The old 60gb models, something like 200 watts. The same as 2 100 watt lightbulbs running for the same length of time. The 40gb are down to around 120 watts.

I see you read the Gamespot news story, but if you think about it,a fridge isn't a very good source to compare a ps3 with as you always leave a fridge on 24/7 and yet it hardly uses any power at all.

only valid answer. although I am not too sure about the 40gb pwr usage unless they are using the shrinked GPU and cell in the 40Gb (which would be a pretty big news and would likely apply to 80gb as well)

The 40gb models got the 65nm cell chips. There was some mix up though, and apparently some of the 40's got the older model cell chips. RSX has yet to be shrunk down. The new 80's might use the 65nm chips as well, there was news about a new heatsink being made for the ps3 a while back, and the MGS4 bundle is technically a new sku. I haven't heard anything about it though, just speculating.

He ties the plug to hamsters and have them run on the wheelie things 24/7 to power his PS3. I am not sure if he will respond though since I heard he's being picked up for animal cruelty.

You could have also read the booklet that comes with it, instead of creating such an unnecessary thread
