stereo female cable and the original audio/video cables supplied with the ps3... as well as a monitor that has built in speakers...

I have a SCEPTRE 20.1" 1080p monitor... and it works well...

this actually not true, I have a Viewsonic with built in speakers and HDMI port 22 inch widescreen,4 USB ports, mic portand it has an Ipod dock. It's freakin sweet, but I dont use it for gaming. It has decent speakersbuit nothing great.

Computer lcd monitors do not have speakers,Tv lcd monitors do support sound, that is usually why computer monitors are cheaper, also tv monitors have a tv tuner.

Anyway, get a monitor with HDMI. Also look for the best contrast ratio you can find is my advice. The high the contrast ratio the better the color shades will blend together. The separation between light and dark will be better.

Well I'm considering getting a LCD HDTV instead of a LCD monitor. Because with the LCD HDTV, I can easily hook up both my computer and the PS3 to it. I think I will hook up the PS3 to the HDMI connection, and my computer to the VGA connection. And if I ever did want to watch television on it, it has the capability.
