I took my ps3 to my friend's house to play it with a bunch of friends, he has a high def TV and an HDMI cable, I do not, I play my ps3 on a standard definition TV. When I hooked my ps3 back up to my TV I realized that it was not going to automatically detect the standard definition TV. So... If anyone could help me out here, I just need to know how to get it back to standard def output. Maybe what buttons to push to go through the menu? Or maybe there's anotherway, Idunno. I mean, I just got Assassin's Creed. I need to be playing that right now.

Anyways, any help would be much appreciated! :D

Have it hooked up and on standby (red light on the front) and hold power until you hear a second beep

Just have the HDMI connected and the TV on and the PS3 in standby (red light only on the front). Then hold the power button until the second beep. This will put the PS3 in auto-detect mode for video (you may have to change the audio inputs from the XMB). Now when you take your system back home and connect it back to your SDTV this will work to make it work on your TV.

When you hook it up to a HD TV, you go to display setting and change it to HDMI and the sound settings but when you put it back on to a SD TV you have to change the settings back to AV Multi Out for Display before you switch the TV. Sound can be changed when to get your display back.

so its

HDTV - HD Output to HDTV - SD Output then SDTV - SD Output

I found out by trial and error at first. Then just for the sake of making sure this worked every time I tried swapping the outputs on the PS3 as fast as I could one day, I didn't even bother to disconnect the cables all I did was change the input of the TV before changing the output from the PS3 and it worked every time.

The only thing is when the AV is selected you have to change the settings from composite to component if you have the component cables connected.
