Hey guys, I've been looking at PS3's on eBay because I'm fairly poor at the moment.... lol

Several of them say "YLOD" and I assume this is similar to the Xbox's "RROD"? Is this easy to get repaired?

Others say it had "YLOD" and is not working but they "can not say for how long"... Is this because they break regularly after one time?

Cheers for the help guys :)

If you find a "YLOD" unit dirt cheap -- say around 20-40 bucks-- you could pay Sony 150 dollars to get it fixed, refurbished, and in full working condition with a six month warranty. Doing so you might save around 100 bucks or more instead of just buying a new PS3.

Is it worth it? Your call.

I found my PS3 on Craigslist. It was an old man who bought it for his grandkid and the kid wanted a 360 so I an 80GB fully backwards compatible system for $100 new in the box. Just keep looking and maybe you'll get really lucky like I did.

I'm going to go with the majority here, buy a Slim, it'll be more reliable. Even with the PS3's that have had the YLOD and have been fixed, they will possible break again at some point.

I bougth a slim for 40 bucks. Kid thought it was broken, all that was wrong is the hard drive got knocked loose. But to get back on topic. The yellow light of death is pretty complicated to fix. You can find videos on how to fix it. Personally im probably gonna buy one thats b/c. Its worth it in my mind.

They don't regularly break, but if they do, you can fix it, so you can buy it and then fix it manually through a Youtube tutorial, but it involves taking it apart and messing with a lot of stuff.

I use to be a slim hater untill I actually got one, they are pretty sound and rarely die. You should save up and buy one. Nothing's like opening up a nice shiney new video game system. And you get to keep the stellar box, If your into that kinda stuff haha.

That's very very rare(not impossible)but rare... I've heard to many stories of people intentionally selling broken PS3's so they can make a fast buck. Now of course this is just an opinoin "BUT" you must agree that it's not to far from the truth.:)

Agreed, if the TC does decide to get it used, at least get it from a store/person who can be accountable for any problems.

YLOD is as far as I know much less of a problem then the 360's RROD. I wouldn't be too concerned about, just treat your PS3 well and it should last. Just make sure you get the new Slim.

People these days want gaming Consoles for free or almost free. What piss me off is that wile many keep crying about the price they don't mind getting an expensive and overpriced Ipod, Ipod touch or a Netbook. Come on a console that lets you play games browse the Web and watch movies. Many people don't learn what i have, if you want something and doesn't have enough money, a Work or other responsibilities then start saving some money apart each time someone gave you or pay you for homw work or anything you do to earn it. After some time you will be surprise you have the money you need.

It definitely wouldn't hurt to still keep an eye on ebay and craigslist or w/e while you save up.

sometimes i wonder if people talking and getting paranoid of the so called yellow light are new to the gaming world. The light is an indicator that indicates an internal component of the console is not working, it can be anything. Every console since the original Plastation have an indicator like this; the GameCube instead of a light had a on screen message to indicate an inside component isn't working.
