I was having a video debate withsome fellow gamespot buddies and we started discussing God of war 3.

Things I said were bad about god of war.

- Button smasher

- Lame story

- Average gameplay

Things they said

- More epic then uncharted2, mass effect 2 and final fantasy. ( story wise )

- Combat is wayy more complex then my yakuza3 i like playing.

- Awesome level design and just plain awesome gameplay that can't me beaten by any other game.

---------

Can you honestly say without being a GOW fanboy that the story in God of way is more complex, Suspenseful, story driven then uncharted 2?

I guess what got them mad was that i said i enjoyed Dante's inferno more then god of war 1 and 2.

I just find god of war ok, gameplay is just press triangle, circle, square when told to do so.

Story is almost non-existant.

Am i a bad ps3 owner?

I always thought God of War was too simple of a hack and slash game for me. There aren't very many combos.. it just seemed like God of War was to the hack and slash genre what Modern Warfare is to the FPS genre: simple and accessible.

That doesn't necessarily make it a bad game, but I've already got Dynasty Warriors as my primary mindless hack and slash game.

Also, I never really liked Kratos.

Nothings wrong with you. It's just your opinion. Just like some people hate Halo or MW2. It just doesn't float thier boat. I love Gow but that's just my opinion.

There's nothing wrong with voicing an opinion. And personally, Uncharted 2 is my favorite game of all time now and I think that saying there are moments that are bigger and more epic in God of War 2, that's a tall order and I'm going to be expecting it now :)

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with voicing your opinion. (Unless you go on the SW board) So don't think there's something wrong with you just because you don't like God of War. I don't like it either as well, so you're not alone.

*exasperated sigh* Ok, seriously guys, sit down and let's have a talk. If you don't like a popular hyped up game from a successful series, that does not, in any fashion imaginable, make you or your view special or unique. At all. it just doesn't. Lot's of people don't like every game that comes out. So please, for the love of Bob, stop trying to make it out to be something it isn't.

objection, lies and slander! the story is of high quality. i liked how the first game was told through the lens of kratos' attempted suicide. it gives the game a perspective that is through the protagonist and therefore personal to the player despite how broad in scope it gets. also, the reason for kratos's pale skin has an appropriate greek tragedy flavor. the resultant tale of revenge links in with the player's ultra violence with surpising catharsis

as for the combat, i agree that it isnt as deep as dmc or ninja gaiden (although the addition of counters in gow2 helped it out a bit). however, its still rewarding in that you get to see the brilliantly choreographed finishers. it never wears thin because santa monica balances it properly with huge puzzles and platforming segments.

Well thank you for mentioning me :p

Steve is right in that your view is not necessarily special or unique just because you try to put down a hyped up game (to go against the flow). It's no different than those kids at school who dress differently and listen to obscure bands, not because they like to, but because they're trying to be special by being different.

At the thread creator, I'm not saying that's you. It's an opinion which you are entitled to.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with you having you own opinion on a game. I think sometimes gamers tend to get all caught up in review scores or simple word of mouth as to whether they should or shouldn't buy a game. If you don't like a particular genre, all of the fancy visuals in the world aren't going to suddenly make it more appealing.

Take me for example. I personally dont like the GTA series or many pure open world games like Oblivion or Fallout 3. That is alsowhy I haven't picked up iNfamous yet. I prefer story driven games with a somewhat linear path like Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2 and Resident Evil 5.

I tried playing the GOW3 demo and found it to be pretty dull. Most of it is just brainless hack and slash. The only exciting parts are the ATB sequences, but if I want an exhilerating ATB experience then I'll go replay Heavy Rain. GOW3 has nothing on DMC or Ninja Gaiden imo.

have you played the other games in the series? you can't judge the god of war series on the short 10 minute GOW3 demo. and to the TC, its fine that you dont like GOW, but its weird that you say that GOW is just a mindless button masher but that you liked dantes inferno when the controls and combat is just about the exact same.

THIS. Add Kratos' personality (problem) and him feeding into the blood-lust of gamers and we have a no-go for me. I actually find both unneeded.

Watered down version of God of War, but all the same: SNAP. That's terrible. I hope he liked it for the story and atmosphere rather than for the combat.

Nothing wrong with you mate. You don't find the game interesting and that's perfectly fine but on the other side I usually cut a finger to anyone who mention it to me in real life.

P.S : I love the game in case you were wondering. ;)

TC, Your opinion is the opposite of mine.

Button masher - To an extent, but If I just mash buttons I die. I need to block, dodge, and use combos to succeed in a battle. Can't just mindlessly smash buttons.

Story - I like the story quite a bit... I know its not an accurate representation of greek mythology, but its still fun. (its very similar to the story of hercules) And I like Kratos, the ultimate anti-hero

Game play - Game play is great in my opinion, the core game play mechanics work well. The game play switches up and never gets stale.

I haven't played GOWIII, but as of yet this series is one of my favorites. (as well as Prince of Persia, Uncharted, and Final Fantasy) God Of War = Awesomeness

I see where your coming from tho, Everyone seems to love the metal gear series and the Grand theft auto series, but I hate both. Sooooo boring IMO

It might be considered a button masher on the easier difficulties but once you play on the hardest mode, it becomes more than a button masher. If you plan on button mashing on the hardest mode, you won't beat the game. Simple as that.

It's unfortunate that most of the haters never played past easy mode or they would be crying trying to beat there first fight on god mode. The combat is simplistic for the casuals but their is plenty for the hardcore to play with.

There's alot of depth to it, use your imagination people.....Kratos has launchers and can switch weapons mid-attack for a reason....

Also the graphics, story, and characters own Bayonetta and Ninja Gaydan anyway.

Yup, especially since I provided many examples, although I guess that part went over your head. I won't judge.

I guess I should have just destroyed your points instead of suggesting it.

My apologies.

Let me provide you with a piece of information: "Using my imagination" does not equate to "Many examples". Neither does the weapon switch. If anything, most Kratos fans would do well not to bring it up, seeing how it is...."inspired" from Devil May Cry's gameplay, which invented mid-weapon change. All you're doing is scratching the barrel for your beloved game. In fact, you're doing exactly what every other person does when they're running out of logic: insults. Kudos.

Again, if someone wants to call God of War shallow, then perhaps it's because they've actually experienced games with more depth. It's not a hard concept actually. I'm sure even someone who seems to want to defend Kratos to a fanboyish extent can grasp that logic. Right, Kori-san? (If not, I suggest you switch yourself out for someone who understands the art of debate)

The reason I scoffed at you the first time is because the whole theory that casuals think it's shallow, but the hardcore seemingly know it's not, is silly. And the more you talk, the easier it is for me to point out the reasons. Such as your many examples including and limited to: "Imagination" and "Mid weapon switching". As if every other excellent Hack and Slash formula didn't better or perfect this. The question is, will you keep talking yourself into an hilarious conversation, or did you have something substantial you didn't add the first time?

Can you honestly say without being a GOW fanboy that the story in God of way is more complex, Suspenseful, story driven then uncharted 2?

I guess what got them mad was that i said i enjoyed Dante's inferno more then god of war 1 and 2.

I just find god of war ok, gameplay is just press triangle, circle, square when told to do so.

Story is almost non-existant.

Am i a bad ps3 owner?

I am not a GOW fanboy but I completely agree with your GS buddies & completely disagree with you. However, it's your opinion. Uncharted 2 hasn't any special story, so obviously GOW story is more complex. I didn't enjoy Dante's Inferno as much as GOW1, GOW2 or Darksiders. GOW3 & GOW collection are both must buys & day 1 purchases, for me...

[QUOTE="Kori-san"]

[QUOTE="ProjectTrinity"] Casuals call it simplistic but the hardcore says it has depth? I see Kratos fans will switch around just about anything to defend him.ProjectTrinity

Although the controls really aren't too complicated, once you get good at the game you can string together some nice combos, and on the higher difficulties you have to use the parries and rolls etc. I agree, though, that its not nearly as complex as Ninja Gaiden's controls. I can't really comment on the Devil May Cry games as I've never played them.

I'm sorry, what exactly is your problem with God of War gameplay?

Ironically, I have absolutely no problem with God of War's gameplay, minus the jumping animation and the use of blood/gore/violence. And I guess the fact it's a wee too slow for my taste. But those are really nitpicks that shouldn't warrant a Kratos-bash. I just pointed out the logical hole in his statement about hardcores and casuals since it didn't sit well with me. I don't even think most casual gamers even care or know what "shallow" is. They're just gaming for fun. And yes, Ninja Gaiden was the first game that came to mind for me in terms of mastering depth in a hack/slash game. :P
