The PS3 came out in 2006, which means that we wont see a PS$ until possibly 2013 at the least as Sony's console seem to have a 10 year product cycle with a 2 or 3 year overlap with previous generations. By that time the Cell would have matured into a true beast. My guess specs would be a In order execution 8 core CPU @ 8-10 Ghz with each core loaded with 32-64 SPUs'. GPU would be somewhere in the vicinity of whats offered with PCs' give or take a year or so.
As it stands right now, the only edge PCs' have over PS3 is the ever increasing GPU upgrades. CPU wise, the Cell B.E. has no peer when it comes to multimedia applications. For example Blu-Ray decoding is a breeze for the Cell, can be handled with just one SPU where as it may eat up to 25-40% of your PCs' cpu cycle depending on your GPU. Picture processing is not even close, PS3s' can process hundreds of high megapixel pics faster than PCs' doing a dozen or so. With that said, genreal purpose use the current Cell B.E. @ 3.2Ghz is probably in the neighberhood of a Athlon 64 @ 2.8Ghz or so it kneels down to a Core2 Duo architecture clock for clock until vector, floating point comes into play, then the tables are truely turned.

Your thinking like a woman whose just gone shopping for new cloths, and then planning to go out the next day to buy new ones again.
We've got Ps3's and that's all that matters, Its still new so don't start thinking about the next see whats in front of you and use it. And instead of tring to think of Ps4 think of new games for Ps3.
P.S sorry if my example offended anyone
What color will it be?what will be the price?will the games be in 100GB discs?Feel free to express your thoughts... :)blacksheep1474
it will be bright yellow
the price will be 10x the average persons income
games will come on discs the size of pizzas with enough capacity to hold the internet 20 times over
amazingly it wont use electricity, instead being powered by postive thinking.
Sony have also said that the system will feature 20 controller ports, although dual shock has been scrapped as no one wants it in the future.
It will look something like this:
It will be black at first. Silver later on. It will be approximately the same size as the PS3. It will have a 1TB Solid State hard drive for super fast loading. It will utilize blu-ray again because blu-ray rocks. It will likely be backwards compatible with PS3 only. But it will have PS2 and PS1 games as digital downloads. Controller will be similar to the PS3 controller. And they will bring back those awesome commercials from the PS1 days. "PLAYSTASHION"xeon71Best idea yet. Totaly agree with the utilization of SSDs.
I also believe its way too early to start speculating on PS4....what excites me is that the PS3 is only just starting to peak in terms of tapping its potential...beekayjayI agree, some guy said their only tapping 40%, whether that number is precise, I don't know, but it's only going to get better. Has anybody ever compared early PS2 pics to late PS2 pics (like Metal Gear Solid 3?)

Last I heard, Linux was working on a device that allows you to upgrade the PS3 so it can play Linux Cpu games through Yellowdog v6 (or something like that). I hope they're still workin' on it.

I thought I heard that the PS3's GPU, the Nvidia RSX is not even going to be avaliable to the public until 2012 or something insane?
Maybe it was a bunch of bull dung, but that just means that the GPU industry is just going to keep getting crazier as the years go by...
