[QUOTE="Kori-san"]

[QUOTE="ProjectTrinity"] Casuals call it simplistic but the hardcore says it has depth? I see Kratos fans will switch around just about anything to defend him.ProjectTrinity

Yup, especially since I provided many examples, although I guess that part went over your head. I won't judge.

I guess I should have just destroyed your points instead of suggesting it.

My apologies.

Let me provide you with a piece of information: "Using my imagination" does not equate to "Many examples". Neither does the weapon switch. If anything, most Kratos fans would do well not to bring it up, seeing how it is...."inspired" from Devil May Cry's gameplay, which invented mid-weapon change. All you're doing is scratching the barrel for your beloved game. In fact, you're doing exactly what every other person does when they're running out of logic: insults. Kudos.

Again, if someone wants to call God of War shallow, then perhaps it's because they've actually experienced games with more depth. It's not a hard concept actually. I'm sure even someone who seems to want to defend Kratos to a fanboyish extent can grasp that logic. Right, Kori-san? (If not, I suggest you switch yourself out for someone who understands the art of debate)

The reason I scoffed at you the first time is because the whole theory that casuals think it's shallow, but the hardcore seemingly know it's not, is silly. And the more you talk, the easier it is for me to point out the reasons. Such as your many examples including and limited to: "Imagination" and "Mid weapon switching". As if every other excellent Hack and Slash formula didn't better or perfect this. The question is, will you keep talking yourself into an hilarious conversation, or did you have something substantial you didn't add the first time?

Really? Inspired by the DMC franchise? By the way the Weapon Swap was done in GOW1. Was not seen on DMC until the 3rd in the series. Also where is your proof of Santa Monica being inspired by them? We already have Darksiders and Dante Inferno failer ripping everything from them. You've dodged everything I've said.

My theory is simply confined to the posters in this thread because that's all I seem to see. Bashers who never play it on hard and others who better understand the combats intricacy's because there forced to on God mode.

Also name a Hack an Slash with more depth and why? That ALSO provides a decent story and graphics.

Ironically, I have absolutely no problem with God of War's gameplay, minus the jumping animation and the use of blood/gore/violence. And I guess the fact it's a wee too slow for my taste. But those are really nitpicks that shouldn't warrant a Kratos-bash. I just pointed out the logical hole in his statement about hardcores and casuals since it didn't sit well with me. I don't even think most casual gamers even care or know what "shallow" is. They're just gaming for fun. And yes, Ninja Gaiden was the first game that came to mind for me in terms of mastering depth in a hack/slash game. :PProjectTrinity

Ok. Thats fine. Although now that you mention Ninja Gaiden, Atleast Kratos fits his role :P

I see nothing "NINJA" about Ninja Gaiden.

I was having a video debate withsome fellow gamespot buddies and we started discussing God of war 3.

Things I said were bad about god of war.

- Button smasher

- Lame story

- Average gameplay

Things they said

- More epic then uncharted2, mass effect 2 and final fantasy. ( story wise )

- Combat is wayy more complex then my yakuza3 i like playing.

- Awesome level design and just plain awesome gameplay that can't me beaten by any other game.

---------

Can you honestly say without being a GOW fanboy that the story in God of way is more complex, Suspenseful, story driven then uncharted 2?

I guess what got them mad was that i said i enjoyed Dante's inferno more then god of war 1 and 2.

I just find god of war ok, gameplay is just press triangle, circle, square when told to do so.

Story is almost non-existant.

Am i a bad ps3 owner?

Fightingfan

lol no you are not a bad ps3 owner dude. not everybody is going to like the same games. i think GOW is freaking awesome, mainly because i like greek mythology and the like. i also think the story is pretty cool as well. has god of war done anything new for the hack and slash genre???? not at all, but it does the same stuff to perfection(imo) God Of War as a whole is not for everybody. people like what they like.

i played Bayonetta(360 version) and while a cool game, i did not think it was the greatest thing to come out since megan fox. sure a lot of people will disagree with me about megan fox but hey thats an opinion.

i also think MW2 is a unbalanced overrated pile of horse dung but again, thats an opinion!!

I'll give Kratos the story points over its immediate competition. And (probably) graphics, but gameplay, is where it becomes fuzzy. However, Devil May Cry 1 introduced the weapon switching. Gun to sword and sword to gun with a touch of a button. A shoulder pad button. Hence is why they made it to the Top Games of the Decade =p

i personally feel that God of war is an over-hyped series. I think people just like the mythology and the whole badass thing who dosent its def cool but gameplay wise i feel it has never been up there with the likes of ninja gaiden or DMC. Id take Bayonetta over it as well.

Wait you like yakuza 3 but don't like God of wars game-play? Yes something is wrong with you. If you erase that line then all is normal. I also happen to like the GoW story. However, like I was saying in a different thread if Greek myth isn't your thing then you might not like it.

I don't have anything against gow I really enjoyed the first one, but you have to take into consideration that when it was released it really was teh real thing, I mean you had to take into consideration the moment it was released, I mean lets talk a bit about history, I don't care what some people may say but Devil May Cry invented the genre in 2001, DMC was absolutely fantastic, the 3rd one is simply a masterpiece, anyhow most people didn't try the game which though at the time it may have seem irresistible for some people (me for example) it wasn't as wide appealing as some may think, from among other things being quite difficult and having been released on the start of the ps2 lifecycle , a bit later comes the Xbox counterpart (or copy) which is Ninja gaiden in 2004 or something and also DMC 2 which many said it's crap, now 5 years after DMC and no real decent beat-them-up comes GoW developed by Sony, obviously and exclusive and with unbelievable promotion pointing that fact, it's practically 1/10 as difficult as Devil May Cry, it has a lot higher production values and is basically a button masher, I have nothing against all these facts but what I try to point out is that God Of War is basically the first beat them up who had any possibilities of becoming mainstream, DMC was virtually unplayable by 97% of the population and hadn't release a title in 5 years and Ninja Gaiden is well.. crap, and the only ones who would deny it are fanboys so in the end God Of War took the whole market and obviously became a pretty lovable title and many will defend it with their lives I went a bit off topic, anyway I believe the gameplay wasn't average when it came out as there wasn't really any comparable titles, though for nowadays standards it feel a bit rusty, the game it's EPIC which doesn't mean the story is good, it's epic in the hollywoodean kind of way just more planes on the air and bigger explotions, that's basically what GoW does make unbelievably big scripted bosses to make you feel epic but when you are idk climbing the boss back you end up feeling you are running through a very simplistic level instead of fighting a gigantic boss, they aren't even close as well designed as Shadow Of The Collossus

God of War is a great series and I'am glad I own GoW I and II but a lot of people don't dig hack n slash games (which is fine), oh and for those of you saying the game is too mainstream and wasy play it on the hardest diffculty where you die in about three hits on just the little guys.

God of War is a reasonably simple button masher until you hit Titan mode (God mode in GOW1) then the game shows a surprisngly deep combat system (not deep like DMC or NG). The enemies are really challenging and you have to be pretty good at the game to beat the latter levels on Titan mode

It's not that I don't like God of War 3, it's more like it's too much of the same thing that I haven't not done already, ya feel me? It's still entertaining, regardless. Then again, anything is entertaining after a big fat doobie.

yeah, like a lot of these guys are saying, it's definitely worth the try. I actually didn't like the original God of War and refused to try it 'cause I thought it was dumb. But my friend bought it for my birthday and when I finished it, I realized what a huge mistake I made in not trying it in the first place. there's nothing wrong with not liking it but there's a reason a good portion of people love this game and love the series.

Nothing is wrong with you man. You don't have to like it because everyone else likes it. I have a friend who won't pay $60 for a game if it doesn't have MP. So he'll most likely miss out on some great single player games. That's just him though.

Whatever, enough of this accepting of all opinions nonesense. If someone "hates" Halo, MW2, or Gow, then - 1. they suck too bad at the games to honestly evaluate them, or 2. Yes, there is something wrong with them... as there is something wrong with a good deal of fruitpuffs in this thread. ;) Your welcome, HAND

now first off im a gow fan, but just because its a popular series it doesnt mean there is anything wrong with you for not liking it. i dont like fps's with unrealistic physics (mw2) and i hated what rockstar did with gta4. does that make something wrong with me? no, of course not. it just means were individuals with opinions that arent swayed easily by the rest of the sheep.

i do however disagree with u that the story in the uncharteds being better than the gow's. both uncharted games have extremely parallel stories. i.e. (cursed treasure, monsters, nazis, super annoying final boss fights, etc) dont get it twisted, im on my 5th playthru of u2. i just think that becoming a god, getting stripped of your powers, going to hell (twice) and seeking unyeilding vengeanceis more emotion inspiring. to each his own though.

BOTTOM LINE: buy what u like and enjoy what you play.

Damn... I missed a hell of a western hack and slash vs. eastern hack and slash debate. :|

...whatever, I'll post.. I feel like arguing with someone.

My theory is simply confined to the posters in this thread because that's all I seem to see. Bashers who never play it on hard and others who better understand the combats intricacy's because there forced to on God mode.

Kori-san

Anyway, you shouldn't have to be forced onto the harder difficulties to get to the meatier part of combat. God of War is well accepted because it's simple. You say that people who "hate" on the game are doing so because they haven't even played God mode, but why would anyone want to when what makes God of War so great is the simplicity found in easier modes?

With games like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, the combat is complex and deep no matter what difficulty you're playing on.

What it all boils down to is that God of War on Normal = Square, Triangle and pushing the right analog stick around a bit.

I love what I've palyed of God of War 1 and 2. I've seen the start of GoW 3 and that looks great too. I've finished Dante's Inferno, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, etc.

There's nothing wrong with you for your opinion but there's nothing wrong with him for his either. If you look at Uncharted 2's story it is very predictable and simple. Same with God of War. Niether of them have the complexities of something like Heavy Rain but both have distinct advantages and disadvantages over the other.

Opinions are like buttholes, everyone's got one and many people think others different to theirs stink. :)

In my opinion the God of War story is more intersting as I love the Greek mythology thing. Same thing about Dante's Inferno. I love that they take such a broad topic, break it down to basic elemnts and wedge a game in. Both do it very well IMO.

Uncharted 1 had an awesome story and I thoroughly enjoyed it, #2 wasn't as good IMO but was still a fantastic tale and well delivered. The reason I prefer GoW to this is just because God of War is something I haven't seen before so it's more interesting to me.

I don't really like it either honestly. I'd say it's like a... 6/10 series. Combat is meh, Puzzles are terrible and there are too many of them. But it does have awesome epic music and an overall cool epic feel. If it weren't for so many lamepuzzles, it would be a great game.

There are a lot of posts here... so not sure how everyone else responded.

But I love God of War. I bought the Ultimate Edition of GOW 3 with Pandora's Box. I'll admit, story is very weak. But according to your post, your friend never said the story was better. Your friend said "more epic than" those other games. And if you go by the literal definition of epic, he's probably right. Not sure what that has to do with anything though... unless you just like epics.

Anyway, I'm a fan of Greek mythology, so I guess that's what kind of drew me in. Gameplay is nothing stellar, and the puzzles are often just plain annoying. So it's really the atmosphere and music that gets me.

Oh, and are you a bad PS3 gamer? ...Totally. lol Nah, you're fine.

I like the God of War games, but only because of the art and level design. The story is good, and the setting is awesome, but Kratos is such a one dimensional character. It's like he only exists for the sake of having a "badass" main character. The combat is fun at first, but it gets repetitive and button mashy pretty quickly, and towards the end it can be flat out unfair. I'll be getting God of War III in a couple weeks, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but there's no way it's going to captivate me like Uncharted 2 did, and I highly doubt it will have the same replayability. I did, however, love Chains of Olympus. So no, you're not a bad PS3 owner.
