I own a first gen PS3. I just picked up Yakuza 2 and Persona 4. Bot are supposed to have good graphics, however when i play i am constantrly thinking the games look worse then they are supposed to. I have my PS3 hooked up via HDMI and I have a 1080P LCD Tv. Is this possible or have I just grown accustomed to PS3 graphices looking amazing?

Do you have the ps smooting thing on? IF not turn it on it should it to look better on the hdtv.... but i also heard that ps3 does actually makes ps2 games look worse for some reason.... and that is one of the reason BC was taken away

 its a PS2 game... of course its not gonna looks as nice blown up on a 1080p TV... having said that though i think Persona 4 looks fine... Yakuza is really showing its age though..

Thanks gusy for the feedback. I get Persona 4 in the mail today from Amazon, so will see how that looks. I may need to get an old PS3. I turned on the smoothing thing and it helps a little, it just appears that my screen is blurry. But Yakuza 2 is really showing its age, considering that it only came out in the Fall here, its been out in Japan for awhile.

first time i Hooked up my PS2 with component cables to my 52" TV .. I thought the same thing .. this looks awful. but thats just because PS2 games can't support that high resolution so everything is stretched out so you get to see all the horrible aliasing the ps2 games have. A good example is when I play FF7 which i know is PS1 but... it looks pretty bad and aliasing (jaggies) on my big TV but when I remote play on the PSP it actually looks really good... because the PSP screen is much smaller so you can't see all the aliasing because its playing at the proper resoltion. if you want your PS2 games to look good chances are you will have to play them on a small TV and possibly with the cheaper hookups so the picture is not as sharp .. it will be slightly more blurry but give it a smoother look.

Thats why i still held on to my tube tv, older games and non hd tv, look much better on it, than they do on my new hd tv. Try going into your ps3 settings, go to display, and uncheck all the other resolutions execpt 420 , when you play ps2 games on the ps3.
