I'am a new buyer of the psp family, and I wanted to know what would be a good buy, I can get the Go for 219 and the bundle packs for 164. I like the memory of the go but some of the games are priced way to high compared to UMD's. so what should I get?! thanks in advance

How important is portability to you? Would you use the bluetooth feature of the Go at all (headphones, PS3 controller, ect)? Do you have a habit of losing/breaking game discs? Have you played either of the systems before? Need a bit more information before I can give you an honest answer. I just don't see how you're approaching this purchase.

Like the above poster stated: we need more info on what your preferences are. However based on what you said, a 3000 would probably be your best bet, especially If youre new to handhelds and all. Also it will give you a chance to buy a game and take it back if you dont like it.

I love my go and I think that you wouldnt like a go IMO

Do you want less games available?
Do you want a smaller screen?
Do you want less ergonomic controls?

If you answer yes to all of those then a Go is what you're looking for

On the other hand if you want a larger screen, every single game available to you, and the ability for a more comfortable experience playing games then grab a 3000

I own a 3000 and buy all my games digitally, just because it can play UMD's doesn't mean you have to

A 3000 would be the more versatile option.

The PSP Go may seem more convenient at first glance- since it's more portable and you don't have to carry your UMDs around as well.

But it's download-only format has already potentially guaranteed that several titles, including some big ones (Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is an example of a big game that has a good chance of NOT being downloadable at all- thus making it impossible for Go users to play) won't be available for play on the system.

Also- with many games, you wouldn't be able to get them until well after the game's UMD release date. (Final Fantasy: Dissidia took it's sweet time getting to the PSN for example).

The 3000 guarantees the fact that you'll have access to the entire PSP library- and you can still use downloadable content if you get a memory stick. (There are apparently some that equal the PSP Go's storage space)

Get the 3000, it's cheaper, the games are cheaper, it has more games for it. PSP Go is just a bad idea

I would use the coupon for the PSP Go.

I have a PSP 1000 (which I will sell soon) and a new PSP Go. I hate the original PSP. The controls suck, I could never play the system for longer than a half hour without my thumbs cramping. With the Go this is not a problem. Much better control lay-out.

Right now the downloads can be more expensive than UMDs (for example Hot shots golf 2 is 10 bucks more on the PSN) but this can not last. Sony knows we are not stupid and it's only a matter of time until the price of games come down to either equal or below retail value. In reality it should cost less since there is no cost to develop the UMDs or to ship them to the stores but I would be happy with prices being even in-store and online.

A lot of people complain about the price of the Go compared to the 3000 but if you were to buy a 16 GB memory card so that your PSP 3000 had equal storage to the Go then you would likely be spending more than if you just got the Go originally.

Overall it is just a better system.

Spurious logic at best when considering a multi-national corporation and their potential for greed. Once you have a person on your hook, why let up on the bleeding? It makes no sense. That would be like a cigarette company figuring that after 20 years of buying smokes, they should just give them to you... they have ADDICTS on an I.V. drip called the Go. I'm not saying that the system sucks, I'm saying that the execs have figured a way to dip directly into the consumer's pocket without danger of re-sales or piracy cutting their profit margin.

They'll keep it up WELL past the point you think they should or will. It's simple economics combined with the human desire to suck the living dry in a quest for power and world domination.

And also:

Used PSP 3000 at gamestop = $129

16G card from various online stores = approx. $60

You would NOT be paying more to buy a 3000 and upgrading the memory card than you would buying the Go. Sorry.

Never mentioned a used PSP. My assumption here is the TC is getting a new PSP. So $199 + $60 is more than the $249 Go, which is what I was getting at. I understand that Sony is notorious for their greed and over pricing but I do think if they want the Go to be successful they will have to match the price of UMD games. The problem is not with all games, just a select number. New games like AC, LBP, and GT are the same price on UMD as they are to download and I don't think we will see any games come out from here on that are more expensive on PSN than in store. All that is needed is for the price of old games to drop. I really want Hot Shots Golf 2 on my PSP but no way I pay more than I would for it on UMD and if enough people share that attitude Sony will have to match prices or they won't sell anything.

Core 3000 systems are only $169 brand-new in the box, $199.00 assumes a bundle, and assuming gets you the age-old proverb of "Assuming makes an *** out of U and Me".

A 3000 is going to be cheaper every time.

And again, hoping that Sony is going to cut any deals or be interested in doing you (the consumer) any favors assumes that Sony has been more than happy with all of the piracy and other crap surrounding their money-seive of a gaming platform... they've been losing money on the PSP since it's inception. Now with the Go, it's time to make some of that loss back. Having consumers buy a piece of hardware which makes them DEPENDANT on the parent company means they have virtual slaves to crank out the money... junkies enraptured by the high. An opium den for PSP players. And once they have you laid out on that bed, they'll keep the dope coming to keep you on the hook.

I'm not badgering you with this or trying to beat it into you. Either you get it or you don't... but Sony isn't going to let up on any choke hold they get. It's just not going to happen. Look at sales figures for any recent UMD game, look at the amount of piracy you can find of those titles out there on the Net (I'm not PROMOTING IT, I'm just pointing it out for the sake of this discussion), look at the reports of 'Dismal sales' etc etc right here on GameSpot, and tell me that Sony is happy with how things have gone up to this point in the system's life?

They've got a heap of makin' up to do as far as turning the system profitable after so many years of leaking cash into the stratosphere.

You've got it pretty spot on. The way to make a company change their practices is to not buy their product. You don't keep buying and hope that one year down the line they finally throw you a bone. The moment you start forking over your money for a service that you're not happy with, the company has the green light to keep doing what they're doing, and will suck you dry.

2 different prices on 2 different hardware that play the same games. It's your call but the 3000 is the most sensible in terms of price. The Go is more portable and looks better IMO but you won't be seeing significant feature differences besides bluetooth and game pausing, among other things.

Well-Put!

And it cracks me up that the "Game Pausing" gets any creedance as a feature... the older models can game-pause, it's called hitting the 'Start' button and soft-powering the unit down. What's the big deal? A little tiny splat battery power? C'mon...

... and the Bluetooth. Yeah. Bluetooth. For what, piggie-backing my PSP on my never purchasing it, don't-own-one PS3? Or the HEADSET... cool, so now I can HEAR people cursing, using racial epithets, and other garbage you'd just-as-soon forget a human being is capable of communicating while they cheat?

No thanks.

Well I use the "game pausing" and bluetooth very heavily everyday and think that its a great option for someone of my life**** Im on campus all day and like to play my games in between ****and up to the professor calls attendance. After attendance I put the pause on my game because as soon as I leave ****im going to be playing music to my next **** Otherwise I would have to stop or play only until I reach a save. Meanwhile I use the bluetooth to listen to music with the same quality as wire headphones but I have more freedom of movement, which is especially useful for when Im at work (i work in a projection booth at my local theater and the last thing i need is the wire to get caught in the projector). I know that some people would never use the psp go's game pause feature or the bluetooth, however those like me who do, think of those features as a vital asset. The iphone/ipod touch have these capablities so why shouldnt the psp?

Dmann, the first rule of ealry adoption and Go Ownership is not feeling defensive about every little thing anyone says. Breathe.
