Vita has PS4 level graphics so expect games to like 1000 times better than PS3.

I don't know the actual numbers, but Sony has clarified the rumours, saying that the Vita is not nearly as powerful in sheer pixel-pushing as the PS3, but you've got to consider it's got about half as many pixels to push as the PS3 usually does. Basically, what we'll have is something comparable to the way the PSP looked compared to the PS3. Not quite PS3-quality, but PS3-comparable graphics. Maybe it is 40% less power, but you've a much more modest screen resolution to render at, so it will mostly balance out in order to have graphics so close to the PS3 that you'll barely be able to tell the difference.

I don't get it, most PS3 games aren't in native 720p or 1080p (though a good amount are, especially first party games) so how would most 640p PS3 games compare?

Vita has more Ram, which is a plus since it seemed like a bottleneck on the ps3.

I still all comes down to games available. A system is only as good as the games made for it (consider the 3DS and its weak lineup).

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=4624 Taking a look at this, I'd say that most PS3 game are definitely running in 720p, and not just the first-party titles. Only a few run at 640p.

The Vita is a handheld, it looks good at its resolution, but still no match for PS3.

Both are different architectures so they can't be directly compared.

AND AFAIK, even if you get the pixel fill rate of each they are still not the best way to compare.

like how you can't really directly compare GB, CUDA Stream Processors, Gbps, etc. on the PC ATI vs NV

Some gaming benchmarks would be pefect but as far as I know there aren't those specifically to showcase the VITA's and PS3's prowess.

IMO, the better way to judge its output is for you to test out the device yourself and look at the visuals. although it's a little unfair since the PS3 has been running 5 years and a lot of later games are well optimized for the system and looks very good.

Look for the best graphics of the PS3 during it's earlier years and you may get an idea of what the VITA can do.

If you want more details look here for the numbers for vague comparison

I think we can conclude that the Vita and the PS3 are comparable. There's not a whole lot of difference graphically, but there is some.
