I absolutely loved fallout 3 and nV but i never gave oblivion or skyrim a chance. How do they compare? The thing i was scared about skyrim was it seems like its only melee, i was a big fan of the vats system in fallout and the whole setting was cool. Can someone fill me in?

Skyrim is a great game and is,in my opinion, better than fallout 3 and NV. Its more streamlined and less complex than oblivion so you should try it. But (since this is the PS3 forum) I wouldn't recommend getting the PS3 version. From what I've seen and heard, it's still the most buggy and glitched among the 3 platforms. So I'd say you get it for 360 or PC.

Yes, if you have a decent PC get it on that. I can't stress how much better it is over either the PS3 or Xbox versions. The PS3 version isn't horrible or unplayable, but it does suffer from a lot of framerate issues and bugs.

Its a great game, but I think the Fallout series just POOPS all over TES series. In particular, I think the SPECIAL system is much more interesting, the universe and characters much more intriguing, and the dark humor and survival all amazing.

Skyrim is fun, but even with the PC version I have and some decent mods, its not as epic to me as vanilla Fallout 3 or New Vegas. Admittedly though, it is incredibly beautiful and gives me high hopes for the next Fallout game on that engine.

Both Skyrim and Fallout 3/NV are some great piece of work. It's hard to say which one there is the best game, because they both have something the other one don't have. In Fallout 3/NV you got a lot more options to complete quests and the game got 5 different endings (I think) depending on how you play through the main quests. In Skyrim you can do a lot more then in Fallout 3/NV. A lot of quests to complete, skills to level up and I have always liked mythological creatures, but then again, you don't got as much freedom around the main quests as in Fallout 3/NV. But for me, the best one is Skyrim.

Purely subjective but Fallout is alot more fun than Elder Scrolls.

After playing and enjoying the Fallout games, I finally gave Skyrim a try, and so far I'm really liking it. There are a fairly good number of similarities it has between Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Having not played any other games from the series, I was surprised at how fast I got into Skyrim. I've spent roughly 50 hours on it so far and still have tons and tons of stuff to do. I'd say it easily has more content than the Fallout games, but personally I'm still more of a fan of Fallout's setting and whatnot. Still, Skyrim to me is just as addicting.

they are both great series and should be played but for me because i am getting bored of fantasy themed games and i love post Apocalypse setting so i like the fallout games better even tho the maps are smaller and they seem to have more hidden things to find.

Skyrim is the better game, but Fallout is the better RPG.

Skyrim is a much more polished game than Fallout; the graphics look a lot nicer, the animations are better, the combat is smoother, ect. The one major problem I have with Skyrim though is the leveling system. You level up by increasing your skills, just like the other Elder Scrolls games. The problem with this though is that some skills are almost impossible to get maxed if you're playing the game normally, and because of this, you'll have to grind and do trivial things in order to level some of the skills. In contrast, in Fallout you level up by completing quests, completing challenges, and killing enemies. So in other words, you have to be actually accomplishing goals to level in Fallout, where in Skyrim you level up by making hundreds of iron daggers, or casting a magic spell over and over gain on yourself just to level the skill up. You could choose not to grind in Skyrim, but if you do, many skills will likely never hit 100.

TL;DR - Skyrim is more polished, and has better gameplay, but Fallout has a better leveling up system.

It's a great game. But I liked the atmosphere and quests a lot better in Fallout 3.
